  1. My hubby is in this club too. We have been working on getting our house out of the 1970's. The kitchen and upper level floors were done this summer and fall. Just yesterday I was removing carpet from the stairs. This weekend is sanding more trim and cutting down/redesigning our dining table to fit the new space.
  2. We did a complete kitchen remodel last summer. Kept our soffit since DH didn't want to remove it (extra work, etc) so we kept our same layout. I would have ditched the soffit to open it up, but it wasn't worth it. Installed shaker style natural cherry cabinets and honed black granite countertops. Pushed out the counter a bit to have an arc to sit at for meals. Have a big single bowl undermount sink now. Will hang some pendant lights over our eat at counter sometime.
  3. This is what I would do. See if they have a translator who can help you figure out the needs of the girl (celiac, etc) and dog care info.
  4. put beef stew in instant pot to slow cook all day prime trim bake cupcakes bake cornbread do dishes paint trim make frosting frost cupcakes write 60th anniversary card for tomorrow laundry help girls get wheels on their derby cars
  5. It is so yummy warmed up! Tortilla chips work for anyone gluten free too.
  6. I put post it labels with numbers and arrows to guide kids through the process of using the washer and dryer. If I have purchased an extra of something like mustard, BBQ, cereal and want to store the back up downstairs, I put a dot sticker (like a garage sale price sticker) on the one upstairs/in use. This way when the mustard is gone, I see the dot and look in the basement/pantry instead of buying another.
  7. Go with It's a Wonderful Life. "bread, that this house may never know hunger. Salt, that life may always have flavor. Wine, that joy and prosperity may reign forever" Easy, available and consumable. :)
  8. I'm so sorry. I am so thankful you went when you did.
  9. We used paper plates, cups, bowls and silverware as much as possible. Lots of sandwiches and cereal. We did dishes in tubs on the steps. Took about 6 long diy weeks.
  10. Our local schools were all open, it was about -10 degrees out and they still had recess. I am in MN. We do play when it is good snow (sticky for snowmen) but not as much in January. We take days when it is nice in spring. :)
  11. If we did that we would have a lot of time off. We got 2-4 inches a day Monday-wednesday.
  12. Routine screening coverage isn't always what it is cracked up to be either. I have had crohn's disease since I was a child. As time goes on, colon cancer risk goes up for me more than the average person. Colonoscopys are the way to check for that. I was happy one year when I saw they would be covered for people under 50. Imagine my surprise to see a bill for the whole procedure. The second they took biopsy's, it was no longer considered a screening (even though they need to biopsy the colon to look for potential activity/pre cancer cells, etc.) it was considered diagonistic and they covered nothing. So yeah. More stuff that needs fixing. Even though the procedure did what was needed to try to be preventive, it still wasn't covered.
  13. Part of the problem to me is the lack of transparency of the part of providers about cost. I tried calling to get info on what a big evaluation would cost and couldn't get a direct answer from any providers office. As a consumer, I feel this information should be more available so I can choose for myself the balance of cost vs provider. I did it for my granite counters (got many estimates. Prices ranged from $3,500-5,000.) So why shouldn't I be able to find it out before doing a medical appointment, evaluation, lab test or x-ray. The second problem is with crazy billing practices and disallows. My sister in law had a line item the other day that was $1200 for a blood test. It was disallowed down to $90.Over 90% discount. It is such a broken system.
  14. We are adjusting now before middle school with our oldest June b-day. I found her studies showing it was a good idea.
  15. We lived off of sandwiches and cereal and disposable plates, cups and silverware this summer when we did our kitchen
  16. Would you sign your kids up for online Art classes? If so what age students and what would you want to see covered? What would be be the best format? What would be a reasonable cost?
  17. Already did a return and exchange. No lines at 8am! Probably going to help the girls build doll beds in a bit
  18. What about something geared to an interest? A sewing magazine or state nature magazine?
