  1. My DS 12 has been using Membean for the past year and a half for his outside vocabulary program. It is online and we love their multi-sensory approach to vocabulary. He uses it about 15 minutes/day 3x per week. It is self-paced based on their success with the program. They start based on the level that they test into. He's been introduced to almost 1,000 words in the past 18 or so months. They have robust reporting as well. I got it as part of a group buy. It's been money well spent. Kelly
  2. My son (7) recently started the EPGY math and language arts classes. I set him to the start of 2nd grade to make sure that we didn't have any "gaps" in what he has learned so far. He was doing an exercise in which he was supposed to identify the verb in a sentence. Instead, he looked over at me and said "You see that word buzz? That's an example of onomatopoeia." I nearly fell out of my seat. He had seen the concept in an unrelated video that I hadn't watched.
  3. We've used HWT and one of the things that has really helped is that we use the ABC Teach website for copy work. They have a "tools" section in their member's area that allows you to make custom sheets in the HWT font (many variations such as arrows, rules, outlines, etc). DS (6) and I decide together what we want to write about his day and then he copies the sentences that I had printed out onto HWT lined paper. He then uses those sentences to jumpstart a conversation with his Dad about his day. This has been a great way for us to have him be more willing to write since he has a vested interest in the content of the sentences. He also has a nice stretch of quality conversation with his Dad each night.
  4. We love Dreambox Learning. It's a paid site, but you can do a free trial. My son has made huge strides in Math since we started using it a couple of months ago.
