  1. I really don't want to go through the hassle of buying online. Did I mention I have sensory issues when it comes to shoes? Online shopping for ME is awful! Where can I find Sketchers?
  2. This may actually be the way I go. I'm hoping for something a bit more feminine but I already wear men's running shoes (found some with cool colors).
  3. I start nursing school on Monday and at orientation, they told us we have to have solid black or white leather shoes. For the average woman this wouldn't be a problem. But I have HUGE feet and buying shoes has always been difficult and frustrating. There's a store about 20 minutes away I'm going to try today but I don't want to be stuck with the Dansko Professional clog. I owned a pair and they were okay, but I'm also very tall. I don't need to be any taller! Plus, I fear my ankles rolling in them. I can feel my blood pressure rising over this......... :banghead:
  4. After three days, the kitchen mission is complete! Thank God that's over. LOL! Today: Clean my bedroom Laundry Maybe go shopping for my nursing school shoes and supplies Supposed to go to a friend's to wash and vacuum her car (she's chronically ill) but the rain pouring down may mean rescheduling. Have a great day, everyone! :)
  5. I start nursing school this coming Monday. Thanks for the tips in this thread!
  6. Our rice cooker is simple: steam, white rice, and brown rice settings. I had to run it twice on the white rice setting so a total of about 1 1/2 hr. No problem with sticking. I just used a cake spatula to lift if from the sides then flipped it out onto a plate. The batch I used was a normal batch for about 4-5 people. I wonder if my recipe calls for too much milk and that's why it took so long...
  7. It looked interesting to try so we gave it a go this morning. It took two rounds through the rice cooker and still came out a little gooey inside. The kids loved it though! :) Anybody else?
  8. This happens to us occasionally in our rural area. Weird! Elfgivas, that is quite a to-do list! Just looking at it makes me want to crawl back in bed. :)
  9. Yesterday's cleaning had me in the kitchen for three hours and all I did was the floor and all lower cabinets. I did tackle mount mail too, actually. I had 15yo dd (who is earning her driving school) wash walls. She spent three hours on just the walls from our stairwell. Our very excitable German Shepherd comes bounding in to see us and on a rainy day, that means mud streaks. 10yo dd just came in saying that it now feels there's something missing on the walls. Today, I think I'm returning to the kitchen and cleaning out all cabinets to wipe down, and then washing the outside of all of the upper cabinets. I cannot believe how gross this job is! I said to dh last night, "I guess this is what happens when you have two full-time working parents..." Library Post Office Workout Cook dinner
  10. It's supposed to be a bit drippy but that wouldn't ruin a day in Portland like it would a day at the beach. Rain coats will do!
  11. Trying to think of what I can do today...just too many options! On the must-do list: ship a book. I totally forgot about it and now I think I'm going to pay regular handling price instead of media mail due to my guilt. I promised myself I would clean something. Not sure which thing to clean just yet. Going to get 15yo dd to clean the stairway walls. We have mud streaks from the dog. She needs to start helping out now that she's on break from school. :D Hmmm, starting to sound like a delegating day. lol!
  12. You were supposed to make this easier for me, Sassenach! And btw, I KNEW you'd be the first to answer this thread! :D
  13. I'm thinking it may be Fiery Cross. I'm staring at the stack across the room...just need to haul my bum over there and start flipping through the pages.
  14. We were planning to take a day trip to the beach but the weather isn't looking great. Dh found the Urban Adventure Quest for Portland, OR. Have you ever done this one or another city? What did you think? http://www.urbanadventurequest.com/tours/things-to-do/portland_oregon/default.aspx
  15. I think I was only on the third or fourth book. I guess I need to just open them all up and look. LOL!
  16. I have a week off of work and want to get back to my book but I can't remember which book I was in. The last thing I remember is the family getting ready to leave the big gathering. There was something going on in a tent but I don't remember what it was. It's been nearly a year so I'm totally lost!
  17. I would get her to her doctor as soon as possible. Like others have said, it could very well be drug interactions and I pray that's all it is. If it does turn out to be dementia, there are medications that one can take to slow the decline initially. The doctor can also advise on what steps need to be taken when and help prepare the family for what's ahead. :grouphug: eta: YES to what Jean said! A UTI can certainly be the cause. Most people don't realize how bad UTIs can be. No one really ever talks about it except with the elderly. Definitely get her to a doctor and have a UA done.
  18. Okay, so with the age, definitely wouldn't think stroke.
  19. I'm in the beginning stages of acceptance but I still find myself different sizes in the mirror depending on my mood. If I just worked out, I see a great body in the mirror. If I step on the scale and am higher than the day before, I see a fat person in the mirror. But I've learned this about myself so I'm working on it. As for clothing, I've finally found ME. I used to think I had to measure up to some of my more dressy friends but I never felt comfortable. Now that I've had some time away from them, I can breathe. I am very athletic and found that I am most comfortable in clean, well-fitting athletic wear. If you don't see me in that, you see me in my scrubs, or a long skirt on Sunday. And I LIKE it this way. :D
  20. My 9th grader just finished her first year of public high school as a freshman. We decided to send her to ps when I realized that what I wanted for her with regards to curriculum and outside classes was going to far exceed my hs budget. I just couldn't bring myself to teach her with anything less. The school here is amazingly rigorous so we ended up going for it. And because of the rigor, I held my breath all year long worrying that if she failed something, it would reflect poorly on me and my homeschooling. That's hard to admit, but it's just the way I felt and no matter how hard I tried to let it go, I still worried. She had some major fumbles in the beginning but pulled out both semesters with a 3.01 and then a 3.23 gpa. And she passed Algebra 1, her worst subject by far! She had a HEAVY load this year with taking pre-AP classes, Spanish, and Algebra and was rarely in bed before midnight. All in all, it was a very positive experience. And now we are both breathing a deep sigh of relief!
  21. Wellllll, maybe. ;) However, this thread did send me over to my listings on Varage Sale and lower prices on things that aren't moving. :)
  22. Now remember, an item is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it! :D I've had GREAT success with my new/like new items selling for a high price. I always check websites before pricing and if a book is truly in used condition, I will sell it cheap. However, if I have any chance at getting more, I'll go for it. Doesn't hurt anyone and it helps pay all the fees associated with selling and shipping.
  23. Everyone is aware (with the exception of the transfer I mentioned because I didn't report her). I think it's a matter of waiting for the right moment. We have a tough union and the facility has been a bit scared off because of it.
  24. We take private pay, as well as all other forms.
