At 5, I would be doing mostly play based learning, games and reading books. Take a step back and make learning fun. At that age, my kids didn't even realize they were doing schoolwork because it was all incorporated into our daily life.

Do people REALLY watch that much TV?
Wamommy replied to Jenny in GA's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I like silence. If I feel the need for noise, I turn on music. We no longer own a television, but we do have Netflix which we watch on our computer. My kids have very little screen time. We are very busy without tv. They all love to read, play sports and games. -
? audio stories vs. screen time
Wamommy replied to sbgrace's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Audiobooks encourage the child to visualize and make their own pictures in their mind of what they are hearing. Television gives you the audio and the visual and does not require the brain to work nearly as much as an audiobook. -
I think I'm going to quit keeping up with the news
Wamommy replied to Moxie's topic in General Education Discussion Board
We don't read, watch or follow the news. Too depressing and I do not want my kids hearing about all of the junk in this world. We don't have a television which takes away the temptation. If I hear about something interesting, I search and read on the Internet. -
SUV or minivan for a family of 6?
Wamommy replied to Ann.without.an.e's topic in General Education Discussion Board
We have a Toyota Sienna 8 seated and we fit really well. We have 4 kids similar in age to yours---13, 10, 8 and 4. We do have a rooftop carrier for long trips, but there is lots of storage space. We can flip down 2 of the far back seats if we need more room, and still fit 6 people. It is very functional. -
They are making memories. As long as mine are fairly quiet, I love the time they have at night to chatter, sing quietly, and talk about their days. I think it is unbelievably sweet, bonding time. I can remember drifting off while talking as a child as well.

I love having my husband work from home. He has done it exclusively for the past 6.5 years. My kids were 6, 4 and 1 when he started and they don't remember any other way. I added another baby and it was a bit tricky with a newborn and a demanding 3 year old. Now that my kids are older (youngest is 4), it is much easier. They know that when Daddy is on important calls they need to use very quiet voices. It has been a gift for our kids to have my husband so actively a part of their childhood. He has no commute, rolls out of bed and goes to work, and is able to come out and socialize throughout the day. When he goes into his office and closes his door, the kids know not to disturb him. I would definitely recommend giving it a try.

How often do you and your dh/dw/so go "out"?
Wamommy replied to LauraGB's topic in General Education Discussion Board
When the kids were younger, maybe twice a year. Now that my oldest can babysit, we go out alone probably 2-3 times per month. Sometimes it is dinner, sometimes just a liesurely trip to the store. They love being on their own and get along very well. -
Sex Survey - Why a Problem?
Wamommy replied to goldberry's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I have an almost 13 year old. We have been very open about sexual intercourse over the years, but I have never discussed oral sex with him. I would be surprised if he had ever heard of it and mortified if he heard about it through a survey. -
For your children who share a room ?
Wamommy replied to NCJessieRN's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Our boys, almost 13 and 4, share a room. They started sharing when the littlest was close to 2 (he was in our room prior to that). Our oldest was desperate for a brother and desperate for his brother to move into his room. Our girls, 10 and 8, have always shared a room. I think that is a big part of why my oldest likes his brother in his room. He didn't like being the only one with his own room. -
Do you like Chipotle Restaurant?
Wamommy replied to gingersmom's topic in General Education Discussion Board
We all love Chipotle. So much better than typical fast food on a road trip. I have a Chipotle ap on my phone so I can find them while on the road.
