  1. I bought a 2019 Honda Civic in 2021. The sales person told me that cars now have active head restraints and that's why the headrest forces your head forward. I deal with it by tilting the seat back. Sales person suggested this. I feel like my back is in a C curve when I drive. I wish I could sit upright.
  2. When I was in my young 20s, I hired a lawyer. I had lost my license at 17yo by being foolish. I didn't want any tickets on my license. It was worth it to me. More recently, I was ticketed for not wearing a seat belt. I always wear my seat belt. When I was pulled over, I unbuckled my seat belt to get my wallet out of my back pocket. Anyway, I was darned if I was gonna pay the ticket, so I went to court by myself. I had to reschedule the 1st court date due to an out-of-town work meeting. I brought a friend as a "character witness". The officer never showed up and the ticket was dismissed. I suspect that the change in date helped. YMMV.
  3. Here is an amazing recipe that uses tumeric and cumin: Ethiopian Green Beans and Potatoes Would jalapeno scare people off?
  4. FWIW, I'm 62yo and loved playing with Barbies as a kid and can remember playing with Barbies in 7th grade. At that time, I had only one friend who would play Barbies with me. All my other friends had outgrown it. I saw it tonight, kind of reluctantly, and thought it was hysterical. I liked it much more than I expected. I wish I could have quickly written down some of the one line truths I heard. I didn't recognize these, not sure I've seen those movies, but when the men were riding "horses" back to Barbieland, wasn't that just like Monty Python and the Holy Grail? I think one of the reasons I enjoyed it so much was because in Barbieland, the tables were turned. And that just doesn't happen ever, at least it feels that way to me. It's such an uphill battle. I think this is the only movie I've ever seen with dumb clueless men. But, so so so many movies have dumb clueless women. I don't see many movies, though. ETA: Remembered 9 to 5. Loved it.
  5. TBH, my early attempts at going vegetarian relied a lot on pasta and cheese and not so much on beans and veggies. I wasn't educated about WFPB back then.
  6. Every time I tried to go vegetarian when I was menstruating, I also went anemic. While I now eat WFPB (changed around peri-menopause), I do eat 1-2 servings of chicken/beef/egg per week. I know one lady who was a lifelong vegetarian and was always anemic but she had no symptoms. I always felt fatigued. I cook mostly with cast iron now. I think it's helpful.
  7. We moved to FL in 2004 and could only be insured through Citizen's at the time. We were not in a flood zone. When we sold that house in 2020 to downsize, the new owners could only get Citizen's. We are technically in a condo (like a 1 story duplex) now. Our roof is 19yrs old and I believe will be replaced next year. I've been told we can't change insurance companies until the roof is replaced. We have friends whose insurance doubled. I believe insurance woes will help to drive people out of the state. Our Guv has solved the insurance crisis by making it difficult to sue insurance companies. Now he has time to ban drag queen story hour, fight with Disney, fiddle with K-12 education and state universities, revise history books, and run for president.
  8. My gf who had ovarian cancer found the book Anticancer by David Servan-Schreiber helpful. Hugs to you and your dh.
  9. Ds and I went to Meow Wolf Denver. I'm a STEM kinda girl, and I didn't understand a bit of it. There was maybe 1 or 2 things I did sort of like (one had to do with a bigfoot type of character). I suggest paying for whatever helps they offer. I know there was some sort of audio tour we declined. I needed someone to explain it to me.
  10. No. The goal is more to escape the heat than to see fall colors. The weather here is nice starting in October.
  11. Ah. Did you spend each night in a different location?
  12. Tell me more about how you handled lodging please.
  13. Yes and I notice that Kejimkujik National Parkand Cape Breton HIghlands National Park are 7hrs apart. Seems like I need to split my time between them with a first or final day in Hallifax.
  14. I am planning to vacation in Nova Scotia for a week in September. My priorities are: (1) wildlife (2) hiking/nature/scenery (3) gardens. Any recommendations? At first I thought I'd get an airbnb for a week in Hallifax, but now I'm thinking I need to move around more. Thanks!
  15. What app did you use? I've been eating WFPB for 10+ years but recently by fingernails have been breaking (fwiwI had weak fingernails all my life until I started eating WFPB 10+ years ago). Several people have told me that I'm not getting enough protein. Thinking I need to track my food to confirm/refute.
