S/O of Planners-New question
Oakblossoms replied to Desert Strawberry's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Honestly... Make your own. Put all the kids on it. Get as much on that page as possible. Include a supply section and a what to get for next week section. 4 planners is going to give you the work to plan, the work to make sure everyone is reading their planner...you will loose time just for that. -

Rod and Staff year 9/10 language arts

I found that this afternoon. We moved this month and I couldn't find the box where I set aside all my planning stuff. It was in the little ones closet :p -
How do you plan your week?
Oakblossoms replied to Laura Cook's topic in General Education Discussion Board
There is nothing regular about my life. My husband works a crazy rotating shift and isn't home often. I plan by the day and we try to get as much as we can done that whether it is Saturday and we start at noon or a Tuesday starting a 8. It is crazy but we have never been able to be normal :p -
What is your thoughts on 1st grade Language Arts?
Oakblossoms replied to Michelle My Bell's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Have you tried the Queen's Language Lessons workbooks? I prefer to have them do it on paper or a whiteboard. -
I think your doing well meant...holy moly you are rock awesome!!!! Do you do beans? Dry beans bought from Azure or Bob's Red Mill in large bags are a great meal stretcher. I can get our budget down if I make sure to have beans going every day. Not sure if you wanted advice on stretching your budget. I am trying to figure out toilet paper and laundry detergent currently. We used to go to Costco where we lived previously. It was on our way to the gym. It is a 2 hour drive in the middle of no where now. And, the rolls I bought at Walmart seem so much smaller.

I think you are doing well. I am aiming for 200 a week for our family of 7. My husband works really hard and is away from home for his shifts. I think I need to up it to 300. I might be able to bring that down by buying more in bulk. We haven't done much meat in the past. Now that my husband is eating it regularly we decided to get a freezer and try and find a half a cow. My costs include everything. And, we no longer have access to Costco here either.

Two hours of 90 degree weather with 7 people in a minivan that might possibly need some work is not my idea of fun :p. Everything here is like 4 minutes away.

POLL! Which Smartphone to buy and why/why not?
Oakblossoms replied to sheryl's topic in The Chat Board
Everyone I know with an iPhone is happy and don't have to replace their phones. Everyone else I know have issues or their phones fall apart. I put an otter box on my iPhone and it works great. It is really easy to understand, as well. My husband has to relearn every time he gets a new phone. I think he is on his third phone since I have had mine. I have a 4. -
Costco is 2 hours away :p. since our move I have been buying white cloud toilet paper and arm n hammer detergent at Walmart. The toilet paper rolls seem small. Anyone order online? I can do Azure, as well. Just haven't gotten that going yet.

We are a family if 7. Less fancy stuff. The fancier a program the less likely it will be done. I tried a ton of reading programs with my third child. Picked up OPGTTR at the library sale. Stay away from the computer. We have used it a lot in the past. But, really it can take so much out of our day. I am purposely returning to real books like MUS instead of Teaching Textbooks. Reusable programs and make them work for the next child. Stop trying to buy the perfect thing. They pretty much all teach the same thing. If you move, check the library system first. A good library is worth it's weight in gold. Paper and pencils and copy work and written narrations are very simple and amazing tools. You can buy 5 different language arts programs this year. Or you can really focus on the process and progression of oral narration to written work.

I really like the WPD planner. But, it encourages my children to think learning only happens M-F especially my Aspie. My husband has a rotating schedule so our life doesn't. I found it works better to just make my own lists and label them Day 1, Day 2, Day 3. Keeps the kids on track. They work ahead in one subject as well. My bigges thing is I need a larger family one with all of us on one page. I need to see at a glance what everyone is up to. My older two are just not independent enough to keep their own.

Writing program for late reading/dyslexic dd10
Oakblossoms replied to momto2Cs's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I have a son like this. I would use materials from SWB. I don't find FLL 1 at all to young for my delayed 10yos. I would use that and copy work. You could also use The writing program from PHP, as well. -
We are moving to Montana as well. Considered North Dakota but the homeschool stuff is how Montana won.

My blog is an embarrasment to myself
Oakblossoms replied to SorrelZG's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I totally have it all together. I make all my own bread. My kids always do all their chores. Our homeschool is perfect. We sing hymns to start the day. And, yesterday I knit 12 hats for orphans. Don't look at my blog. It will make you feel really awful. Then you will feel even worse when you realize that you can't afford the $65 rainbow organic panties made by my latest "sponsor". -
Could someone please help me pick a "remedial" math program?
Oakblossoms replied to ereks mom's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Doesn't MUS have a consumer math program?
