  1. Thanks. I'll try hand-washing it. I'm wondering why the itch. The dress is lined so my skin isn't actually touching the wool. I'm hoping that washing it will eliminate that problem.
  2. I have to go to a funeral tomorrow and I picked up a black dress at a consignment shop. It's a black wool lined dress. However, it feels a little itchy and has a slight perfumey smell that I can't identify. I was going to have it dry-cleaned but they couldn't turn it around in time. Would you hand-wash a wool lined dress? Or will I ruin it? It looks like this except it's 100% wool. http://www.talbots.com/online/browse/product_details.jsp?id=prdi29208&rootCategory=cat70008&catId=cat80018&sortKey=Default&section=Regular&conceptIdUnderSale=cat70008
  3. I have a question about apartments/hotels in/near Rome. If we wanted to go visit Rome, how would we go about finding an apartment to rent for a week? Also, when I look at tripadvisor, there are SO many hotels and they're so expensive. Any tips?
  4. I thought we were looking for a Wii. But now there's Wii U and someone told me about xbox 360. Then there's xbox 360 with kinect and without. I'm feeling a little overwhelmed. My 14 yo son wanted a wii to play games. That's all I know:). Any recommendations or advice? Thanks!
  5. My husband accidentally bought regular detergent and I didn't notice until it went into suds lock just now. I've been using it for days. The washer is full of suds. I tried scooping them out and running the rinse cycle but it just fills up with more suds. Any advice????
  6. I'm still trying to decide what to use for this coming fall for my son. I was leaning towards MFW World History but then I came across TOG. If anyone is aware of how they differ/are similar explain it to me, that would be great. I'm not entirely sure I know what I want (part of the problem) but I do know we want a literature-based program with some sort of a guide. Yes, I've looked at Sonlight & Beautiful Feet. Obviously, I want to be involved and discuss and guide but I can't have something that requires lots and lots of teacher planning. Anyone want to give me they're opinions on whether TOG might be a good match? And if it's worth the cost with one high school aged child at home to use it?
  7. Does anyone have any thoughts on Rosetta Stone Russian? My 9th grade son would like to try to learn Russian using RS but I wanted to ask for opinions first. Thanks.
  8. I don't know how to do quotes so I'll just answer the question. yes, he LOVES to read!
  9. Two questions about Sonlight. Is the guide similiar to BF? Also, if it's geared to middle school, is it enough to count for high school credit? He's a young 9th grader, so we may end up holding him back a year/have him do an extra year or take a gap year but that hasn't been determined yet.
  10. My son did Beautiful Feet Ancient's in 8th grade and very much enjoyed both having the guide to follow and the literature approach. This year he is technically entering 9th and wants to do World History over 2 years. When I look at Beautiful Feet World History, I see that he's not necessarily ready for the books they're using. Can anyone tell me what other literature-based programs are out there for World History that may be similiar to BF? I did look at Ambleside Online but with no "guide" to follow, it looks a little more intimidating. Thanks for all your help.
  11. Thank you. Levi's does have that size online at Amazon. When I had looked at the local store, they didn't carry the 29x34 and I assumed Levi's didn't make them. Thank you so much!
  12. I can't seem to find jeans to fit my son. He really is more of a 28x34 but can wear a 29 if he needs to. It seems that I can find 29x32 or 30x34 but then they're either too short or way too loose. I'm looking to shop online and, preferably, not spend more than $40-50/pair on them if I can since he's still growing quickly. thanks for any assistance.
  13. I just want to agree about "the Anti-Cancer" book that Negin mentions. My surgeon recommended the book to me when I was first diagnosed this past summer. It outlines alot of what she's talked about here and I've consulted it many times. it even has some check lists on foods and different types of cancers. Thank you Negin for all the information.
