  1. I was trying to find the answer to this question also. BUMP
  2. Another manner that is lacking quite often is respecting your elders. Children around here do not know how to respect adults anymore.
  3. I hope this isn't taboo on here. I have been so shocked at how few manners children seem to have these days. I have been working hard to teach my children to have manners and my 2 boys to be "gentlemen". One of the things I have taught them to do is to open the door for ladies. I have observed that many women these days find this degrading. They act as if the "gentleman" feels that they are incapable of opening their own door. It makes me sad to see manners being disregarded. Does anyone else notice a lack in manners? If so, what have your experiences been?
  4. If you go to maps.com there are some workbooks on there called Understanding Geography map skills and our world. We have used these books with our k12 curriculum. I have liked them. http://www.maps.com/maps.aspx?cid=82,1316
  5. Thanks for the suggestions. I am new at this! I am learning so much from this forum. I LOVE IT!!:grouphug:
  6. My ds (going into 5th grade) cannot get enough history. I am wanting to find some extra things for him. He has already finished all of his 4th grade History for this year. What things have you tried and loved?
  7. Does anyone know of anything similar to Apples that is secular? Apples seems to be perfect in its concept, but I am concerned that it uses 3 versions of the Bible.
  8. Hmmm. It does look like just what we need, but I did just notice that it uses 3 different translations of the Bible. This could be a concern for me.
  9. If so what did you think about it. Is it helpful for some reinforcement for a 7th grader?
  10. It is pretty hard because my ds gets frustrated so easily. He will only read a page or word one time and if I try to get him to do it again he gets upset. Maybe he just needs a little more time.:001_huh:
  11. Is there anything that helps to teach blending? My 5yo ds is awesome at all the individual sounds but struggles with making them into a word. Has anyone found anything that helps this?
  12. Can anyone tell me anything about apples?
  13. One more thing...Any suggestions for a good vocabulary program? I will have a 1st grader, 5th grader, and 7th grader next year. It will be my first year homeschooling all of them. Is there something that works well for a span that big or do I need to buy something different for each dc?
  14. Which would you recommend for a natural speller going into 7th grade? She has gone to ps all except one year. She just needs some reinforcement.
  15. Thanks! That looks interesting. I will have to look closer when I have more time. Anyone else with suggestions?
  16. I admit, writing has always been my weakness. I struggle to teach my children. They are on their 2nd year of homeschooling after going to PS. My daughter will be 7th grade and my son 5th. They both HATE HATE HATE writing and are not good at it. Any suggestions from those of you who have been homeschooling a while?
  17. A little more clarification...My 7th grader has been a natural speller up until 5th grade. She started struggling more at that point. I feel that she still needs something, but not sure that starting at level 1 would be good. Since I am buying it for my 5th grader I was hoping to use it for both, but is there something else that could be recommended for a 7th grader that has not struggled up until about 5th grade?
  18. Has anyone started this with an older child? My daughter has never really struggled in spelling. I am wanting to buy this program to do with my 5th grader since he struggles in spelling. (We have been doing k12 and it has not been working.) My question is...where should I start with a 7th grader that is a natural speller? Should I really start at level 1? I am planning on it with my 5th grader since he struggles, but not sure what to do with my 7th grader.
  19. When I look on the SS website it shows rules. Are the rules only in the Patterns of English Spelling then and not in the workbooks?
  20. Anyone that uses the ss program....Do you need the patterns of english spelling to use this? I have a struggling speller. Thanks!
