  1. No I have not but I will look into it. If I could get that dropped down some it might fell like something I can tackle soon.
  2. Started off the first couple days with a bit of stress. My wonderful landloard passed away at 95, he will be dearly missed. So the house I live in was willed to his granddaughter. Did not know if I had to move or what. Found out with a slight raise in rent we get to stay and will know more come summer. Which is great news that we don't have to move in the middle of winter. We are paying off some collections debt we have had and did not have money to pay on there is three bills the first two will be paid off end of February and first week in March. The last one I don't even know how to tackle that one. It is about $40,000 in medical bills I have accumulated. BUT hey 2 of them will be paid off and done soon. We started a savings! This is a big one since we have zero in savings, no retirement, nothing. Makes me feel good. I have made a budget and really have done great at sticking to it. With meal planning, keeping an on going list of what is needed in the house. Makes the budget really go a lot better. I am not making endless trips to the store for odds and ends which is saving in gas. By the end of the year we will not have any loan payments left to pay. YEAH! School has been going smoothly. Took us months to find a nice groove and we are finding it. My oldest son is doing awesome in wrestling this year. He has taken first in all his matches! So proud of him and all his work he has been doing. He has also had a huge stride in school. I went to his IEP meeting last week and the special education teacher suggested we put him in the regular class room for his classes. That he believes my son has tried hard enough and succeeded enough to move on. We will keep him in the resource room for a study hour daily just for a bit added help, but this is a big one. He has been working hard to get to this point and here he is! He esteem boost over night was very noticeable. So, stress here is really seeming to go down and life is finally falling into place where it needs to be. I just really just needed to tell everyone that so far 2012 has started off to be a good year for us. Thank you for listening to my brag for the day. Anyone else having a great start to this year?
  3. I love both and use both of them. The links in Intellego work better for us personally, but I like that we have more ways to expand with RSO. RSO also has book suggestions and more worksheets than Intellego. Intellego states that they do not want to list books or give book suggestions since there are so many options and not available everywhere, which I do understand because I do find it hard sometimes to find books for RSO. As far as experiments RSO has more. RSO is written more to the student vs Intellego is written to the parent. One of my favorite parts of Intellego is how they have you do vocabulary, it is wonderful. The suggestions they give you to do it also makes it where you can bring in vocabulary, writing, handwriting and such all into your studies. I love it. So, I know I am not much help but I love both of them for different reasons that is why they work so great together for us.
  4. I have been looking up all these wonderful ideas. Now on movies and such I found only a couple on Netfilx, but Blockbuster had tons more. I am really like Blockbuster movie pass I go through dish network. There is a lot that Netflix doesn't have and it is wonderful. Just want to pass that on. Well last night we had a wonderful meal and used chopsticks. We came to the conclusion that if we had to use them everyday for all meas we would loose tons of weight.
  5. Wow, thank you. It all looks wonderful and gives me a great place to jump in at.
  6. Thank you all. We will be covering China in our geography unit also, so all this is great. Love the Great Wall idea he will love that.
  7. Now ours has been warmer than usual, but we are still setting at about 4:40pm or so and not raising till after 7:30.
  8. 1 minute 19 seconds, length of actual visible light is 10 hrs 25 minutes.
  9. Do you have any great craft, reads, movies, recipes, etc ideas and recommendations for us? I want to make this super fun and adding in a bit more I believe he will love it.
  10. Can you make more than one queue there? I hate going through and through the list I have to find the school items and the non school items. Becomes quiet the pain. Any way to separate them?
  11. :iagree: Many people here start early, so why be bashed because she is 4? Not sure on that one. Also if your daughter is like my son who is now 7 this is going to be a daily fight. I wish I would have stared doing something earlier to correct this instead of having the attitude oh he is just 4. Because it really was not just the fact he was four. And it sounds like to me you may have a long road ahead of you. I am sorry for horrible comments like some of the others.
  12. I could not do it, even if we at nothing but junk here. For a 2lb bag of carrots here it cost $2, one loaf of bread is $4, milk $5 a gallon, hamburger is almost $4 lb, nothing is cheap where I live. So even if I wanted to I could not feed my family on that. $200 a month would not even cover meat and veggies. Now I have cut our food bill down big time. I have started stocking up when stuff is on sale. Like when meat is $2-$3 lb I buy double I would pay that price for half when not on sale so I figure why not stock up. Or when canned goods drop way low I buy two cases so I won't have to buy them for a while. Now my house is small and storage is limited, but I would rather use up all the little storage I have to save a few dollars. Doing this has cut us down to $175-200 a week. Now none of that includes toilet paper, dog food, etc.
