  1. I would go speak with the director of the specific program he is interested in. Ask them what they are looking for in a student. What strengths does he need? What are some weaknesses they see in students? Consider using a calculator as part if his IEP. What Math have you tried? I wonder if the Key To series would help for specific topics?
  2. I have a child who is behind if I compare him to this board. But, I know when I was in Uni 5 years ago he is not as bad off as I thought. Many "normal" kids only get through Algebra or have to take it again at the college level. We are trying Life of Fred this year. I wouldn't have considered it before. But, I really tried readjusting my own brain and dousing on what this child really needs instead of what others do or what my "friends" think. I, also, started looking at learning levels instead of Grade levels. If a child can "only" get through the logic stage in TWTM they are doing very well.
  3. The stomach issue thing is really calling to me. Have you considered he has Celiacs even if he has had a negative test? Gluten can exacerbate problems in people who already have issues like RAD, bi-polar or spectrum disorders. Of course, getting a RAD kid to stay on the diet might be nuts and not worth it.
  4. I think she feels pretty safe in her relationship with you if she can admit she doesn't like you much. If you have the budget, maybe order a bunch of catalogs and let her pick out some curriculum. Let her start doing 3 subjects per quarter instead of a full load. I never thought I would so it, but I finally broke down and took one of my kids in for meds to help with depression and anxiety. I wish I had done it years ago. You might consider some counseling or maybe some good supplements. Take this opportunity to discuss that what we put into our body including TV and foods can affect how we feel.
  5. Cost effective and easier ingredients is always a bonus! I need some inspiration.
  6. How about his bedroom? You could even put it on the ceiling! On the wall across from the toilet. Hallway Kitchen wall
  7. You dominate and nap at drink fruity alcoholic health drinks at the same time. :gasp :handtyforehead
  8. I am so glad I started this thread. I hope everyone here got some encouragement. I really need to stop being so hard on our homeschooling relationship. we keep moving forward and that is what we can do. I just want to see them happy, confident, loving, and giving adults. I would love for them to know who they are before they go out into the world. I thought I was so ready as a teen. But, I wasn't at all. Life is just learn, learn, learn.
  9. Cha-Ching! Got my cranberry because well you need to keep those UTI's away.
  10. I am glad we aren't the only ones. I was tempted to stop and ask strange children at this point :p. we finally live somewhere they can ride their bikes safely. And, summer doesn't last forever in Montana.
  11. I think planning and curriculum shopping is getting to you ladies...y'all need a mikes!
  12. My kids love rising their bikes here! But, there are some crazy trees with thorns and they keep popping tubes. Any suggestions?
  13. We use the computer DVD-Rom and a 70 page notebook. I stock up when they are cheap. He does one list a page then flips it to the back. Thy way he can't see the previous day. We are so happy with this. His spelling and handwriting were awful. But, this has helped immensely and it is totally independent. I just peek at his notebook every once in awhile!!! It is on my every child will use this list.
  14. They have history Scholar for older kids :)
  15. The woman has the babies and the man gets snipped :p. Men can certainly have issues as well. But, it is a much easier and less invasive procedure for them.
  16. Yeah I would love to know how to get it done and what curriculum is helpful. I can't outsource with my older two yet. I am praying next year my oldestight be ready for a College course or two. Anyone with special needs? My first and third are and unfortunately it has affected us so much. My second is such a good worker but he gets lost in the shuffle.
  17. I don't want a planner this year. I think The Well Planned Day was helpful last year. But, I am just back to keeping a monthly log of books read and where they are. Then I put a white board near the desk in the living room where we have been keeping track of what lessons they are on for the current week. Planners and lessons sheets always end up so messy. Logs keep us moving along. I just didn't want any more paper or books that I feel like I can't get rid of. If for some reason, I need to show proof I will have a nice overview of our year and where everyone is at.
  18. Wow do we have the same kid? He took 2 years for biology. Talk about stab myself in the eye with a dull spoon:p I had planned in a year of chemistry with living books and other things I could get through our statewide library system. But, I have a copy of Apologia Physical Science. So, I am considering doing that because he never did it. I know some people don't consider it a High School Science but a lot of schools do it for 9th. So, I can just put it as 9th grade science on his transcript. He is probably going to graduate at 20. He needs time to mature.
  19. How about lots of books from the library or use better world books? Ken Burns documentaries. Lies my Teacher Told Me. Then maybe make up your own essay report, a timeline, and weekly written questions on reading.
  20. Andante it was more the health side? You could pick up a health workbook from Rainbow and do a few here and there.
  21. Would his instructors consider making up a form letter or a certificate of yearly completion?
