  1. We are just figuring out that ds11 has Asperger's. He is brilliant with math, science, spelling, and grammar, but he struggles with reading and writing because he doesn't understand how to read between the lines and does't understand anything that isn't explicitly spelled out. He did okay with WWE (although he always needed the prompts for his narrations/summaries) and he did okay with WWS until the essay writing began. We were also using MCT Town, so I put WWS aside and tried some of the writing from Paragraph Town, but most of those bombed too. I finally got WS3 and he is whizzing through it, so I figured I would get WS4 for next year. But of course, I'm afraid when the difficulty starts ramping up he will get stuck again. Have you found any good writing programs for your dc with Asperger's? How have you helped them to learn how to read between the lines and to write essays? Any advice is welcome.
  2. It was sad. Kiserlovski stopped to help a teammate who had a flat, but Leipheimer was on his wheel and didn't realize Kiserlovski was stopping, so they crashed. Leipheimer felt really bad about it. The tack puncture count as of this morning was 48 riders, 3 out of the 5 TV motorcycles and a handful of team cars (that number wasn't reported AFAIK). Who saw today's stage? I'm glad Garmin got two in the top eight today! And it was nice to see Tyler in that sprint finish. It was beginning to seem like the commentators had written him off, but I think they will have to keep an eye on him in those two remaining sprints.
  3. I didn't know about Velonews. I will check it out. How do you access Eurosport Live? I'd love to watch other races too. I am glad the Olympics are this year - it will help with the withdrawal. So, my boy TVG was really uncomfortable in the interview immediately after today's stage. I really would love to know more about how everything went down (like what was being said on the team radios, etc.) I need to check out the evening show to see if more info was ferreted out by the press. I was totally impressed with Wiggins slowing everyone down so Evans could catch up. That showed a lot of class.
  4. Sure. Play the photo-with-a-baby card. ;) Yay for Millar today. :D And how about Goss switching lanes? Do you think it was intentional? Sagan sure did. Intentional or not, it was dangerous, and I think the final decision was a good one. But I may be biased since I like Sagan. And about Teejay - that was some class he showed going back for Evans yesterday. I'm sure it has to be hard to sacrifice personal opportunities for the sake of the team. I hope it's his turn to be the leader for the GC someday. Same for Froome. I know some thought he was trying to get a jump, but I don't think he realized he lost Wiggins because it happened so quickly. Both those guys deserve their own team someday.
  5. I was screaming for Pinot too. I cheer for all the underdogs. Cavendish - I just can't. I think I prefer anyone win but him. I'm not a huge Wiggins fan either. I have been impressed with Froome and I love Boassen-Hagen, but that's it for me with Sky.
  6. I too love how the commentators fill in some of the quieter moments with history and geography lessons. And I just love all the aerial shots. Dh and I decided since our anniversary is in July we are going to go see TDF one of these years.
  7. Who's watching this year? We had a thread last year, but I haven't seen one this year. I am in withdrawal since it's rest day. Who are your faves this year? What do you think about results thus far? Personally, I am really upset about the bad luck that Garmin has been having. Why do they have to be the ones destroyed by all the crashes? I was really hoping for Hesjedal to have a run at the yellow jersey this year. And poor Tyler. I hope he gets a chance to win a later sprint. It's fun to watch Sagan on those sprints - especially when he beats Cavendish. Which reminds me that second Greipel win was great! I'm also hoping for Tejay Vangarderen to get that white jersey.
  8. No special chair for dh. I get to pick my chair since my back is hurt. My PopPop had his chair though. I used to sit under the cushion and he would sit on me and pretend he didn't see me. :D
  9. We have one with three kids and it's fine for us. When we bought it I had one in a car seat and two in boosters and we didn't have any trouble at all. I have no problems seeing out the back, even with the car seat. We have gone on 2-hour trips with luggage smooshed in around us, but when we took an 8-hour trip we borrowed a shell thing for the top to put the luggage in so we wouldn't be uncomfortable.
  10. My dh must be related to yours. I always dust first (top shelves down to bottom shelves) then vacuum everything that fell. Dh hits the floors first and then gets upset when they get dirty.
  11. Similar response as others: We only use sunblock for prolonged mid-day sun exposure. No sunblock at all for morning or late afternoon swim practices. And if it's late in the season and they have a base tan, i wouldn't use it during mid-day unless at the beach or if sun was really strong.
  12. Matin Latin from Canon Press uses pictures for the vocabulary words. It drove me nuts because sometimes I needed to look the word up in the back if the picture could have meant more than one thing. But it might be just what your son needs for the extra reinforcement.
  13. :iagree: We don't have any pets to worry about and we find the heat and A/C circulate better when all doors are open, so we keep all doors open unless there's a reason for privacy.
  14. Looks like I picked the right day to pop back in here. Happy, Happy B-Day! :D
  15. Thanks for celebrating with me, everyone! :001_smile: That sounds amazing!
  16. I felt the need to start a new thread for my 1,000th post. :D
  17. Out of the options given I voted for four-year world history. But now that I've read responses I agree that a three-year world with a one-year US history would be great too! But then that would mess up the cycle for those doing it with multiple students. Hmmm. so I'm back to my original vote then.
  18. 1-2 bottom left drawer in office desk 3 my closet 4 top left drawer in office desk 5 top of his dresser 6 in a tote bag hanging inside school room closet 7 bottom of my closet 8 bin in garage 9 bin in schoolroom for current year, file cabinet in school room for past years 10 box in TV console
  19. Put them in a bowl of water. If they sink they are fine, if they float, they are spoiled.
  20. I like almost everything. My favorite part is that the laundry is off the school room, so I can still keep an eye on the kids. The only part I don't like is the kitchen. It is small and separate from the other rooms. I would love a great room where I could be in the kitchen and see everything else that is going on.
  21. So far I have kept one two-pocket folder for each child for each year. So far I have kept math tests, samples of writing projects, history timelines and a few maps. I let them choose a page or two from each subject that they want to keep. I'm sure I will reevaluate what to keep as their work becomes harder, but for now it's just a sampling of what we've learned.
  22. My three-year old loves coffee. He begs for sips of mine. (I only give him one or two and distract him). I wish I could get my 10-year old to try it, because I think one tiny cup might help him with his focus issues, as others in this thread have mentioned. We do not drink soda - at all. So, obviously I join in with those who think one cup for a 14-year old is fine. Is this thread giving anyone else coffee cravings? I have stopped drinking it temporarily while dealing with adrenal issues, but I really awnt to go brew a pot now. Thanks a lot! ;)