  14. Hi, Silly question but I'm not getting a response from college board. My son registered for the Nov (4?) test (actually I registered him) and for whatever reason it didn't save the school choices to send the scores to. We didn't realize this until one of the colleges notified us that they hadn't received scores and we looked at the college board website. We then entered, again, the list of schools to receive scores and paid for the scores to be sent. This request was end of November. The Nov scores were finally sent to the schools on Dec 29. However, college board did not also send his December scores which are available. Will these also be sent automatically to the schools that we requested for the Nov test or will we need to pay again to have the Dec scores sent as well. I'm hoping this makes sense. Any input is greatly appreciated. His applications are all complete but we seem to be having such trouble getting his scores to the schools. Thanks
  15. I ordered my son a hoodie online from American Eagle but when we removed it from the plastic wrapper, it had a very strong moth-ball odor. I contacted AE and they said i could return to the store but he really likes it (other than the odor, of course). Can you think of any way to remove the smell? i did try to wash it once with some oxy-clean and with vinegar in the rinse cycle but it didn't work. Thanks, Karen
  16. We have a maremma. They look sort of like a great pyr but bigger. Ours is 110 lbs. They were bred to stay with the sheep in the mountains in Italy and guard the sheep (not herd them - just guard). I should add that this is an outdoor dog. This dog and his siblings and parents all have jobs to do and have never been in a house. I think that it's fairly typical of the breed. With ours, it's also because I have a dog allergy:). But it hasn't stopped him from bonding with us. He especially loves our youngest son and is loathe to leave his side when ds is outside. If you have any more questions about him, please feel free to pm me.
  17. Thank you for your replies. I'll have to look at the subscription that was mentioned. I don't know if the closest cancer center is a "good" one or if it's worth a drive to a bigger, better rated one. Thank you also for the input regarding timing. It would *seem* like every day counts but I know that it doesn't:) This is an area where I really didn't have any knowledge before and am trying to learn.
  18. Let's just say someone had a lump felt by their gyn at the annual appointment. This was followed by mammogram & ultrasound. The doc at ultrasound said that it looks "quite concerning". Biopsy is scheduled for next week. There are so many questions. Should this person go to the local hospital or travel hours for a bigger one? And how do you get an appointment at a bigger hospital - just call one? Also, in researching biopsies, there seems to be some controvery surrounding the safety of needle biopsies (that they can spread the cancer cells?). The docs at this hospital are quite insistent that needle biopsy is what will be done - not surgical biopsy. does timing matter? This week versus 3 weeks from now? Thank you for any input.
  19. Just take them to a few meetings and let them check it out. They'll know whether they like it or not. My ds loves CAP. Really. He's 16 now but joined when he was 12 and he was very, very shy. It has helped him to be more outgoing and to take a leadership role where appropriate. My younger son who is more of an extrovert just recently joined. He loves it too. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask or PM.
  20. I don't know how to do quotes so I'll just answer/comment on a few things. Yes, I have considered plugs for the tear ducts. However, my tear ducts are abnormally small and they don't have a size small enough. My opthamologist did try closing the tear duct by basically cauterizing it shut (and yes, it hurt as much as you'd think). Unfortunately, it healed and re-opened. You're comments on Northern Idaho vs. Southern Idaho & nevada, & utah are a little bit what I would expect. I wonder if living on a lake would help - not directly on a lake (we couldn't afford that) but close to a lake. We are planning a trip west but, of course, there's no way to tell if I'll be fine in 6 months.
  21. Thank you for the link. Spokane has only 16.5" annual precipitation but the average relative humidity is 80%. So, on one hand it looks like it would be really dry (precipitation) but the humidity makes it look otherwise. You said that it was really dry. Now, I'm even more confused. The locations we are looking all have greater than 30" annual precip. just to try to make sure it's as "moist" as possible. I'm wondering if that will even matter.
  22. We're been strongly considering a relocation for some time now. One thing that concerns me is the issue of humidity? I have really dry eyes. I have for years and I treat them using ointment. As long as I'm diligent with the ointment and wearing sunglasses when out in wind, then I do fine. My eyes are great and need no maintenance when it's REALLY humid or when I'm on the ocean. I have the most trouble when the wood stove is going constantly. How do I figure out if a location is too dry? If an area has annual precipitation of 36"/year, does that make it more humid? Does living near a lake or river help? How does relative humidity or dew point figure in? I need to be able to figure this out before moving because a visit obviously won't include all times of the year:). I might be fine while there in spring but terrible the rest of the year. And, lastly, does anyone have any experience with northern idaho or northwestern montana? Did you find dryness an issue there?
