My dd is 16 and this has been an issue for a long time. We ruled out health related issues with blood tests etc. You could do the sleep study. As for my dd, she is a night owl and always has been. From the time she was very young, she came to life at night. I read one time that it has to do with the time of your birth but who knows. My dd needs more exercise, but like yours she is also very thin too. I think that daily walking etc. is good but hard exercise is not if they are too thin to start with. If we let her, our dd would stay up til 2a.m. every night. But we don't. So she is in bed by 11 p.m. and then lays there. At least her body is getting rest. If we let her stay up, she would sleep until noon. As it is, I wake her up by 9:30. I figure that once she starts at the Community college and she has to get up at a specific time then eventually her sleep schedule will work out better. Mine does get cranky the later she goes to bed especially if it is several nights in a row. And she complains about not being able to concentrate which I think is due to lack of sleep. But mine also goes non stop all day. She is just a busy bee. I think she has always had a high metabolism. I'm sorry that I can not be of much help. We have not given her anything to help her sleep. I have tried meditation and relaxation. I even made a relaxation tape for her. That seemed to help some. Also, this sounds silly but where is her bed in relation to lights from a hallway etc. I'll be watching this thread for ideas myself. ha Thanks, Amber

Age does not bother me as much as seeing someone running for president starting to look low and slow and that's with the running not even being president yet. No matter how young they are when they go in.....they look like they've aged really bad by the time they leave. Yes it bothers me that McCain is the age he is. And, Obama also bothers me and that has nothing to do with his age. I can't feel good about either one of them much less do I feel positive about what they will do when they get in to office. I do not feel that either of them have even made the traditional political promises as of yet as to what they are going to do. This is scary to me. We've had 8 years to find a strong president......I just don't see it with either. Amber

After teaching little ds (7) for 3 hours I feel like I could go to bed and sleep until tomorrow. lol Do you feel that way too? My brain feels like mush and my eyes hurt. He reads awesome but it's the explaining that drains me I think. So if you feel that way....what do you do? coffee? chocolate? sleep? lol Thanks, AMber

These are such cute ideas. Sounds like you all had or will have a really fun first day of school. Thanks! -
I feel really badly for these children and the poor woman that was murdered but THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HOMESCHOOL. The attorney that said homeschooling prevents them from finding out about horrific crimes has a problem with homeschool in general and put the blame on it versus the system and family. Where was the family??? Where was the wifes family? Where were her friends etc. Did they all go to what they thought was her funeral 4 years ago. This is not homeschooling. This is probably many, many people who had concerns but did come forward probably because he was a minister. How many horrific crimes have you read about and in the article it said.....the kids were public schooled???????? It just does not happen that way. While I am saddened but this horrible crime, this has nothing to do with homeschooling. Just my 2 cents, Amber

As DC read books do you have fun ideas for keeping a list????
Amber replied to Amber's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Hi Janice, That's a cute idea. I bet my 2nd grader would like that. You are right, about the older but wouldn't it be fun to get real excited and tell them about it just to see their reaction. lol AMber -

That's a cute idea. So you just make a copy of the front and then you could attach it to the wall. amber -

Laptop for high school student? Mac or other?
Amber replied to debbiec's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
We bought dd a Dell Laptop. They had a very good sale right before school started a couple years ago. It's wonderful because of the portablity. Amber -
If it's too much money then do it at home. I would not sacrifice. I love art and I think classes are great depending on the teacher and the age of the kids. DD is a wonderful painter so I am looking for an art instructor. DS is 7 and loves to draw so I got him some paperback drawing books. He's happy. Amber

How do you get them up and moving in the AM?
Amber replied to Kathie in VA's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
We plan to start walking too. DD has a hard time getting up but she is a night person. DS is up and ready but he is only 7. Exercise! Amber -
We do odds or even and then see how your child does. It's kind of the carrot. If they do well then you move on. If they need extra work then they can do the others. amber
