  1. I have just skimmed the responses, so if I am repeating, please forgive me. I do not spend time alone with any men, except my physician. Even my OBGYN has a nurse in the room during the exam. I know the verse in 1 Thessalonians is up for debate, but to me, avoiding all appearances of evil keeps me from falling into any traps of evil. That's my personal thoughts. Other thoughts....Being alone with another mancan cause speculation and if the other person is at all unscrupulous, it could turn into a 'he said she said' situation. So in that sense, you are protecting yourself. Now from a deeply personal experience. My dh carpooled with a girl that he worked with. I also knew her, and we were arranging some playdates. DH told me that her marriage was troubled. He was trying to advise and support her. A week later, he told me that some OTHER things were also happening, in the stairwell, at work. Was he planning on cheating on me? Nope. Was he flirting with her? Nope Were they discussing personal issues? Yup, and that creates intimacy that should NOT be there. So, there are my thoughts on this whole issue. Don't put yourself in a situation that could lead to problems. Don't play with fire.
  2. I think it was good that you went. My mother-in-law is a fuddy dud. Doesn't like to do new things, learn about new things and all that stuff. It does cause problems. She also SAYS she doesnt' eat sugar, and won't eat any of my desserts, but I do wonder who eats the m&m's & cookies she has in her cupbaords. Relationships are about give and take. You've given and taken for years from your immediate family, now that it's growing you're going to have to grow with it. If your DIL is anything like me, she probably thought it was a GREAT present and would have been hurt that you didn't want to do it. The relationship between MIL & DIL can be very fragile, and your son is in the middle. If it ain't immoral or painful, give a little. You want to stay on her good side ;).
  3. pale and sweaty and fainting, that could also indicate low blood sugar. Shakiness Dizziness Sweating Hunger Headache Pale skin color Difficulty paying attention Clumsiness Sudden moodiness or confusion Tingling sensations around the mouth Loss of consciousness My mom was a brittle diabetic and she never passed out, but she got clumsy, confused and MEAN. (moreso than usual :p) Hugs and Prayers,
  4. I have a husqvarna, and I do love it! Janome is a good brand too, that is what my regular machine is. After dh got it threaded I whipped up skirts. I'm now onto pinning the waistband and hems. I sew everything with white thread, and just thread it when it is ABSOLUTELY necessary. I think my 3 yr old unthreaded it, my 6 yo knows to NOT touch mommy's machine.
  5. And after 25 minutes, DH is now trying to get it re-threaded. So DH spends about 5 minutes working it and has it threaded. Something that costs so much should be a little easier to use, right????? rant over.
  6. Our washer has a sterilize mode, so we put rough, like colors in that load. Most of our towels are white so that will get bathroom and kitchen towels, socks and white jeans and sweatshirts. Anything that can take hot water and bleach.
  7. If you're like me, you want the same books that everyone other homeschool mom wants, so the price keeps going up and up and up. I try to not spend more than 50% of the list price. If I really want it, I'll look around and buy it at the cheapest place. That includes ebay, even if it is only a couple of bucks cheaper. My goal is to save money.
  8. We are slowly transitioning to no land-line, so I use my cell phone for everything. Of course, I've lost 2 earpieces so far.. I think my daughter throws them away. DH and I both have 1,000 minutes a month, and it's free for us to call each other. On our cells we have all the extras: caller ID, messaging, missed calls and all that stuff that we have to pay extra for on the land line, plus, of course, we are always available  so it must be better, right?
  9. Honestly, I think you have 3 really attractive kids. NOBODY likes how they look at 13 :D She is going to grow into a beautiful woman. And she's looking pretty good now, at 13. Some kids go through a real awkward stage, doesn't look like she's going to. I think that picture is great!!
  10. Target. They have some decent 'toys' (including Kapla blocks!) cute clothes, nice housewares....It's my favorite store :D
  11. I would flat out kill myself if I wore pointy shoes and pointy heels. I really need heelies to keep up with my 3 yr old. I literally have a wheeled chair between the desk of my 2 girls. Right...a pencil skirt and high heels while wheeling around in our classroom in teh basement.