  13. I want an online program that teaches the concept and shows stuff, but where I can also buy kits for home to do with it. I know sounds perfect right? Well this is what I want and in a way what I need.:D Any chance anything like that out there?
  14. :iagree: Thanksgiving dh's sister came to our house with her children and brought her dog. Guess what the dog was sick and both the kids were. Needless to say since Thanksgiving we have been trying to recover. My kids were sick, I am still sick and my dog was sick. Common sense don't come to someones house over the holidays where food is served and hack and crack all over it and make everyone else sick! People sometimes really do not have common sense. Public schools are the worst. I don't know how many times I have shown up in my older children's classes and seen snotty faced kids all over the room, or some so sick they just lay their heads on the desk. It is so sad.
  15. I am uneducated compared to 95% of the people here. But to me what that family is doing in the last thread is worth reporting. Just because you homeschool is not an excuse to allow your children to fall behind, even if it is stressful on you to schedule and enforce it daily. That is the job as parents we took on when we decided to homeschool. As for the bare minimum I would say the three R's. No less, but still that is cutting it close, children need to be exposed to so much more than that. And if the parent is not able to do it then it is time for the parent to step aside or someone else to step in and take over.
  16. No as for the cover, are you even sure which one it is? Since they do offer 3 I would hold off on getting a cover till you open it. As far as telling your mom, no don't. Keep it a surprise for her later and a horrible temptation for you, but you will make it. ETA: I guess there is 4 of them. I did not know that.
  17. I would package them and hand them out the window. This is what I do. I never think twice about doing it with my kids, usually they are so grateful that all you get is thank you over and over again. Nothing that makes me feel uncomfortable.
  18. My son loved it. So, I opted for the $1 month trial they offered at the end. We should know more in a month if we really like it or not for sure. I do like it has it all lined up to R.E.A.L. science odyssey to make it easier for us.
  19. I also agree with Nora Gaydos' books. Now if you can find them cheap, which I did I found the whole set of Hooked on Phonics (older one with cassettes, but I did not want the workbooks, or the cards) for the readers. My son loves these readers. They progress the kids at a nice pace. Now since we do have the workbooks I do have him read the stories in them sometimes too, but the readers for HOP are awesome.
  20. I have two kids in ps still. They are older now, but still ps takes some times too. In between remembering to make sure they have lunch money, teachers calling for meetings, school activities, sports related to school. Making sure they have all the supplies they need, because the list at the beginning of the year is never all they need. Oh and going by the schools schedule. Yeah doesn't sound so bad, but it is annoying sometimes. Mainly since I have one still at home so our schedule goes with theirs. It is not fair to have 2 off for a break and have one still working. Those are my main hardest parts sometimes, because sometimes with our hsling juggling in a meeting with a teacher or a school activity really throws us off. It was worse when they were in elementary for the school activities, but meetings are worse in middle and highschool. It seems they always want to talk about something. Also the fact you darn not go to far from where the school is cause if they get in trouble or get sick you need to go get them asap. They are noisy! Honestly I cannot figure out why they need to know so much, but they feel they do. Somethings I am not comfortable sharing and I tell them. Now the plus side. I have well really I don't have too much right now. I mean I have the less stress with school only doing one, but I do not have any free time. Years ago when I just had my two older ones, when school was in I had free time. I never went to the store with kids, always had time to get Christmas shopping done and no one ever knew, my house was clean most of the day, I read books for me without pictures, but it was too quiet. It did get lonely being home alone all the time. Now I miss it sometimes still, but I would not trade having at least one home all the time. Now a day off would be nice, but I will get that when they grow up.
  21. Thanks for the link to the task cards, I will look into those some more. Now I have looked and and bought the guides if you call them that for Noeo and I was very disappointed with them. It was just not what I was looking for and for the money I could not justify it. I want and need something with a bit more that is why I went with RSO, but I will figure out how to get it to work.
  22. That is what I was trying to do, but we are so limited here, but I will look harder this time. Maybe I missed something. Do you really think the key books are enough? I worried about that, but it does make sense if they are.
