#1ds and #1dd both learned to read at 3, although it took #1ds till he was 5 to have any real fluency. #1dd was reading fluently by 4. #2ds was about 5 when he started reading and didn't get fluency until he was about 8. He is slightly dyslexic and wasn't real interested. #2dd still hasn't learned to read yet and she is 5.

The other thing that will happen is dh will say, "I want something with these ingredients" (proceeds to list 3 to 5 ingredients). Last night we had ham and pea pot pie with a cheese sauce.

When I use recipes they usually are from cookbooks or something like that. However, most of the time it goes something like this: What do I have in the fridge? Oh, what can I do with that? Sometimes it doesn't turn out so well, but most of the time it's pretty good. I haven't made anything inedible in a long time.;)

We made a leek, pepper, tomato, and black bean concoction with Mexican spices and put in tortilla shells. It was quite tasty.

We just finished The Enchanted Castle by Nesbit. Now we're in the middle of Red Planet by Heinlein.

I read a bedtime story to all 4 dc most nights. Sometimes it gets too late and we skip it, but most nights I read 1 or 2 chapters of something. It isn't always a book of fiction - we have used history and biography as bedtime stories also. By the way, the oldest is 15 and still enjoys me reading. I think it's a tradition at this point.:001_smile:

I happened to think of it this morning and had to watch it again. It had been a few years.

Getting outside usually helps me get out of my bad moods. See if you can find something you can do outside, even if it's just sitting on the porch or something like that.

We give our dc paper and pencil and tell them to draw the sermon. Having them practice sitting still is good, too, but remember at that age there will always be some wiggling.