  12. I don't mind looking decent, but I would never pay those prices, and probably wouldn't buy those particular clothes. I do not like high maintenance clothing, and alot of those pics looked like they need ironed, at least, some even drycleaned. For me, a nice day is CLEAN jeans that fit decent and a CLEAN sweater, and shoes or loafers. Honestly, that is dressed for me. Before kids, i would spend my off days in my jammies. Even now, I have days when I'm in flannels and a sweatshirt, sans underwear. I do have a pair of khakis that I can wear with my sweaters, and I feel fine. In summer, I wear polos (which I wear under my sweaters at times!) and denim, khaki or white shorts. Make-up--NEVER I hate the way my face feels when I have it on, plus I'm a heavy sweat-er, so it gets yucky, and I have severe allergies which makes my eyes itchy and watery. Nails, use to and would still like to. I'm not quite a denim jumper mom, but I guess I'm pretty close :)
  13. Remember their wedding???? My college classes had a marked number of female students missing that day :)
  14. I take one degree away with a rectal temp and add one degree with an axillary temp (armpit). I always thought the oral was the number it was based on...
  15. The humidity in Vietnam definitely worked in our favor for this picture.... http://www.cin131.blogspot.com/
  16. NO!!!!!! It is invasive, impossible to kill and it is spikey on your feet.
  17. One good thing...medical insurance usually covers Ophthalmologists :D
  18. And for that reason, I've also toyed with just teaching Latin Vocabulary. I'm already teaching English Grammar, so Teaching Latin Vocabulary might be all I really need. It would give them the vocabulary roots to help with word deciphering and any other romance languages they may wnat to learn down the road. Greek, for religious reasons and Mandarin for Heritage Reasons (and career opportunities, maybe).
  19. I am debating too. I just got samples from LFC and they have a great Greek and Latin program for K-2(ish) Song Song Greek and Sing Song Latin (spring 08). I'm trying to decide if I could teach dd both. I think she'd do great with them, but I also want to teach them Chinese, (Mandarin). I'll do that with Rosetta Stone. Just not sure if Greek and Latin at hte same ttime would screw up their brain like it would mine:D
  20. FUnny thing about this thread....I was just at their website trying to figure out which one I wanted for dd6 next year. I think I'm goign to do sing-song latin. It looks great. I got some samples from TOS and it looks great. Primer A has too much grammar for her right now. (I'M going to have to brush up on that, myself...I do not remember conjugating a verb at all!)
  21. OH yeah.....I rinse it off as I rinse my hair and give it a good scrubbing with my towel as I dry off. :D
  22. I used (and really liked!) KUSHIES. I put a plastic bag in the diaper bag and a couple of extra diapers, and changed her RIGHT before church :) They are pretty simple. I bought them on ebay for relatively decent prices. I had to quit using them when I had foot sugery (quickly followed by wrist surgery). I was literally off my feet with help for 3 mos. I iddn't mind the extra laundry, but we didn't feel it was right to ask our friend to do that too.
  23. One of them has just come to Cincinnati. I'm anxious to go and I think we're going to take our 6.5 yr old. She gets easily freaked and has nightmares, but I think if we look at some books and talk about it for a couple of weeks beforehand, she will not see a monster, so to speak, but see the actual parts of the body. I REALLY hope she can handle it. If not, I'll send DH out with her so *I* can enjoy it :D
  24. I don't have it in me to create my own. The most that I do is get library books out of our library that correlate to our current science and history topics. I spend about 2 hours every weekend reviewing the previous weeks work and writing out what we are doing the next week. I look ahead in science and history to order library books. I do NOT follow my own plans. I need something written in stone, so to speak. Math--do the next page. Science, do the next chapter. Otherwise, it doesn't get done. I barely get our daily oral reading done.
  25. Ditto for me, but it was about 16 years ago. Another cousin had a girl and they knew it was a girl because, as it was put, she flashed the US tech. It looked like she was sitting on the copy machine. Her bottom was plastered against mom's belly. There was NO doubt to anyone that she was a she. Fortunately, she is alot more modest now :D
