  1. They are horrid. I'm with you.

And if I have to listen to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra one more time....my kids' current favorite, I may slam my head in a door.

Give me Christmas Pops on XM Radio anytime.

    Or even Johnny Cash Christmas.

My dd decided she wanted to learn their Canon in D Christmas Song this year. :banghead: I get to listen to it 4 times each day. :banghead: Or at least the first half. :banghead: Each and Every Day. :banghead:

I actually like them the first few days of the Christmas Season, but they get WAY OVERPLAYED on the radio and Christmas stations, so by 12/5, 12/10 at the latest, I hate them. And well, with DD playing their music and the early Thanksgiving, I didn't even make it to December 1st!

  2. There are some great ideas here! I would LOVE a vacation with no children. If DH has to stay home with them, oh well. I have finally come up with a few ideas. I would LOVE a food dehydrator, an anti-fatigue mat for the kitchen. I spend so much time in there! And I THINK I'm getting a blendtec. I also put one of those new home laser hair removal things on my list, as well as the fitbit. My birthday is in January, so hopefully, he'll keep the list handy.

As a reward for having ALL of the shopping done (except for a polar bear rug :confused1: for my sensory daughter) I bought a cricut that I found for less than half price. I probably should wrap it and put it under the tree, but I really want to use it over the next couple of weeks.

  3. Dh and I are thinking about going with the girls sometime in February. Anybody ever been to one of these? The deal he's found includes food, but we were wondering if there were other activities outside of the resort that might be good? Or what the resort might have that would be fun. We will be researching it, but was wondering if anyone has BTDT, and if it was any good.

    TIA!

    Cindy

  4. Depending on how rotund you are, many stores have a plus size dept. that goes up to a 24 or 26. I like the jeans from Walmart, Just My Size, I think they are. Kohls, Penny's, Dillard's, Macy's...they all have a plus size dept. Lands End also sells plus sizes.

Fashion Bug was my favorite place too. Lane Bryant is OK, but I cannot find a pair of jeans there to fit me. They are all LONG and they don't fit snug around the waist at all. They are a size or two too big in the waist. UGH

  5. Cajun Rose, meniscus or ACL? Either one, this is NOT a good time of year to be down. Well, after Christmas isn't too bad, and it definitely beats walking around with your knee all wrapped/bandaged/casted in the summer heat.

I read the goat story and it hit me just right. I started laughing hysterically. My question is: Does she have goats? Or was it a random, wandering goat. DH says, I assume she owns goats? that would be a surprise if she doesn't even have one!??

  6. Turn her loose on me. My oldest has ADD and mild Asperger's. Yes, she has all her shots. She was horribly abused her first year, do you think MAYBE the abuse & 8 broken bones had any effect on her???? My youngest, who is also up to date on all her shots, is JUST FINE. They both came home at about 12 mos old. Oh, and doe they also call sensory integration issues, because she has that too. And really, is ADD worse than dying from some of those diseases? At least my children are still with me

OK, so I wouldn't really say any of that stuff, but I would think it. And I'd try maintain a polite demeanor while passing the bean dip.

  7. I was also diagnosed with pneumonia 2 weeks ago. I went for my follow up appt yesterday, after finishing my round of antibiotics and was complaining that I'm still coughing. THe dr. said it would take a good 2-4 weeks before I'm completely 100% and he gave me a prescription for Robitussin with codeine to help with the coughing when I go to bed at night.

    :iagree:

I had to take a Dr. note to the church nursery when DD was diagnosed and 'over' pneumonia. She had gone through her antibiotics, but was still coughing. She was no longer contagious, but he told me that she would have a cough for another month.

  8. I see that you said your daughter. Are you looking for helps with the adHd, or the ADD? If it is the latter, the truly attention deficit without the hyperactivity, you might also look at some executive skills dysfunction work. They focus more on disorganization and short term memory, and sort of go hand-in-hand with ADD. Also, check out work by Russell Barkley. I saw him speak last year and he is incredibly knowledgeable about the subject.

We are starting down this road. We've been diagnosed with ESD but are starting meds, probably today, for ADD. My daughter has become the ULTIMATE airhead. Math that she declares done is MAYBE 50% complete. Problems get skipped, half done, Oh look, a butterfly!

We do a LOT of work orally, because the talking keeps her on task. So far, that's the only actual tidbit for schoolwork that I can help you with. If you figure out how to get them to clean their room (and I'm talking to a level acceptable by the board of health, not necessarily to my standards) please let me know!

  9. I know I have girls, but when my girls are sick, I try to get them a set of 'special' colored markers. You can get the standard box of crayola markers, but when they are sick I either pick up a set of fine point markers, different colored ones, or something unique. In this situation, I would probably buy the biggest box of crayons or a huge set of markers, so there would be lots of colors.

Legos and matchbox cars would be pretty cool. Maybe some 'theme' legos, depending on his age and interests.

  10. As far as a braid or french braid goes, with fine hair, I braid while the hair is wet, and then spray it down really well.

Fine hair is a pain. My girls are both Asian, and they both have the fine hair, not the textured. And the younger one has TONS of it. And, they both want it long. I got their hair trimmed up one time and the lady at the salon pulled DD hair back with a bobby pin, that wouldn't stay. She then did a criss-cross with 3 bobby pins and it finally stayed in place. But it was 3 pins on top of each other. Even the no-slip bobby pins don't stay. :glare:

Now that their hair is longer, the no-slip pony tail things stay. I think they are by Goody and we have found some at Target and Walmart.

  11. I can certainly understand the older guy's views on watching the game. What fun is it if you know the outcome? And even if they win, we know the outcome. It's just as if they didn't play.

And I can understand his being upset at one of his lifelong heroes being thrown to the dogs. (I am in no way stating any opinion here.) We all have people we admire, and if they get into trouble, we tend to take their side of it. That does not mean we think that which they have been accused is or is not right. For example, I admire Lance Armstrong for his hard work and his fight and drive. And I think he got railroaded. BUT, that does not mean I will go take steroids to enhance my performance (besides, I don't think they would really help me with housekeeping or homeschooling ;) ). Just an example.

The moms who were drawn into the discussion with the older guy might just have been making vague comments to avoid a fight.

Think about your dad. PRIME example. Your dad thinks Paterno was wronged. Will you leave your kids with your dad? And do you get into a knock down drag out with your dad, or do you respond somewhat vaguely, in order to keep peace?

These are just my thoughts based on the original post. They do not, in any way reflect my thoughts on the Penn State mess. Just on the post and the conversation about which she is asking.

  12. I always forget how much rabbits freak me out. I think they're quite beautiful, just as I do lions and wolves. But I don't want to see any of them in my yard. I forget this until I encounter a bunny in my garden and I immediately realize he wants me dead. Yes, he does. I can see it in his eyes.

Oh, it's just a harmless little *bunny*, isn't it?

You've watched that Monty Python skit about the Killer Bunnies once too often!
