  1. Thank you all. :) What a beautiful quote, justamouse. Thank you. All my other children had just a bit of light, wispy hair, and then this one. Where did all that hair come from?
  2. Laura Emilie was born 29 October at 4:17am, weighing 7lbs 6 oz. :001_wub: Both she and I are healthy and being doted upon by everyone in the family.
  3. I love Caitlin's suggestions. Other ideas: Chew On This Free the Children Philosophy Rocks George's Secret Key to the Universe The Breadwinner (and other books by Deborah Ellis, such as Three Wishes and Children of War) Zlata's Diary Ana's Story When Elephants Fight (and other books by Eric Walters, such as Wave and We All Fall Down Noughts and Crosses Animal Farm Lord of the Flies Not all of these books will be appropriate for all of your children. I'm looking forward to seeing the other recommendations.
  4. We have finally found something that really works well for French. We are thrilled. :D Greek is a ton of work, which is more of a problem for me than her, but we're reading real literature, so we're happy. Same with Latin. Our religion plans have gotten sidetracked, but we're enjoying the rabbit-trail. I think Icelandic is going well, but that's her own thing and I'm not really involved in it. As usual, she's loving history and English. Math and science, well, she's doing them. She mostly likes them, just not nearly as much as her other subjects. Music is going to be the death of me. She's way too big a fish in way too small a pond. She's doing loads of practicing and playing beautifully. She wants to major in music, and I have no doubt she'll be able to, but between now and university the opportunities here are pretty scarce.
  5. Friends don't have to be the same age. Both my teenage DDs have adult friends. In terms of their interests, these adults are my children's peers. Just because they don't fit with the age segregated school system doesn't mean these friendships are weird.
  6. I'd say we average two days per week. All our scheduled activities are on the weekend because they require an eight hour round trip drive. During the week we go for nature walks, library trips, Mass, playdates, grocery shopping, and various other things, all of which vary from week to week.
  7. Usually his first name, sometimes "chéri" or "rock" (translation of his name).
  8. I do that too! It's usually with my books though, because I don't have enough DVDs to make sorting them fun. Yeah, I do find alphabetising fun.:001_smile:
  9. No way. I think it's great for high school, but there are some who think that the content is not even apporpriate for that age group.
  10. I wouldn't say it's a must read, but another "for fun" book is The Declaration.
  11. Me too. I actually was vegan for a while, but missed cheese too much. ;)
  12. :party:Congratulations! Now, if only my baby would hurry up and be born, too.
  13. I use the 3rd edition and love it. I'm not American though, so I don't have a problem with the lack of imperial measurments.
  14. Alcoholism runs in both my and DH's families. Because of that, neither of us drink.
  15. 8th grader: SOTW 2 with tons of supplements Yes, I know that may sound babyish, but the emphasis is on the supplements. We're doing SOTW just because it lays out a path for our studies and my younger children are using it. ETA: 7th grade was the same except with SOTW 1
  16. :grouphug: Two of my children have Anglican/Episcopalian godparents, as well as one Catholic godparent each. :grouphug:
