  1. We are heading home now from 5 days there. Our favorites were the National Gallery of Art, American History Museum, Library of Congress, Holocaust Museum and the monuments. We did the air and space and natural history museums, too, but didn't love those. My kids are 17,15 and 12 and would have probably liked those more when they were younger. I requested a White House tour 7 weeks in advance, but we couldn't get one. The capitol tour was interesting, though. We stayed at an airbnb outside of the city and rode the metro everywhere. It was so convenient. As far as food, we walked a ton to get to the restaurants I had found online. I have celiac and didn't want meals to be stressful. We ate at food trucks on the mall on Saturday. That was the only day we saw them nearby. Also, Roti Mediterranean Grill wasn't too expensive, had big portions, and was good. They have several locations. We liked Pi Pizzeria and b dc (burgers), too, but I thought they were a little expensive. We loved Pitango Gelato! Have fun! We would love to go back, there were so many things we didn't have time to do!
  2. Yes, they did a ct scan after the accident that showed 2 brain bleeds and they did a second scan 24 hours later. The doctor told her the bleeds were almost gone in the second one and that she was being released. She was very irrational and still confused when we talked to her late last night. She had made it home and just wants to sleep. In my opinion, they gave her pain medication that is too strong. It was easier to convince her she needed care when she could feel pain. She has no idea how unlike herself she sounds. I'm hoping when she wakes up this morning I can talk to her before she takes any meds. I can't tell if the confusion is the brain injury or the meds.
  3. I'm so sorry for your loss! I was surprised they were willing to medicate her to release her, too. She should be home any time now and is still refusing to go to a hospital. But, I did convince her to have an immediate follow up with her primary care doctor. I hope she can get in tomorrow.
  4. My sister and I have begged them to go to Emory or Vandy! At this point, Mom is refusing to go back to a hospital and I don't think we can convince her today. I would feel much better if she would get checked out at either of those hospitals tonight. She is being stubborn and just wants to get home and sleep.
  5. I would really appreciate your dh's neuro's name! Surprisingly, they released her this afternoon with instructions to go home and find a neurologist and orthopedist right away. It seems very fast and she was not doing well at all when she was released. She is in a lot of pain, unable to put any weight on one leg or lift one arm, and very confused/disoriented. She kept telling the nurses she was very uncomfortable with being released and they said they could medicate her enough to get her home. So, she is in a car with the friend she was with and is heading home. I believe they are outside Atlanta now. She is too medicated to communicate well and he wants to just drop her off at her house and check on her tomorrow. I doubt she needs to be spending the night alone tonight and have no idea how she will get up the 4 steps into her house. I'm scrambling now trying to find someone to stay the night with her. I had not even considered she would be going all the way home today.
  6. Thank you for the help, hugs, and prayers! I can't believe how overwhelmed I feel, I thought I was better under pressure than this. We are waiting on the results of a scan this morning to determine the next step. She is much more confused today than she was yesterday, so I'm not sure what to think about that.
  7. My mom was in a car accident in Albany, GA yesterday and has been told she has two bleeds on her brain, a concussion, and possibly a broken hip. They are saying it's possible she will need to be transferred to Atlanta for surgery. Does anyone have any experience with a neurosurgeon or hospital in Atlanta? She was on vacation and lives in Nashville, and we live in Texas. I am trying to get to her, but I am concerned that a decision will need to be made on her transfer before I get there. Thank you for any help! Alison
  8. I was in a long distance relationship for two years in my late teens. You are welcome to pm me for details.

We tent camp there often. It tends to be very windy so it helps to have sand stakes for the tents. Also, a canopy of some kind for sun protection is a must! Be sure to dig holes to bury the legs in or it will blow over the dunes! Our favorite spot is between miles 15 and 20, but beach driving conditions vary so we have camped as close as mile 2. We try to find a spot without too many people fishing nearby. There are people driving on the beach all hours of day and night so we try to make our camp visible using reflective cones and solar lights. Also, there is no internet/cell service away from the visitor center. We used the showers one trip but they were very dirty in the evenings. Usually we just take enough water to clean up in the evenings. Take lots of sunscreen and water! In moderate temperatures we need about 2 gallons a day for our family of 5 not including what I use for cooking and coffee. They do sell it at the store there but it is expensive. On clear nights the stars are amazing and the sunrise is gorgeous over the water!
  10. Two adults and two teenagers in our house use Deodomom. We buy it at Amazon in a jar. It is pricey but it doesn't take much! We were spending much more trying all the natural and sensitive skin brands at the store! We have used it about 9 months now and love it. It is best to be clean before using it so my kids apply after a shower and then again in the morning if they shower at night. ETA: I just looked on Amazon and it is quite a bit more than we have been paying for it. We paid $10 and it is now $15.49. I don't know if I would pay that!
