  4. I would have the iron checked. I have a friend with anemia who eats ice in direct correlation to how low her iron is.
  5. My husband works in computer programming. He worked closely with actuaries for a few years. He said once you pass the first of the actuary tests, you can get hired immediately full time at a good salary, but half of your time is paid time to study to pass additional tests in the series.
  6. Can you hire someone to drive the car for you and pay for their airline ticket back?
  7. How much would it cost to pay to move the car? Flying would definitely be better. I would recalculate the trip based on no more than 6 hours driving a day for comparison to flying/moving the car. Does it make sense to sell the car? It depends so much on the kid. They may be fine or they may cry non-stop in their carseat. No amount of money would be worth the second situation to me. I think I would plan to fly and compare to see whether it makes more sense to pay to move the car or sell/replace it. ETA: I once took a 9 hour trip with my 9 month old. She cried non-stop from hour 7 to hour 9 no matter what we tried. That's less likely with a newborn, but it was absolutely awful.
  8. I am in TN, not Australia. We unfortunately did not find our perfect mattress on our recent vacation.
  9. Dh and I need a new bed. I am overwhelmed by all the choices. Dh is very large at 350lb. I am more average sized. Both of us prefer a mattress on the firmer side. I am hoping to keep our budget under $2000 for a king size. Where should I look?
  10. One of my favorites calls for leftover mashed potatoes: Brown one lb ground beef, then mix in about a 1/2 cup ketchup. In the casserole dish, mix the ground beef/ketchup with two drained cans of the vegetables of your choice. Top with about 2 cups leftover mashed potatoes and then 2 cups shredded cheddar. Cover, cook for 20 minutes at 350, uncover, cook for 20 minutes more.
  11. Math instruction that results in good test scores and hatred of math does not "work" in my opinion. Saxson is not the only good program available. I would be leary of an unfamiliar program if you don't feel confident in your own ability to assess a program, but any of the regularly recommended options here can be relied on.
  12. Let Saxson go completely, not just have him do some of the problems so that you feel comfortable. You have stated clearly that it is a bad fit for him and that he does well in math. Don't smother math enjoyment with your Saxson security blanket. Let him continue his study with something completely different, hopefully something that ignites his interest. If a gifted math student is forced to do math in a way he hates, his entire life may be directed away from the careers most suited to his strengths.
  13. I recommend meeting with more lawyers. If you walk away feeling discouraged from a first meeting, that isn't the lawyer for you. Court isn't a perfect instrument, but you absolutely can walk away from your abusive marriage and the right lawyer can help you in that fight, not discourage you by telling you all the things you won't get.
  14. If you can find a nice laundromat with a good waiting area and a large capacity, it will be worth a little extra drive. If any of your kids are mature enough to help with folding and/or transferring from the washer to the dryer, consider bringing a helper. Bring the convenient wash pods. If the laundromat has enough capacity to wash everything at once, a wash everything trip could be about 2 hours.
  15. Start with all the possible restarts. Restart your browser. Try another one. Log out and log back in. Restart your computer. Clear your cookies.
  16. Ours too. So annoying. It's a major reason I and two of my kids didn't get shots this year. When they first get the shots, its just inconvenient. By the time the season is fully fledged, I do not want to go to the largest concentration of flu germs.
  17. My kids have Freedom Pop phones. They get a limited amount of service for free every month. Their customer service is not great and you have to opt out of a whole bunch of things to get to the truly free level. They have data turned off because when data runs out, you can't use texting or calling. https://www.freedompop.com/phone
  18. There is a family friend we keep having odd coincidences with. My grandparents and this family were friends in IL. My grandparents moved when my dad was in middle school. My dad and a son from the family his age literally ran into each other at a small TN college years later. I became friends with a daughter my age from the family. She and I met by chance at a Chicago airport one summer. We both lived in TN at the time. She was on her way to Alaska and I was on my way to Alabama.
  19. I am so sorry Joyce. Don't believe that lie! This divorce is not your fault! You have been criminally attacked!
  20. Definitely get one with a drawer, not a door.
  21. I don't know about when I was a kid, but I had a confirmed case once as an adult. I had the flu shot that year and think it might have made it a little less severe. The trouble I have with flu shots is my insurance will only pay at a doctor's office, and I don't want to go and risk catching something. I am inconsistent about getting them as a result.
  22. I cannot comfortably use cast iron myself. It is just too heavy. I can't think of anything I regret giving away. I've given away many things of value. I didn't need them and they were a blessing to someone else which makes me happy.
  23. Also, it's your stuff, you can sell to who you want. You can sell to the person you get a better vibe from, a person with a sad story that touches you, a friend, etc. You don't have to sell to the very first person who contacts you. It's like a multiple offer situation on a house. You pick the offer you like for whatever reason. Honor your word, of course. If you tell someone they can buy it, give them a chance to do so before moving on.
