How long do your 7th graders take?
mamatohaleybug replied to Mommy22alyns's topic in Logic Stage & Middle Grade Challenges
My 7th grade daughter schools for 6 hours a day, including lunch. -
We don't use Sonlight but we religiously steal their book lists. :) We loved the Core D books, especially Johnny Tremain. Lots of great books in that year.

We don't use SL but love the booklists. My DD (12) will be working through many of these during our next school year but I'll share the ones we have already read and mark the ones one or both of us loved. Where the Mountain Meets the Moon* Journey to Jo'burg Call it Courage* The House of Sixty Fathers* The Cat Who Went to Heaven King of the Wind* Around the World in Eighty Days* Li Lun, Lad of Courage* Born in the Year of Courage Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes* Rickshaw Girl* Have fun deciding! -

Following because I'm interested to see what responses you get. -
Wasn't it an amazing conference? President Uchtdorf's talk about grace was stunning, instructive and I'm positive it was meant specifically for me. :) I can't wait to watch it again, read it and study it. Elder Holland's talk was phenomenal, too. And Elder Nelson's about the Sabbath? Fantastic. And then there was the temple announcement. Wow! *tears* There were just so many special moments.

Thanks! I sent the grandmother a list but my DD just turned 12 and isn't into those genres/topics. I'll pass your suggestions on. Thank you both! -

Nobody has ideas I can pass on? Pretty please??! -
I have a friend who has requested my help, which means, I, in turn, need yours. :) Her granddaughter is a young teen and is blind. She is looking for recommendations for good books to listen to. They have access to good libraries. Specific requests: humorous or first love or musical Ideas? Hit me up, please!

NC or SC Beach Trip W/O Kids-Where to go?
mamatohaleybug replied to JumpyTheFrog's topic in The Chat Board
Charleston, SC!! -
Really great sessions but Elder Holland knocked it out of the park, yet again. Amazing! Elder Wong's talk in Cantonese was just so amazing to me. What a moving explanation of how we might rescue those in need.

What is the best "fashion" advice you've received?
mamatohaleybug replied to unsinkable's topic in The Chat Board
I followed all those bra sizing/fitting links and must say that switching bra sizes has been great. My calculated size was off, though. I measured to be a 42G but a 40DDD was what actually fit so I'd definitely take the bra calculations with a grain of salt. A well-fitting bra makes a world of difference. -
My idea of heaven! LOL I eat low carb and mostly whole foods; definitely healthier than most people I am intimately acquainted with. :) Breakfast is almost always a small bowl of the healthiest cereal I can find with 2% milk over it because it's fast and easy and mindless. If not that, 2 eggs, either soft boiled, fried in butter or in an omelet with sausage, mushrooms, peppers and onion. Usually with milk to drink. Lunch is often leftovers from dinner the night before. If not, it's a salad with lots of veggies with an Italian dressing and sometimes eggs or tuna. Sometimes it's a smoothie. Sometimes it's veggies and hummus and a fruit and some kind of dairy. Snacks: Cottage cheese, cheese chunks, olives, nuts, pickles, veggies and dip, fruit, dark chocolate, egg, yogurt. Dinners are almost always a meat, 2 or 3 veggies (I love broccoli, green beans, brussels sprouts, cabbage, tomatoes, kale, salads, zucchini, etc). Sometimes a fruit (watermelon, berries, prunes are my favorites), potatoes or sweet potatoes. I also ADORE taco salad with beef and black beans and tons of veggies. We have that almost once a week. We usually eat taco soup a night or two later (beef or chicken, broth, tomatoes, jalepenos, onion, garlic, black beans, corn). Yum! My favorite foods other than glazed yeast doughnuts, blueberry or sour cream cake doughnuts or boston creme doughnuts are vegetables and meats. :) If I can avoid doughnuts, I can do really well with healthy eating. :p

Cincinnati Museum Center, Cincinnati Zoo, Newport Aquarium, Kings Island, Underground Museum are all fun in the Cincinnati area. We like the Cincinnati Art Museum http://www.cincinnatiartmuseum.org/. Cincinnati chili is a must try. If you go through Lexington, the Kentucky Horse Park is great. Kentucky has numerous wonderful state parks. If you go through Louisville, the Frazier History Museum is good. Louisville Slugger museum is pretty much across the street. A riverboat ride on the Ohio River would be fun. A hot brown (meal) is a Kentucky classic. Yummy! Mammoth Cave National Park is awesome. Kentucky Down Under is nearby and fun. Corvette Museum is nearby, in Bowling Green. Actually, quite a few fun things near Mammoth Cave. Dollywood is a long way out of the way. It's great but about 5 hours away from Cincy. If you do go there, post back and I'll give you other ideas for that area, too. We live in the area. :)

Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana.....what to see/do?
mamatohaleybug replied to ChristusG's topic in The Chat Board
We loved visiting NASA's Infinity Science Center in coastal MS. We also really enjoyed our swamp tour. We used Pearl River Eco Tours. Vicksburg, Natchez and the Natchez Trace are fabulous. We DID NOT enjoy New Orleans for the most part but we did have fun in the general area this past January. -
Peppermint, eucalyptus, and most citrus blends. I like sweet almond oil as my carrier. I buy my oils from Butterfly Express and love many of their blends. WakeUp, Paine, Sunburst and LiteN are my favorite blends from them.

Haven't read all the responses but my young DD has been on 80 mg of omeprazole for over a year after 40 mg didn't work. Her doctors (specialists) all agree that there is no risk to her at this dose. So maybe it's just not enough.

I'm so sorry. One of my DD's seizures is on the top of the scariest moments of my life list. I feel so much empathy. Huge hugs!

If your child will turn 12 in October...

My DD turns 12 at the very end of Sept and is going into 6th (in our state the cutoff is Oct 1 but we held off sending her to public school in K). -
Another routine versus schedule question
mamatohaleybug replied to Ausmumof3's topic in General Education Discussion Board
We do hard stops, too, and that's what makes our routine work. Good luck!