  16. Lots of great ideas already shared. I almost never eat breakfast out. If I have a stove available, I bring oatmeal, cinnamon, nuts, and buy fruit and plant based milk for it. I bring homemade granola with me (thank you Laura Corin for sharing the recipe). Add some plant milk and it is breakfast. Eat as is for a snack. If I am eating out both lunch and dinner, I make sure one meal is a big salad. I will check the menu ahead of time and resolve myself to it. A lot of times, something else looks more appealing. If only sides salads are available, order two.
  17. I don't know how practical this suggestion is, but my dentist recommended an endodontist. One of the best things about the endodontist was that she was a petite woman with small hands. She knew what she was doing. It was much easier than I feared. I believe I got a 600mg ibuprofen prescription. Probably took 1 or 2. One root canal was done on a day when I took a later flight to a funeral. The doc said it would be fine and it was.
  18. You can search for his name at the county tax assessor website where he lived to find out if he had/has property there.
  19. We visited Iceland for a week last October. We both thoroughly enjoyed the trip. The goal was to see the Northern Lights. We saw so much more. Here is what we did: Blue Lagoon - loved it Golden Circle Tour - loved it South Coast Tour - loved it Northern Lights Tour (we had better experiences on the 2 day tour and just in Reykjavik ) 2 day Northern Lights and Ice Cave Tour with Glacier Hiking and Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon - loved it and saw the best NL in the SE part of the country Snaefellsness peninsula tour (pass on this one)
  20. I sold my old Toyota Solara to a friend whose mother had given her a Ford Fiesta. My mechanic said absolutely terrible things about the Fiesta. Said they made them to last only to the last car payment. Said they were designed so that a huge assembly was needed to replace one tiny piece. Said my old Toyota would last longer than her newer Fiesta. Stay away.
  21. I had a baby tooth without an adult tooth that was crowned when I was a teenager but eventually disintegrated. This was back around 1990 before implants were invented I think. I had a bridge put in. Is that a possibility? It may or may not make sense depending on the health of the teeth on both sides. I broke my 2nd to last tooth on the top a few years ago and decided to get an implant. It is true that implants don't work as well on the top. I remember the oral surgeon talking about some issue with the nasal cavity. It's a long process. It's an expensive process. A few months after I was finally done, the implant fell out. 🙁 So, another very long process (2nd time was free though). I think that my teeth did shift a bit and I had a lot of trouble with food getting caught between the 2 teeth just in front of the missing tooth. My dentist was able to make me a retainer that filled in the missing space while I waited for the long process to end. I don't know if I would get another implant if the missing tooth wasn't visible and didn't affect chewing.
  22. I made these a few weeks ago and they turned out perfectly. Today, they didn't rise. So here are some questions: 1. How do you warm the milk? 2. Do you wait to add the other ingredients until the yeast is bubbling? 3. How do you mix the dough? I *think* I waited last time until I saw the yeast bubbling before I added the other ingredients. I could be remembering long ago when I used to make pizza dough on a regular basis though. I found it hard to mix by hand this time, so I used my beaters. I suspected it wasn't going to end well when I left it to rise.
  23. Interesting post on a zombie thread for a first time user. Lori D will have to add the pics.
  24. (1) I have been working as a programmer for an airline since 1989. I was able to work half-time and homeschool for many years. Eventually, I had to work 30hrs/wk to maintain health benefits for the family, and a few years ago, a co-worker retired and my boss persuaded me to go full-time. I have been working with this airline all along, but through spin-off and buy-out, the airline is now my client. I started asking to work half-time with health benefits last year because I wanted a better work-life balance. I got nowhere. On Dec 1, I told my boss that since I could not work half-time and get health benefits, I was resigning as of Dec 31. In 2 days, I was offered half-time work with health benefits! The folks I work with at the airline intervened and my company made an exception for me. Yay! I could go on a rant at this point about corporations and health insurance and shackles, but I won't. (2) On Jan 1, I got my very first pension check from this airline. I was not supposed to get it until I turned 65yo, but because of the buy-out last year, I was able to get it at 62yo. Woohoo! It feels like free money, but I earned it long, long ago.
