  1. 8, Does the book address developing high school courses? Thanks!
  2. If you can download the free E.O. Wilson bio texts (itunes) , there are some good labs that are more like projects.
  3. Thanks for the clarification. I see your point.I have formed friendships here without the Chat Board, but it as I think about it that has come through PMs, a social group, and smaller threads that have some continuity (like an accountability thread) or a smaller forum (like High School or College) that does not move as fast (Logic Stage). Robin, I don't want to derail your thread. I just very much hope that those who do not enjoy the vibe of the Chat Board (and I count myself in that demographic) can still feel like the WTM forums can offer camaraderie.
  4. Do you think this is true if one does not consider the Chat Board in the evaluation? I am genuinely curious, as I think that the Chat Board has a VERY different vibe than the other sub-forums. Robin, I hope you stay - best wishes if you do not.
  5. I have selected my own labs. Some of them came from the M-L lab handbook and some from the Illustrated Guide. But I am most excited about the ones I took from the (free) E.O. Wilson Life on Earth texts that I dowloaded from itunes. I got a few from a Walch book...I can come back with the title. And then I found some miscellaneous ones online. I have gathered more than we will be able to do, but that makes me feel secure LOL.
  6. Do you plan to travel for six months or to begin in six months?
  7. Let me know if you will be in Denmark :) Check out Soul Travelers 3. They have been traveling the world for years with their daughter. But the blog's focus has shifted from traveling to the daughter's music career, and it doesn't interest me much now - go back to the older posts.
  8. So very sorry for your loss, eaglei.
  9. The online access will give you tests, and access to the Teacher's Manual. I confess that I bought a hard copy of the TM as I would not have been able to deal with the online version on a daily basis. I just looked at the access, and I don't see access to the labs. I think you still need the lab manual. But the access site is so "busy" that I may not have found the labs and perhaps they are there. There are tests, and I don't think the tests are in the TM. The Chapter Tests have more depth than the Unit Tests. There are some STEM worksheets - I don't think these are in the TM. The whole system is convoluted.
  10. You only need Lab Manual A or B, not both. Lab Manual A is on-level, Lab Manual B is (I think) for those students who read below grade level. You should be able to get the access for no charge if you purchase the text! Did you know that? As for what you get with access, I can look that up for you later today.
  11. I called a week or so ago. You might want to call and make sure you will receive what you think you ordered. We were enrolled for the last two years, and I have found them to be very easy to work with. Luckymama, I am on the fence about ordering the Kolbe plan. I have everything ready to go already except for tests. At this point, I doubt I would like pre-written tests.
  12. I started a similar thread in the spring, and had some encouraging replies: http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/550835-biology-sat-subject-test-wo-ap-success-stories/ My plan is to go through the Baron's test prep book concurrent with the M-L book so we can catch gaps as we go along. Are you going to wait for the new Kolbe course plan? I just called recently, and ETA is August.
  13. Denmark. There are lots of American and British shows - they are shown in English with Danish subtitles. But Denmark produces plenty of its own top-notch shows and films.
  14. We used a chunk of it without the writing assignments in 8th grade. No problem. He could have managed many of the writing assignments, but we had other things needing attention. The literary analysis would be too much for an AVERAGE 5th grader.
  15. The Bible and its Influence does exactly what you want. I can't make a link right now; I hope you can find it with a google search.
  16. What subjects are you looking for? I love Anki, but I make my own decks. Much of the value comes from creating the deck, IMO. That being said, I have made them for my son for music theory and state capitals. I just made one for Algebra. And shared decks abound, so obviously other people find them useful :) Next year, I think I will have DS make his own foreign language deck. I have one, but the words are words that were chosen specifically by ME for ME.
  17. I just recently bought the test packet for $35, and they were in the $70 range in April. Don't give up hope :) ETA : I am seeing them start at $39.99 http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/0716717476/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&condition=used
  18. I recently went through that epic and convoluted journey. I will dig through my records tomorrow to see what I can find out. I have the text ISBN 13: 978 0 13 323574 6 and the copyright page says 2014.
  19. I really hope everything was resolved for your child at the hospital, and all is well. I have parented my share of struggling young people - I try to enjoy smooth waters when I get them. There is much wisdom in your post.
  20. Thanks so much for posting this. I am hoping that DS will be able to take the national exams in Danish, but I am not sure that they are open to minors. This could be an alternative.
  21. Wow. I thought they had started offering regular ebooks that you owned. I usually want ebooks so that we can travel w/o lugging a text. But if you can't dowload it, the format is useless for traveling. Can you print from the viewable text?
  22. The Danish movie Flammen and Citronen is one of my favorites,if you can get it. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0920458/
  23. Any topic, any time period is fine as long as you think that it would be a good book for a high school student. Bonus points if you know of a series :) I am familiar with Penguin Lives, and I have a few of those. DS has always liked biographies. I think he read every one of the Who Is series when he was younger, and then he liked the DK Biography series. But I don't know what to offer for the next level, and so many biographies on internet "Must-Read" lists are so looooong.
