  1. He is adorable! :grouphug: I'm sorry you had such difficulties. Hoping you're better soon.
  2. So glad for the update! Congratulations, Dawn!:hurray:
  3. I told DD we could do Latin soon, but I don't want to start until I get at least one update. Come on babies! :lurk5:
  4. I'm in northern BC, where winter means permanent snow. I don't know what the weather was doing on what night, though. ;)
  5. I cannot imagine either. Well, I see them doing it, but I would find it exhausting. It helps that their kids are geniuses, but still "Herculean effort" is the perfect term to describe all the lengths they go to for music lessons. Just the daughter moved, but they do know people in Philadelphia. I think they went to a music camp there for several years, but it could have been somewhere else.
  6. I live in a rural area where the nearest decent violin teacher is four hours away. Really good teachers and accompanists, youth orchestras, etc. are an eight hour drive. We go to the city four hours away for music lessons, but DD 15 is really pushing her teacher's limits. She needs a more advanced teacher, but the closest ones are eight hours away, a distance which isn't feasible for us on a regular basis. If DD was recieved a scholarship to a conservatory, I'd probably let her go. I would sob and moan and lament her moving so far from home, but in the end, if she wanted to go, I'd let her. We have good friends who live even farther from musical activites than we do. Their 16yo has just started at Curtis and is loving it. So I guess that's my long winded way of saying, "Yes, I think I'd let DC go".
  7. Singapore, Miquon, Life of Fred, AoPS, and a French math curriculum. So I guess that would be other. ;)
  8. From the Solutions Manual (I only gave the answer unless the full solution seemed necessary) Chapter 2 Challenge Problems: 2.47 -- 27° 2.48 -- 85° 2.49 -- 60° 2.50 -- 30° 2.51 -- Let the triangle be ΔABC, and suppose that ∠A =∠B + ∠C. Then, since the exterior angles of a triangle are equal to the sum of their opposite interior angles, the three exterior angles have measures ∠A + ∠B, ∠B + ∠C = ∠A, and ∠A + ∠C. Adding the first and last of these gives a measure of 2∠A + ∠B + ∠C = ∠A + (∠A + ∠B + ∠C) = ∠A + 180° (since the angles of a triangle add to 180°). Therefore, the sum of the exterior angles with measures ∠A + ∠B and ∠A + ∠C is 180° greater than the third (which we showed has measure ∠A). 2.52 -- 90° 2.53 -- 60° and 20° 2.54 -- Suppose the smallest exterior angle has measure x. Then, the other two exterior angles have measures 2x and 6x. We learned in the text that the sum of the exterior angles of a triangle is 360°. Therefore,we have x + 2x + 6x = 360°, so x = 40°. But this means that one of the exterior angles must be less than 180°. Therefore, the exterior angles cannot be in the ratio 1:2:6. 2.56 -- 360° 2.57 -- 2° HTH
  9. No doubt my sentiments will change in a few months time, but right now I'm thankful for the first snowfall of the season and the beauty it adds to the landscape.
  10. DD 13 will definitely be getting some art supplies. She's be hankering after some nice pastels. She mentioned she's almost finished her diary, so I'll either get her a new one for Christmas or for her birthday in January. She'll get a book of some sort; I'm not sure which one yet. Several months ago, I got some ski poles that I was going to give her for Christmas, but it's supposed to start snowing tonight, so I think I'llgive them to her sooner than that.
  11. The Didache textbooks are excellent, but depending how much time EM wants to spend on this, they might be too indepth; each book is a full year's worth of material. If you're wanting this to be a fairly detailed study, then I would highly recommend them. Would a study Bible work for #1? There's the Ignatius Catholic Study Bible: New Testament as well as many others.
  12. I am thankful for my newborn baby. I am thankful for her little fingers and her wide eyes. I am thankful for the midwives who didn't complain about leaving their Halloween party to come deliver my baby. :D
