  1. Oh...yee haw!! I am so happy...goody. Okay...I am going to just buy the workbooks. I did find certain things helpful in Teachers manuals, like the reminders to count to such and such, count backwards etc..but I though...in K? I will have the 1st grade manual so...we will just wing it with the K workbooks. Thank you so much...I was hoping you all would say I did not need it! :D Happy Happy! Thank you! Kim
  2. Hi, I am going to combine Singapore and Horizons. Is the TE Guide necessary to use the workbooks in Math K? I may end up just using Horizons but am going to see what happens. I don't know if the workbooks are pretty self explanatory at this level? Thanks! Kim
  3. Thank you all soo much! Anyone else want to list the "absolutely must have" manipulatives? This has been so helpful!! Blessings, Kim
  4. I just realized I have Math Mammoth 1A, it is from 2007, would it work w/ Singapore or are they too much alike? Is Math Mammoth to be used by itself? Thanks! Kim
  5. I noticec Rainbow Resource has a "manipulative package" for Horizons...is all that necessary? I have some math manipulatives, cuisenaire rods and other things... Thanks everyone for the input. I do not really want to use 2 programs because I am TRYING to make things easier around here w/ 7 kids. I tend to buy to much and then we can't possibly get to it all so I am in the process of simplifying! Kim
  6. Hi, I CAN NOT decide. Horizons or Singapore? I have a 1st grader who just hates CLE math, my other daughter loved it but they are very different. This daughter is a more "creative" type and would love color and doing different things... I want something fairly easy to teach! I also have a 5 1/2 year old son I would like to get going in math and am just not sure. I want a good solid program that we can stick with! Thanks in advance! Kim
  7. If the Zo is a Zojirushi, I have one, love it! Customer Service is great, we had one for 3 years and it quit working, they were going to help us get it fixed, would have cost but not like a new one, my husband said to just get a new one. I use mine everyday, sometimes twice a day. Makes great chocolate bread and apple bread! My next choice was going to be the panasonic. Kim
  8. Thank you! Another question....if I have a child reading at 5th grade level but is not solid on phonics or spelling rules, should I use intervention or 2nd grade Saxon phonics? Kim
  9. I know it comes with little readers correct? Would using Bob books be enough for practice? Thanks again everyone! Kim
  10. Okay...see..this is my thing, I am wanting to fill in the gaps for phonics and use if for spelling. I have a 10 year old and 7 and 5 and 3 year old so...trying to find which would be best to get. We also do ETC workbooks, my kids love those. I have Sonlight LA but one of the first things I do is look to see if it covers spelling rules, maybe it is just me but this is important to me. So..when I saw Saxon Phonics and started researching I was getting excited!
  11. Oh...I do have more questions, thank you so much! I was wondering about Intervention because I didn't know if it covered everything K-2 did or not? Also...can a K'er start in 1? I heard Level 1 basically covers everything. I CAN NOT believe I didn't know about Saxon Phonics. I have been wanting a good thorough OG program w/ really good lesson plans that was not $300 a level ..ha! I also really want this to cover spelling though! Do you feel that they will get a good grasp on spelling also? Thanks again! Kim
  12. Hi, I can't believe I didn't know about this, this seems to follow an OG method and is scripted. Does anyone use this and what do you think.. Pros and Cons Thanks! Kim
  13. Thank you!! I appreciate the info. I know some people prefer or "want" the 2nd Edition. I really like what comes w/ the 3rd, although the Student Text is more flimsy, as far as the quality of paper.
  14. Okay....I had looked at this thread, found a neat free site that you could print out like the letter Ff and it had pictures on it of a frog, fish etc...things that started w/ an Ff for the child to cut our or whatever. Anyone know which site that was? Been looking forever....:tongue_smilie: Never Mind...wooo hooo....I found it, thank you everyone for all the links, these sights are AWESOME! Kim
  15. Yes...I have the 2nd edition and am curious if there is more/better info or something worth getting the HS, 3rd edition instead. Thanks! Kim
  16. Hi, What is the big difference in Saxon 5/4 2nd edition (hardback books) vs 3rd Edition (homeschool softbound set)? Is it worth getting the homeschool edition? Thanks!! Kim
  17. No...we have that and we do that everyday. I just had read that they should have all these already mastered so I was not sure if this would be enough. So...if we follow the plan w/ 5/4 and do those facts everyday as scheduled, this will be enough? Thanks for you input!! Kim
  18. Hi, I have a child doing 5/4 Math however...I am wanting them to be a bit more sold in the math facts, maybe w/ a better understanding. I do not want to stop doing 5/4 because he needs to keep moving but...would Developmental Math be something he could do along side that to solidify the facts. We are doing a "math facts" program on the computer but it would be nice for him to "see" how it all works a bit better. Maybe I don't even need to worry about that just keep plugging away w/ the facts on the computer.. Thanks! Kim
  19. Hi, Okay...I really want to use a "hands on" math for K-3. Rightstart was TOO much and my kids like workbooks. I have Miquon and am sort of baffled, maybe I should not have looked at the Geometric shape section...WOW!! Is Miquon really as hard as it looks to implement. I like "lesson plans" to a certain extent, even though I don't follow them exactly. My daughter had been using CLE 1 and she just doesn't like it, I would like them to have more of an "understanding" a the lower level..if that is possible. Anyway....Maybe I just need to read more in the Annotations book of Miquon but just looking at it is doesn't fit my way of teaching, however..at this point..I am willing to give it a shot. Any ideas? Singapore...Miquon? I read where some use both, how on earth does that work? Thanks! Kim
  20. A friend of mine recommended "Before The Change" by Ann Louise Gittleman. It has LOTS of ideas for supplements, symptoms you may be experiencing etc.. lots of great stuff. I was experiencing similar things, not really hot flashes but flushed feeling, then cold. I am 45. She says the average age of menopause is 51 but perimenopausal symptoms are felt by some women who are only 35...sooo.... One thing I started doing was taking Vitex daily along w/ flaxseed oil, evening primrose oil etc... HTH Kim
  21. Hi, I have a son who does not like to write, he is 5th grade level. I need a way to get him going, maybe through copywork first? But...I need to get him going slow but GOING. I am talk about Writing like in Writing with ease. But..we have NOT done Language Lessons. Just curious what you all think? I was thinking either Writing With Ease (I have a grammar program) or Queen Language Lessons. If I do Writing With Ease can you start a beginner, basically, without going down to like a 2nd grade level? Thanks! Kim
  22. Yes....I just got an email from Barbara Getty, I decided to ask her:001_smile:. She said the Instructor's Manual talked about that so...I will be getting that also! Kim
