  1. Rapid instructional experience? Does he mean the thing that is far too often dictated by what "must be covered" before spring testing instead of the learning pace of the students? Or maybe he means the pace that is aimed at the average student, meaning accelerated and struggling students' pacing needs are not directly addressed, and that on any given day a concept will be moved on from without a percentage of even the average students having mastered it? Surely he can't mean the very thing every educator I know cites as one of the top 5 problems in their classroom? Yeah, let me run right out and very intentionally recreate the problems of the classroom model. >insert deep snarky eye roll <
  2. If you are part of a faith tradition that does not ordain women I would ask a minister before opening the role of usher up to women in your church. I have been in churches where it was a held theological belief that women should not usher and I have been in churches where it was just the way it had always been and no one had thought to change it.
  3. I just need to stop at one store. (In my defense- when I say that to DH, I sincerely mean it. I just remember we need to stop other places after we are out and about.)
  4. Just wondering- in the grand scheme of police/public interactions does it make a difference if the officers are responding to a report made via the non-emergency number versus 911? I have assumed that in the recent shootings the police were responding to 911 calls, which might give insight into why they seem to arrive already at defcon 1. I have called the police for several reasons over the years, but have never used 911 for anything but medical emergencies. If people are calling 911 for non emergency reasons, it is time to reeducate the public on what 911 is for. (Of course you will always have "those" calls like when my grandmother called 911 about her oven not turning off!)
  5. This. We have some words we call "driver's license" words. As in, I don't wanna hear that come out of your mouth before you have a driver's license because I hope by the time you are mature enough to drive a two ton death machine you are mature enough to know when and when not to drop the f-bomb.
  6. My daughter is fond of saying "crap on a cracker". (Which always makes me giggle.)
  7. I say holy crap frequently after church business sessions.
  8. Some time ago a poster shared that they only said words their pastor would use. My pastor drops the f-bomb daily. Even if I limit it to what he says from the pulpit, crap, shit, ass, jackhole, bullshit, suck, piss, and damn are all on the table.
  9. Christian here. I say crap, and shit, and poo. My children say crap often, too. I say them here; I say them there. I say them almost anywhere. (Except shit- no one says shit at Grannie's house and lives!)
  10. The moments of authenticity. When I see each child being truly who they are, those moments provide the greatest contentment and satisfaction I have ever experienced.
  11. Hank the Cowdog- (every audio book in the series has been fabulous and funny) Hoot Charlotte's Web Matilda
  12. My son is a 2nd generation middle name user. FIL- John Bob Doe- goes by John DH- John Bill Doe- goes by Bill DS- John Joe Doe- goes by Joe No one seems bothered and it has not been a hardship for DH. My grandfather, uncle, cousin had the same name pattern as my FIL, DH, DS and also have had no real problems.
  13. Conscription or the draft were a part of every major conflict in US history until 1970. We manage to mire ourselves in conflict with or without an all volunteer military force.
  14. (((hugs))) I am so sorry. I am sorry for your grief. I am sorry for the hurt caused by another's lack of compassion. I am sorry that all the snarky comments and after the fact remarks we could share will not remove this pain.
  15. While there may be some truth in the first statement (especially considering it is time to sleep) the second is pretty funny. Unfounded accusations. Huh.
  16. You did not accuse us of insincerity? Well, no one friggin' said you did. You did however say that those who profess to be both believers and supporters of homosexual unions are not using logic and are either full of bull or delusional if they think that their prayer and study of scripture led them to that conclusion. Which I guess makes me a sincere fool. And, since prooftexting is better than context, 1 Corinthians 1:27 "but God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong," So if I am a fool, I must be right on the money. No? There is more to it than that? Well a hearty no shit.
  17. As a believer who has come from the position that homosexuality was both a choice and a sin to the position that it is neither, this is absolutely insulting. The examination of my beliefs, of scripture, of history , science and prayerful introspection took place over more than a decade and began before I had any personal connection to someone openly homosexual. If I said that those who view homosexuality as sin were basing that on prejudice, cultural Christianity, and a lack of thoughtful examination of the heart of the gospel message you would not appreciate it. If i said that to hold to one's beliefs was a human response of fear whenever a challenge is made to the status quo it would serve no purpose except to shut down discussion and scoff at your beliefs. What is so difficult about saying that the Church has never been monolith in interpretation and that, while you do not agree with some of your brothers and sisters in Christ about this, you recognize that they are sincere in their love of God?
  18. One day I will learn not to drink while reading this forum. One.Day.
  19. These kids today are incredibly resilient and open. These kids today are able to form friendships across ethnic and religious lines that a few generations back would have been unthinkable. These kids today are able to treat those with differences as equals instead of the brunt of teasing and cruelty. These kids today are able to withstand a near constant stream of media input telling them that they are not enough unless... These kids today are capable of so much kindness and compassion, unless the examples shown by and climate created by the adults in authority teach them that all those things aren't important.
  20. INFP But my P/J is almost dead center. My S/N was an even split in my early 20's, but has moved more and more to the N as I've aged.
  21. I agree. I should have found a less divisive example to make my point.
  22. I didn't really want to "go there" with abortion because it is the only thing surer than gay cake to get people frothing. I went there though because the corollary is this: All throughout the scriptures we see Jesus saying that his love is for everyone. It is for those that the religious insiders despise. If in all those passages we are supposed to accept the cultural understanding of that place and time as the last word from God on sexual relations, why does that same cultural understanding not apply to the scripture you quoted? Why do we reject the understanding of the time that an unborn child's life was not the same as a child passed from their mother's womb, but embrace the cultural understanding you attribute to human sexuality?
  23. Just agreeing that you should check the needles- even if they are just a little bent it can cause problems. If you don't have a manual to show you how to check/clean the lower plate area or re-thread try searching youtube with the make/model of your machine.
