  1. I was just searching through threads and lots of people mentioned they make homemade breads often. So, now can all of you share those wonderful tried and true recipes? It doesn't matter if it is white or wheat as long as it is good. I have tried to make whole wheat bread so many times in the last month that I have went through a full jar of yeast and tons and tons of flour to just end up throwing it out. The bread turns out hard or too dense or just plain gross.
  2. I got my bamboo cutting boards from Amazon they were fairly inexpensive. I also use stainless pots and pans, with a mix of cast iron (I love my cast iron pans). For bakeware I have glass, stainless and cast iron. Just ordered a cast iron loaf pan it will be here today I am so exited to try it out the reviews were awesome on how the bread turned out after using it.
  3. I was asking if TT was behind or am a I seeing things. That is it. Not why people use it, not if they feel as if they are harming their children for using it. None of that. It is simple yes it is or no it is not. That is it. Seriously yes I am for real, people on here feel so many curriculum programs are the so perfect that they have to express opinions so strongly that they get away from the actual questions asked on these boards. A simple no I do not believe it is behind, my children love it and works prefect for us. But is seems too many get defensive if something they use is not getting prefect reviews.
  4. I was just curious if it was just me compared to other programs. I was not slamming the program, but if it is a year behind from what most say then the Algebra would be prealgebra then ? Just trying to line this all up in my head. I understand every ones need to stand up for it, but really if fell short of what I was asking in order to get 'our' opinion across, which happens on this board way too often. IMO. Anyways thank you all that did answer what I was asking. ((( note to self never ask about TT again)))
  5. http://www.abc.net.au/arts/wingedsandals/default_lowband.htm Stories, activities, history, etc. All kinds of great things.
  6. My son is finishing up McRuffy grade 1 (just a few lessons left) then we start grade 2 of it. I just had him do the TT level 3 placement test and he passed it all but the multiplication. To me that seems like TT is way behind level of the rest of the programs out there.:001_huh: I am wrong?
  7. How about a subscription to Discovery Streaming or Super Charged Science. Or Magic School Bus science kits, I do second art supplies. Do you have all your readers and read a loud books for the year?
  8. See this surprises me, my boys who are really hard on clothes have yet to wear them out.
  9. I have bought all kinds and brands and prices from super cheap to really expensive. I have found 2 brands that seem to outlast the rest and the prices are wonderful. I get Arizonas from JcPennys, they run me depending on the sale $11.99-$20. The other is Wrangler Cargo jeans from Walmart, they run about $12-15.
  10. I was asking because someone compared this GP paper to office Depot brand. Amazon has it for $37 for a 10 ream case or $17 for 5 reams. Since it is a good deal I will go with it for now. I prefer 99 bright and 24lb+, but I am broke right now and have to put my paper snob part of me to the side.
  11. GP or Office Depot brand? I need paper asap, but funds are low. Now my problem is I HATE paper that is super thin, jams up and well when you write in ink or print on it, it basically looks as if it is on both sides. Are these two brands like that? I just keep thinking the price is just too good to be true kind of thing and would hate to buy this paper at a good price and waste most of it because of quality issues. Thanks for the help.
  12. My boys are the same way! Non stop I have to play ref and get between them to stop the fighting. Mine cannot even sit down and do anything together. Sorry no advice just wanted to let you know you are not alone. I dream of a nice day that they can sit down and enjoy each other, but I am not seeing it happening anytime soon.
  13. Wyoming is trying to get a new law passed like this. I think it is wonderful. Here they are wanting to discourage dropouts by raising the age to 18 and making it where if you drop out before 18 you cannot hold a Wyoming drivers license until you are 18. But if you are in school you can have a drivers license. Now the law they want to pass will exclude homeschoolers (yeah ). I think raising the age is a wonderful idea. Way too many children are dropping out at too young of an age then realizing way too late that they should not have.
  14. I am using the Intellego studies for this. So far so good, he loves it.
  15. I tried that with him, but he is one who says but why over and over again. Is there not a rule at all for this one?
  16. Do I teach this as a site word? Or is there some lesson I am not seeing that explains this to them. My little guy keeps asking me why does the o sound like a w? I am at a lose. I know it is something simple, but I am not finding it. Thank you for helping with this little problem.
  17. I find myself always trying to make this more fun or this more hands on and so on. While making myself exhausted trying to make it all fun and enjoyable then after some of this 'fun' stuff it really was not worth it in the end. So, do any of you not do this? If so how do your children like your days? Do they get the enjoyment out of learning without all the frills and such? Don't get me wrong I will keep some fun stuff in our days, but trying to make it all fun and attention getting is wearing me down. Also I fear it makes it hard for him to actually just sit down and enjoy a simple book or such without all the sparkle I add to it. Am I making any sense? I fear my goal of him enjoying learning and gaining knowledge is being hidden by all the frills and sparkle, making it hard to enjoy simple things as much as both of us should.
  18. Any clarifying shampoo you can find. Also don't conditioner as much use only a small amount on the longer parts of your hair. The hard water already builds up on your hair and scalp so adding more conditioner to your scalp will just make it worse. I have been learning this the hard way.
  19. Thank you for the suggestions Dani, I think I will do that. Ellie, that is true. I will just continue what we are doing and report as I need to.
  20. Thank you Ellie. I will do that.
  21. I know most homeschoolers don't go by grades, but it makes it easier for me and my reporting to the district every year. Here is what we are running into. We are doing second grade this year, but there really has not been enough progress in our year to make me confident to go to the third grade next year. I have been looking at third grade material and it expects a higher reading level than what he is at. I know we still have a lot of time till next year. But I am already worrying. So my question is do I report him as second again next year or should I report as third for the chance he does catch up (which could really happen) so we don't have a problem with them wondering why we skipped a grade somewhere? Or should I slow down and just redo this year next year if needed, but still what do I report. I am so lost this morning on what to do.
  22. I have worked as a server for years always have. Never made a great living and worked my butt off to make what I did. Now the jobs are advertised as minimum wage plus tips, that means they pay you so much and your tips bring you up to minimum wage. I have yet to find a place that actually paid me minimum wage in a check usually they pay half of minimum wage or even less and count your tips as the rest. As for making $20-30 and hour, yes it is possible. BUT you work for maybe 2-3 hours at this and the rest of the day is maybe $5 and hour. Or you might be lucky and have a full day that you make $20 an hour awesome the for you since maybe your phone bill will get paid that week. Then hopefully the next day you will make enough to pay another bill or buy groceries. Not everyone tips the 18% or more. Most think $4 for a family of 8 is enough after you juggled the 4 kids who cannot have this on their plate make a huge mess, needs a refill every 3 minutes, and a mom who says this is not right, and a dad who complains about this and that and a baby screaming, non stop needing something. While you still have 6-10 other tables waiting on you to help them. But since the one table you have here is being such a mess making it hard for you to get to the rest of your tables and make their meal worth being there. Well guess what the table of 8 who you made the $4 off of made it where the rest of the tables felt left out and guess what the waitress got stiffed on some of them and just as little on others. So, for me to hear someone complain because of a tip is very very upsetting. These men and women work their butts and everything else off with a small hope that you will hit each customer just right to get a few more dollars that day. Also if it was not for these under educated people or even over educated people serving you, you would not have that option to go to eat now would you.
  23. No lease, no deposits nothing. Just a nice man who rented us a house.