  11. It looks like Pottery Barn offers a 5" box spring cover. But, I would probably try a fitted sheet first with that price! The weight of the mattress might hold it in place pretty well after tightening it a little underneath.
  12. My dh had one 9 years ago. He had a complication that has continued to cause issues. We think it was due to the dr taking a personal cell phone call during the procedure. He has not found a dr that can help (or takes it seriously) so we live with it. Feel free to pm me, but definitely read about complications.
  13. I am so sorry, Rosie. You are in my thoughts. :grouphug:
  14. We did end up telling them that we would do what we could once we had a contract in place. They came back with a few other cosmetic changes and they wanted them done before they would make an offer. No way! We haven't heard anything from them yet. Thank you for all the help!
  15. That is too funny! We have just the neighbor to make that call!
  16. That is worth a shot. I think he would have to go out while it is still dark, though!
  17. I was wondering if something like that would work. Have you tried it? Maybe it would be worth it to use it just to say we tried.
  18. Too funny about your dog! I agree that it is futile and they haven't made an offer yet so I am not too willing to do much work towards it until they do. We have two showings today and someone is coming for a second time tomorrow. Hopefully we will sell to someone who is less concerned about the wildlife!
  19. My dh has been saying that all morning!
  20. Thank you for all the suggestions! I told our realtor that if they are really that concerned about rabbits they may want to look at other neighborhoods because we have so many. We also have deer, fox and the occasional coyote but I won't mention that! However, they are insistent that they want this house if we can take care of that. We have had some strange things asked of us while trying to sell this house, but this one is stumping me! I am ready to be finished with this process so I will do what it takes. Unfortunately, we don't have a fence so an outdoor dog isn't a possibility. I think we will start with the water hose and see if we can force them out and then just fill the holes. I don't think we know anyone with a pet rabbit but I may ask around. DH called a critter control company today and they can come out and trap them, but they think a new group will dig new holes move right in.
  21. We have our house on the market and a potential buyer has asked what is digging holes around a storage building. We know rabbits live under there and have let them know that. They claim they are ready to make an offer, but only if we can get rid of the rabbits and fill the holes. Although this seems like a picky thing to be a sticking point, we are trying to accommodate them. Our neighborhood has tons of rabbits so I don't know what getting this particular group out will do, they will come back. But, maybe they will stay gone long enough to sell. Does anyone know of a good way to get them out from under the building and keep them out? I really don't want them to die under there!
  22. Actually, the most appalling interaction I have ever seen was at the Atlanta airport. A mom of two very young children was in the restroom that had a long line. The children were about 6 months old and a young 3, I think. The 3 year old was obviously very tired and hungry. He was melting down and there was really nothing the mom could do about it. I guess she was traveling alone because she had the stroller and many bags with her. She took the babies into a stall and calmly did whatever they needed in there while the 3 year old was becoming more and more upset. I felt terrible for her! But, when she came out of the stall an elderly woman with a very strong accent walked up to her and began screaming just inches away from the child's face that he was a brat and should be taught how to behave and she was a horrible mother. But, none of this was directed at the mother it was all at the child. Not that it would have been ok to berate the mother, but it was shocking to see this little boy be yelled at in that way. The poor mother put her head down, pulled the child close and had to push past this woman to get out. When I left the restroom she was sitting in the hallway against the wall obviously extremely shaken. I asked if she was ok and told her that it was obvious they had a long day. I offered to help in any way. She was so grateful and just burst into tears. It was really terrible and has been something I have thought about often the past 8 years.
  23. This isn't the same situation at all, but is the reason I voted other. My DS has played soccer for six years with the same coach and we have always been at every practice and game. But, this season we had 7 of the 8 games rained out and then many of the rescheduled games were rained out again. We never knew when a game would be played and sometimes had very short notice of a reschedule. We missed 2 games because of conflicts and 1 because of an injury that required resting for a week. The last game was rescheduled 3 times before it was played (2 weeks after the season was supposed to end) and we missed that one. The coach was very frustrated with us and commented that we had become unreliable. We can't keep every day open for 8-10 weeks just in case a soccer game pops up! On top of that, he also scheduled Tuesday evening practices at the beginning of the season and then changed them randomly to Wednesday or Thursday depending on his own schedule. We made all but one of those. In normal circumstances, when the original schedule comes out we block the practice and game times off and do not schedule anything that would interfere with that.
  24. I started having acne at 30 and it was very difficult to get it under control. What finally (5 years later) works me is washing with Cerave face wash, using bragg's apple cider vinegar once a day as an astringent, and putting honey on as a mask for 30 min. twice a week. I didn't find all of these at once, but the combination has kept my skin clear for nearly 10 months. I do still get one a month from hormonal fluctuations. Also, the off brand apple cider vinegar did not help. If your face seems too red from that back off to a couple of times a week. I had to stop during the winter when we also had the gas heat on, it was too drying. Cerave makes a moisturizer that I have used, too. But any extra moisture seems to be a problem for me.
