  1. That description fits my three boys pretty well. I wonder if having girls in the mix or more than three boys messes it up a little.
  2. Another vote for let her sleep. That's what her body needs to heal itself. Tylenol only minimizes symptoms; and if she's sleeping peacefully she doesn't need it.
  3. I agree. It's really nice not to have the political debates here. :iagree:
  4. We are having big issues here too. It's funny that my aspie is doing pretty well, he likes the routine and everything is review so far. But my ds9 is making me crazy. Math is complete review. He is sitting in his chair and staring at nothing, like he has forgotten how to add and subtract. And handwriting. He had a page of tracing his cursive letters (serious review, since he's been doing full paragraphs) and it took him 45 minutes worth of complaining to get it done. They all had over 10 hours of sleep and have eaten plenty of protein. But it's really hard to start up again. Today is only day 2 for us, but it's not going well.
  5. I'm in DE like Luckymama, so I too love the statewide library system and do most requesting online. Our local branch is five minutes drive, but right near the farm where I get my CSA, so I go to both together on Saturdays. Movie rental places (other than a Redbox at the shopping center right behind us) have been gone from the area for a few years. We do Netflix, which is plenty for us. I don't have a favorite actor or actress, but my guilty pleasure is romantic comedy. I like most comedies as long as they aren't raunchy. Breakfast was eggs with spinach and green tea Lunch was PB&J and peaches Dinner will be chili, which I guess I need to go get cooking, and salad.
  6. I get about 3-4 a year, same symptoms as everyone described, but I get numbness in my arm and hand sometimes too. I started keeping a log and mine are all the same time of my cycle and they are always when I'm tired and have been drinking a lot of coffee.
  7. If the poll would allow, I would vote three times for newborn stage being harder, because it was true for all three of my babies. I love being pregnant. All of mine were late and I think it's partly because I didn't want them to come out. I cosleep with my babies, but I still can not handle the sleep deprivation. We have thought about #4, but there is no way on earth I would go through having a newborn again. It's torture for me. Yes, worth it in the end - my boys are my life - but I really don't think I could hack it again.
  8. And if you've swum in a pool where a swim team practices, you've also swum in a pool that's been peed in more than a fair bit.
  9. As someone on a swim team and/or lifeguarding from age 5-33, I have known many, many people to pee in the pool. In theory I couldn't care less, knowing that is not a health concern, but seeing it happen is different - especially if it is so obvious. I would be more embarrassed for her than grossed out.
  10. I didn't read all the responses yet, but I wanted to reply. This is a questions that you can answer in one of two ways. 1. Based on your own worldview or good v evil; or 2. Based on what the author's view of good v evil is. My favorite college class was called Religion and Fantasy. We read CS Lewis, Michael Ende, Ursula LeGuin, Madeleine L'Engle, and Tolkien, with lots of Joseph Campbell, Karl Barth and other fantasy/religion experts weighing in. What is so interesting about fantasy is the fact that the authors have their own views of good and evil, which are clearly portrayed in the worlds they create, so it is a fascinating discussion of not only how the author views the world, but the ways in which the reader agrees or disagrees.
  11. I received an email that a new version was just released. I just bought the Voyage Basic Package a month ago. It seems since I haven't used it, MCT will exchange the TM for the new one for $15 (includes s/h) but the email also said that with the new version the student book is absolutely necessary to go with the TM. Does anyone know if the new version is worth it? Who's going to make the exchange?
  12. Another vote for published order. The Magician's Nephew was my favorite when I read it at #6. I loved how everything came together. And one must end with the Last Battle.
  13. I haven't run into this too often. All Delaware libraries are in the system, so I go online two weeks ahead of time to request books. It takes a week for them to arrive from all over the state, then I have a week ahead to look and see which ones will be a good fit, a week while we're on topic, and a week extra just in case before they are due back. There have been times when every copy of a book is out, so then I do what others have suggested and peruse the same Dewey decimal number and choose some other books. We have always managed to find plenty of books on the topic. Maybe that's just proof that not many people in Delaware are using SOTW.
  14. *hops on the empty soap box* I was thinking much of the same (volleyball uniforms don't really bother me ;) ). I was completely befuddled why in all three nights of men's all-around we haven't seen even one rings routine! And on top of your rant, I'm really annoyed that the coverage runs from 8-12 when everything happened in London at least 5 hours earlier. They could edit out the extras and run it from 7-10. Then I would have to deal with disappointing my kids by sending them to bed early, OR having crabby kids the next day because I let them stay up. *steps down off the soap box so someone else can have a turn*
  15. I haven'tread any posts, so my reply is to top post only. We have five people and 2.5 baths. But the shower in the main bathroom needs to be fixed, so everyone shares ours for now. I think one shower/bath tub is fine - the real need is for toilets. I can't tell you why, but it seems like everyone always has to go at the same time. All three toilets get a lot of use in this house. If I were you, I would keep the plan as it is with just 2.5 baths. I can't imagine the need for three full baths.
  16. I went 14, 18, and 23 mos, respectively. If you have seen an increase in your cervical mucous (particularly clear, egg-white type) you probably are ovulating and should expect AF within a couple weeks. I knew AF was coming with all three of mine because of the CM changes. The first one is fairly heavy, but not too horrible.
  17. So far, I have kept track of grades for LA and Math (the only subjects that have had tests/quizzes). Now that ds1 is technically in Middle School, I was wondering if I should give him grades for each subject. He is beginning Algebra 1 this year, so I'm thinking the grade could be important. When do you start formally recording grades for your dc? (Poll coming, just in case it takes me a minute...)
  18. You can do it. There's a learning curve, so be patient. Once you figure out exactly the best way to get it to fit your body, you will love it.
  19. I've been on CHOP's waiting list for months. I estimate we have moved up to about a 6-month wait as of now. CHOP would be far enough, I don't know that I'd want to go to NJ, but I'll keep it in mind. Thanks. :)
  20. Yeah, that's the kind of thing I need to figure out - and I guess it will be made clear when I meet with the coordinator tomorrow. If I don't think what they have to offer would be helpful, then I won't have him tested. Last night I was looking through my notes from SWB's talk on Homeschooling the Real Child. She recommends that if you need to get your child evaluated that you should do it through a children's hospital instead of the school district because the hospital is bound by confidentiality, but the school district isn't. That makes me think maybe I should just keep waiting for CHOP's waiting list to get to us. I think we only have about 6 months to go as of now.
  21. AI's Behavioral Health department does not honor our insurance. AI's Developmental Peds do honor our insurance, but not only are they not taking new patients, they won't even set up a waiting list. So I call once a week and ask if they are taking new patients. Such a good use of my time.
  22. Thank you for the support. That was our situation. Ds's problems were explainable by other possible diagnosis, or attributed to immaturity, etc. It really wasn't until this past year when school got harder and I realized he couldn't make certain connections. As for the insurance, you would think that is a service they offer. But the problem is that often their listings are out of date, so you have to call the practice anyway to find out for sure. I have spent hours upon hours talking to different people at the insurance company and everyone gives me different answers. It's really infuriating. And this isn't some small independent company - it's BC/BS HMO. It's the HMO part that's killing us, I'm sure. Not many specialists like to jump through the HMO hoops.
  23. No way! That is really useful. I am so NOT a preschool play mom! You can entertain my 3-y/o anytime!
