  1. This is what I'll do if I can't find the wooden ones. It is so frustrating! It shouldn't be this difficult to get the real deal.
  2. Does anyone have an extra set of level 3 tiles that they would like to sell? I bought used and it was supposed to be complete, but no tiles were included. Seller doesn't have them. I realize there are other options to use rather than the actual tiles, but my daughter really responds better to the tiles and I would like to have a complete set for future use. It is my understanding that I can't buy them from Barton, so I guess I'm stuck scouring the internet for a set.
  3. That's awesome! The cost and time definitely make the whole process even more overwhelming than it already is. Did you call your insurance to make sure they cover the testing? Some do and some don't.
  4. This was me as well. Everyone kept telling me "you'll know when you're done". I thought they were crazy, until the moment it became true and I did know. That moment came long before the point you are at, so you are amazingly strong for making it this far. I want to tell you that it is perfectly acceptable for you to decide that you are not strong enough to carry yourself and him too. Sometimes (often in fact) it is okay to let the other person fall in order to hold yourself up. He will grow stronger without you, or he won't, but you will not both break.
  5. I was raised nondenominational Christian, but I never truly felt it. I didn't begin seriously questioning it until adulthood. After years of thought, study, meditation, life experience, etc I have settled at agnostic with atheistic leanings. I have/will never claim to "know" the truth, but I highly doubt the existence of a supreme being. I have a strong distaste for organized religion of any kind.
  6. I have contacted our county extension as well as the local master gardener group. So far I've just been rerouted. I do have flowers, but I'm not sure how bee friendly they are. I love gardening so could definitely plant more. I live on a 1/2 acre lot with a sizable creek running through the backyard. We have quite a bit of wildlife. It is not unusual to see deer or fox, and our residents include owls, frogs, squirrels, rabbits, muskrats, beaver, and a large variety of birds. Carpenter bees, wasps, yellow jackets, etc don't seem to be bothered, only the smaller bees. They do seem to be concentrated around the lamppost I mentioned earlier and I noticed that "my" lamppost comes on earlier than the rest.
  7. I've had a few people irl snicker at me for being so concerned. This kind of feels like a big deal to me. I want to do something if I can.
  8. Thanks for the ideas regarding who to contact. I thought about the light thing and I do have one of the few lampposts on my street at the next of my driveway, but the two I witnessed today happened late morning and early evening, so maybe that explanation doesn't fit? I suppose they could still have been lost and tired from a day of searching, but why always on MY driveway? The whole thing saddens me, but I'm also really interested in figuring out the mystery.
  9. This is the second spring/summer I've been in this particular house. I noticed last year that bees tend to die on my driveway. Throughout the season I would sporadically find 2-3 dead bees at a time. I definitely took note, but didn't think too much about it. Already this year I am seeing this in greater numbers. Right now there are approximately 20 dead bees out there and I have noted (and recorded) 2 bees who were actively dying. They were unable to fly and just wandered aimlessly about. I kept my eye on the first one over the course of a few hours and it definitely got progressively worse until the bee died. I ended up putting the second out of its misery (please don't judge as I'm pretty upset about this whole thing). I know nothing of bees, but these appear to be several different kinds (they don't all look alike). I've googled and not found much that sounded correct. I'm not seeing this on neighbors' driveways or surrounding sidewalks. We don't use pesticides. Does anyone have any idea what's causing this? Is there an agency I should contact? Any ideas at all?
  10. Darn it. I'm in St. Louis, but know of free resources in adjacent counties. I was hoping you were a bit closer ☹ï¸
  11. Would you mind divulging where you are located? You mention St. Louis so I'm curious as to how close you are to me. I might have some suggestions depending on where you live.
  12. I agree with onestep regarding diagnosis. Schools don't/won't diagnose or recognize dyslexia, so anytime I hear SLD-reading as diagnosed via the school system I always suspect dyslexia (though I admit that I'm not always right😉).
  13. I have 4 girls, so this likely comes from lack of experience, but I would not find the comment funny at all. That sort of talk/threat, whether "typical" or not, isn't humorous or tolerable. I would be pretty upset if my kid said this or another child said it to my kid.
  14. I said you couldn't get an auditory processing eval until 8; that's not the same as phonological processing/CTOPP. You can get the CTOPP through a neuropsychologist evaluation, some speech pathologists, maybe the public school? They will evaluate her at her age. My warning (having been through it with my 6 yr old) is: depending on her severity/complexity you might not get any answers at this age. My daughter is somewhat mild/moderate so, while there were huge discrepancies that point to dyslexia, her scores were all still within the "normal " ranges for her age. Those ranges are reduced as kids get older. I was told to retest in a year or two. The dyslexia center should have suggestions/resources.

  16. Approx. 2 hrs. -LA M-Th for 1 hr -math M-Th for 30 min -History or science, 2 days each for 30-45 min.
  17. I have a cat with major food sensitivities and she is in renal failure (she's 18 yrs old). I have been feeding her Natural Balance (but this one https://www.naturalbalanceinc.com/cat-formulas/dry/limited-ingredient-diets/green-pea-and-duck)dry and canned food for many years. She is a free feeder who never overeats. I leave a bowl of dry food down at all times and she gets 1 can (the larger cans) of wet food per day. I remember being told that dry food is better because the wet will rot their teeth, but I've more recently been told that cats tend to not drink enough so the wet food helps with hydration. So I just give both ;).
  18. Any loss is impressive. I say good job!
  19. No advice, but my DD12 is very small for her age (not even on the growth chart). Her pedi has expressed mild concern and run a few tests, but has never recommended stopping puberty as means to encourage growth. Interesting. I'll be listening in. With that said, I doubt it is something I would do.
  20. I think this is typical, which is why I'm having such a difficult time getting my 6 yr old diagnosed. I absolutely know there is something going on, but others have missed it or written it off as developmental. Until I spoke with Susan Barton. She sees definite signs of dyslexia.
  21. Most audiologists won't test for an auditory processing disorder until 8 yrs old. It's very frustrating. Just FYI.
  22. I voted other. Boys (or girls for that matter) should stop playing with Lego sets whenever they want? I guess I'm looking forward to your explanation because I kinda don't get the question. Is there really a specific age someone "should" stop building with Lego?
  23. I was already homeschooling my 2 older neurotypical kids and had plans to homeschool this DD as well. I would love to at least consider the 2 dyslexia schools in our area, but at $40,000/yr it just isn't an option. There is no way I would put this particular child in the public school system at this point in time. Her dyslexia just sets homeschooling in stone for us. Add dyslexia and public schools to your research.
  24. There are many, many myths and untruths regarding dyslexia. I'd encourage you to research. http://www.dys-add.com/dyslexia.html
  25. My 6 yr old struggled with letter names and sounds despite a couple years of consistent teaching/practice (she finally has them down now, but it took years). She is likely dyslexic. However, she also struggled with colors, shapes, and numbers. It's a word retrieval issue for her, which is linked to dyslexia. Can she point to the correct letter if given the name/sound rather than being asked to retrieve the name/sound herself?
