  1. is there a system/software that can be viewed online AND downloaded/edited on the main computer, and available on an android phone? we have several thousand books. best recommendation? I've seen a lot of different ones while googling!
  2. I have a ton of books in my home and limited shelf space and limited time. The B bears don't make the cut. besides the unacceptable family dynamics, "The Nerdy Nephew" being taught to dumb himself down as a homeschooler really ticked me off.
  3. well, knowing the family, I doubt that them attending an appointment with him would help much in the accurate knowledge department...... but I appreciate the brainstorming and possibles offered. :)
  4. haven't heard anything about calcium, but from what is being related, they are saying his condition isn't curable [nothing about any possible surgery, just a need to *keep* his BP abnormally high.....rest/ lowering the heart rate is said to be BAD. ?!?]. How long can one go w/ super high blood pressure like this? no bloody noses or strokes. and for the record, i haven't been around him to actually take his blood pressure myself..... ;)
  5. an out of town family member is saying that they have a relative w/ very high blood pressure [200+/ 180] but that they have to keep his blood pressure from dropping otherwise he could die. I can't find ANY medical sites corroborating this type of situation, especially for someone who is still out and about working and being active. Not overweight either. Supposedly they found out about this back in April or so, and gave him 10 years to live. can you tell I'm skeptical here? does anyone have any insight/links on this? every search I've looked into shows bad things at BP that high, especially as an all-day/ every-day type of condition over several months/ years.... ??? TIA.....
  6. well, maybe not to YOU or ME, but I wasn't comparing the works side by side: i was comparing the danger alleged by those against it. lvia a quick google search, it looks like quite a few have done exactly that. Kinda like people compartmentalizing what parts of the Bible they wanna hold to. ;) and like I said, many have the same issues w/ other forms of gvt as well. I'm glad people CAN judge for themselves.
  7. very true. Much has been alleged about the "danger" of Harry Potter and the Golden Compass... especially if you read ALL the books. Not to mention, as with most philosophical ideas, most don't subscribe to a pure/ intended form, but pick and choose what appeals to each person and apply it in different ways. Many would say that most who are "enjoying the freedom" of socialistic countries just don't grasp the core values and deeper problems of that sort of society. ;)
  8. Too little info. I'm voting 'other.' :tongue_smilie: If he is normally a fairly happy, compliant child I'd side w/ Danestress. Especially if it's a BIG deal that involves plane$. ;) If he's normally an ungrateful brat then I'd be late for the trip...and not say anything until you're just ....late. Especially if it's such a big deal that it involves plane$. :D Another option: stick to your guns this weekend, and pursue a different option next weekend. Unless this is one of those once-in-a-lifetime type of things.....
  9. :iagree: I prefer to give as much grace to punctuality issues as possible. If it's not a matter of life and death, then I'm not going to consider someone being late as 'rude.' life's too short. I do think that if someone has money/time invested in the arrival time, then the consequences of it costing you for being late are simply a matter of fact. If I have a student show up 15 minutes late for a 30-minute lesson, they still have to pay for the 30 minutes even tho they only receive 15 minutes of instruction. But I'm not going to get offended at it. Likewise, if I as a customer have invested time/money in arriving in a punctual manner [babysitters/ whatnot] then I expect some sort of monetary [or other] compensation if the agreed upon plans are upset. I agree that homeschool fieldtrips I *only* schedule as a group if I am getting money UPFRONT.
  10. :iagree: Good reasons given above about that. "God" isn't HIS name. The commandment isn't 'Thou Shalt Not Express Thyself Mightily' -- I actually see the replacements/variations for such expressions as KEEPING the commandment by NOT using His NAME and instead using some other innocuous word. I do think the 'useless word' argument is much more compelling than any breaking-commandment argument. and fwiw, I really appreciate the people who DO work on Sundays [especially when I had to find a chiropractor on a SUNDAY], and believe there's more than one way to Keep the Sabbath Holy. Even Christ remarked about the importance of being available to HELP those in need, and hey-- the Sabbath is technically Saturday, right? So then you get into "which Sabbath"? I like James' take on True Religion. ;)
  11. wasn't there someone who made shelves out of books? eta: found it! http://dornob.com/recycled-books-turned-into-creative-bookcase-designs/
  12. :iagree: The tie dye shirts really would be a neat touch, and I think a funny tag line in Latin on back would be awesome..... include a pic of brownies in the logo. ;) [[off to search for history on some of the other board-isms i've seen in this thread, lol....]]
