One of my kids is Deaf so we were in a position to learn ASL pretty quickly. We have used LifePrint (http://www.lifeprint.com/index.htm) It is very good and free. We also use Signing Saavy with the paid membership. The paid membership (about $50 a year) lets you have access and create lists. It also lets you use the Phase Builder feature. My kids are 9-13, so we have taken classes at the continuing ed program for my local college. This was fantastic and something we plan on continuing. :-) When they get older, we will do ASL through Dual Enrollment at my local college.

Our previous math curriculum was great, but the video lessons didn't have captions. I need help finding a curriculum with video lessons that have captions. Thanks

I really need an online Calc 2 class too and I really understand your frustration. The closest thing I have is an in person cc class. :( We currently take all our math classes through AoPS. I think it depends on what they are talking about. I would think each and every condition has what a medical profession might consider severe. A severe hearing loss means that a person can not hear if a sounds is less than 71 decibels. It is a defined level of hearing. Hi, I was planning on getting either ThinkWell or Plato for science. Have you tried both or one? Let me know what you think. If you have tried either, I would love to know your class and experience, I am not worried about having a lab, I just want my child to have the information in the class. I would also like something that tracks the students progress, either from their own portal or a teacher portal. Thanks

First child took the online class, used the videos and did the homework for the class. He rarely used the pre-algebra book unless he had to look something up. My second child is taking an in person class with book work. He reads the book and does the homework in the book. He can't really watch the videos, so he relies on the book much more than my first child. I would think a solid late elementary reader could do it. The "writing challenge problems" in the online class require pretty good writing skills. Especially in the beginning of pre-algebra, I would read over my son's answers with him.

I found LifePrint too difficult. I could participate in http://www.signlanguage101.com/ lessons for a long time, but the LifePrint lessons for only 10 minutes or so. As far as how long it will take.... that is a hard thing to tell.

Hi, my family did Beast Academy 3A, 3B, 3C and then my son took an AoPS Pre-Algebra 1 class. :) It was a bit tough doing the AoPS online class, we had to fill in holes, but after pre-algebra 1 he was caught up. :-) We would have gone through the other Beast Academy books, but they weren't released yet. :-)

I tend to do classes, so it is really expensive. I figure it is worth it if my loves what they are learning and they are being taught by subject matter experts that love what they do.

Thanks for suggesting this, it looks great! I love love love that it has captions. :D Most YouTube videos use automatic captioning and are OFTEN incorrect. It is definitely geared toward younger kids. Plus the music and background sounds are really distracting.

The AoPS Number Theory class changed my kids life. My son is taking the Int Number Theory in the Spring .

I know that some are on sale. All will be on sale next week with other small free gifts. For the last 3 years it has been the only place I have shopped on Black Friday. My library carries some of the videos, but not all.

Thank you so much for posting. :-) My son is taking this year off from regular math and will start Pre-Calc next year. I am hoping he can get ahead so he starts the Pre-calc class on a strong note. Alcumus is not available for non-intro subjects.

I think it depends. Some weeks are easier than Algebra and some topics are just harder. My son has mastered every week except angle bisectors. He thought angle bisectors and medians were extremely difficult....it was sooo hard for him. I almost wish the class was offered as 2 12 week classes. 24 weeks is a really really long AoPS class. This class also doesn't have the videos like many of the other AoPS classes, so that made the tough weeks a little tougher.

Here are a couple of ideas.... You could do a couple of Math Circles, Spy Academy (history of espionage, forensics and cryptography), electronics(Make Electronics book was our curriculum), programming in Scratch or Python, Architecture, MythBuster class, composition/writing and poetry class.

The first few weeks take a lot of work on the parent's part until the student learns the site and learns what is expected.

I generally buy when they are 70% off. They have a big sale each year on Black Friday. Often you can get 70% and a free bag. One nice thing is that many classes will give you streaming free if you buy the DVD. Then you can sell the DVD as new and un-opened. I don't really like selling things on eBay, but I did buy a photography class and I gave the physical DVDs to my sister as a gift.

After the struggle there is elation. :) That is my favorite part. :-) It is such a great curriculum because my kids learn how to solve tough problems. I am very jealous about getting to see Richard R. If he ever comes to Seattle, I will try to see him.
