  1. Have you checked out the book basket list in the back of your TM? I am switching from SL to MFW K & ECC, and will not be feeling the need anymore to supplement, there are SO many titles in the BB! Just my .02. I mean I always try to pick up SL books at Half Price Books, but I no longer feel like I HAVE to!
  2. I am 99% sure there is a super duper easy way to do this, and since I haven't been able to locate it on my own, I'm going to save my brain cells and ask here. Is there a way for me to get an email or PM when someone responds to a post I have made in a thread so I don't have to keep scrolling through all the threads to see if someone has replied/responded? Thanks.
  3. Hi. I already have my SM for my kiddos and have switched from US to Standards Edition. I was just curious, if I COULD get my hands on them used, are they the US or Standards Edition? How are they that helpful? Just wondering what all is in the lesson plans? Does it just lay the days out for you, or is it like the HIGs? Thanks in advance!
  4. Praying for his safety, safe return, and for the peace that passes all understanding to be with him and his family.
  5. Yes ma'am, Heartland, TX. East of DFW. Can't wait to meet you "officially" beyond the FB Kaufman board :-).
  6. I have a current 3rd grader and a daughter who is 5. She will be 6 in October. We have been working on kinder stuff and figured we would just keep going through next year. She is not reading yet. Here is my question. I have used SL for 2 years with my son. Love all the reading, yet am wanting a change in focus. I was assuming that I would use MFW K with her and ECC with him next year. But after reading some other posts, I am wondering if I could or should do MFW K with her and Adventures with them (her tagging along) instead? Just wanting to do this correctly, and would greatly appreciate your input, thanks. He is a voracious, above average reader and I want to continue to encourage that :-). I am thinking I will keep piecing together my own books from SL lists, and having them available to read even if we don't follow their program. We have a very small town library here, so not lots of options. I am just wondering if there is a way to keep them closer together for later, or if they will just always be separate b/c of the age difference. I don't want to hold DS 9 back, but don't want him to miss out on anything either? Adventures looks great!? Thanks in advance for your guidance!
  7. HM...all interesting comments. DS just turned 9 is in 3rd grade. Did not find out about WTM, FFL, WWE until last summer. So, bought the CD for FLL 1&2, listened to most of it and bought FFL3 and WWE3. We are doing well with FLL and alright with WWE, although it has really stretched him which is great, however, I see we are not going to finished the book this year, I don't think. Advice needed: do we just keep plugging along and if we don't finish then pick up where we left off in the fall? He is also a on writer although he LOVES to read and he is doing very well on the narrations, but the dictations are bogging him, down, but we press on. Any suggestions? I am starting to think we should have started with WWE1 or 2 and just possibly moved at a faster pace, but I don't think there is value in going backwards? HELP! Also, I have a daughter lightly kindering this year with math and handwriting, etc. DH thought we could just repeat kinder (she's young). I guess that's the great thing about HSing, no rules, so to speak. Thank God I live in Texas! Anyway since we were a few years behind in HSing, when do you begin (personally) FLL & WWE? Thanks!

  9. Have read great things and actually can't wait to use it WITH my lefty this year!
  10. I voted other as we have two on earth and two in heaven :). One day...!
  11. Honestly, in my opinion, it is because while the Bible might be the most widely sold book, I think it is entirely possible it might be the least read. JMO. I also happen to think that when someone says they are a Christian (me included) it would be helpful if someone would ask "What does being a Christian mean to you?" I think a lot is lost in the meaning/translation of the word.
  12. I would definitely tell the parents. Sadly I could see a child who was afraid of getting in trouble saying, or God forbid something terrible happen, saying that your gate was left open vs. them climbing a fence. This establishes a history, and hopefully their parents will communicate to them how unsafe it is, and they will be afraid to do it again. Ooooh, that MUST have been beyond scary for you!
  13. I agree and second this! It taught me HOW!
  14. Congratulations! In July we will also celebrate 13 years. We try to attend a marriage conference every few years usually hosted by Family Life Today. We also try to have a weekly date night, although I have noticed that has been getting more pushed to the side, so I will have to make an extra effort to keep that in the forefront. It is hard work AND ours is mainly good with a few difficulties. Honestly, it is an ever changing thing since we are always changing and growing ourselves. Neither of us have "seen" a marriage that stayed together.
  15. Does anyone know if there is ever a "sale" for the Desk Apprentice? Don't need it yet, but am wondering if I should be waiting? Thanks!
  16. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am in the process of turning a 4th bedroom (unused) into a classroom and enjoyed your pictures. I have been trying to find tall bookcases to put in the room, but am now thinking perhaps that IKEA Expedit might be the best way to go? Looking at some on Craigslist. Out of curiosity, where you do keep the texts (yours or your child's)? It just looks so organized I would LOVE to be organized that way. Also, I see what looks like guttering for the books, but I see they are black? Did you paint them? Are those Ikea baskets? Is there anything you do NOT like about the Expedit? Have never seen it before now. I'd like to just do my "room" right the first time, lol, please forgive the 20 ?s. Thanks.
  17. Thanks for posting about this item. I think I "heard" about a great tool, and this IS it, but could never remember the name of it nor where it was sold, and I had never seen one! AWESOME!
  18. Also, in Genesis 1 He tells us: 26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.†28 God blessed them and said to them...Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground. I definitely see how we are "mankind" and were created to rule over & subdue every living CREATURE on the earth. This leads me to think that we are different, obviously the Bible teaches us that we are uniquely and wonderfully made. Not that I don't love my dog, we're simply unique/different! I do not consider myself an animal, although sometimes I wonder with my housekeeping skills, or lack thereof . I can also understand that science classifies us as animals simply/possibly because of the worldview of origination of the scientific method of classification. To be sure, I am NOT saying that no scientists believe in the God of the Bible. I am simply stating that when creating the classifications the Biblical facts/information were not included in the reasoning for determining the classifications, hence there would be no reason for anyone to see the need to NOT put us in with the animals? The system itself was created by men, right? I hope this makes sense, I'm in a rush!
