  1. Limelife has an excellent homeschool planner!
  2. All of my kids in private school have their math homework graded daily. If they score less than a 70%, it comes home for corrections. They use Saxon, so constant review is built in. Their grades are posted online daily, so it is easy for parents to monitor and catch low grades immediately. They also have classes with less than 10 kids, so there is time for individual attention if necessary.
  3. When I broke my pinky toe, I went in for X-rays and it was broken completely away from the foot. It required surgery to place pins to keep it in place to heal correctly. I would certainly go in and see what they can see.
  4. The government plays that game for me. They are going to turn off the heat within the next 2 weeks, then won't turn on the AC until June.
  5. We live on a military base, so of course there is an instruction for when kids can be left home alone, play at the park, ect. Kids 6 and under have to have a parent with them at all times, kids 7-9 can play at the park with parent within visual contact. Once the kids are 10 they can roam the base and go anywhere without supervision. One of the contradictions with the policy is that once the kids are in 1st grade and up they can walk to and from school and activities alone. So my 7 and 8 year old can't wait in the car while I run into the post office, but can walk across base to dance class alone.
  6. My DD is in a similar position...she turned 7 last August and we treated this as her 2nd grade year. My DD has also struggled learning to read and as the year has progressed, it is apparent that she is working on a solid first grade level in language arts and math. Like you, I was worried that holding her back would hurt her self esteem, but when I actually talked to about doing 2nd grade work next year she was really excited. I led the conversation in a positive direction and pointed out the positives for her. She fed off my enthusiasm and is totally fine with being in 2nd grade next year. My DD is really excited to not be considered behind and struggling next year. I figure if she does really take off, it will be easier to advance her more quickly later, than it would be to hold her back later on.
  7. My kids love manga tiles. I have played with mag formers at a children's play area and found them much more difficult to build with. We also have knock off brand magna tiles mixed in with our name brand and can't tell the difference.
  8. My DD who attends K gets 20 minutes after lunch for recess, nothing else during the day. Since school starts so early here, they get out at 1:55 and we stay and play for 1-1.5 hrs after school to make sure she is getting plenty of outside time every day.
  9. My kids have been enjoying the show since the oldest was 5 or so. The littles have watched some, but not enough to gather anything negative. We stick to the first couple of season.
  10. Oh my goodness, yes!!! Here in Japan it is 27.1.20!
  11. It drives me batty when people come to my house to purchase something and they don't have the correct change. If they don't have the correct change and don't want to stop and get change on their way to my house, why do they assume that I"m going to have change lying around??
  12. Here in japan, they do have magnets for the car that tell everyone you are a new driver and to give you some room. If you display them, you will have less fault in an accident since people are supposed to give you more room and be aware you may be unsure.
  13. Oh my goodness, apples here are $4.59/lb right now! I spent $12 on 4 apples last week.
