  1. Thank you so much for the ideas. More than about three colors (i.e. black, white and one other) is too much for him. I will look into some of these and get his input.
  2. yea we have and he gets it but would benefit from more involvement from me and I just have not figured out how to do that with MM
  3. I should be in bed since I must be ready to leave the house in under 4.5 hours but here goes. Cub Scout Day Camp for me and all the kiddos Once home- Diaper laundry a load of towels clean my kitchen DS - handwriting worksheet DD - counting practice and then get ready for another day of day camp
  4. DS8 really enjoys math. We took nearly a year off book work and are getting ready to go back. He has asked for math that is not colorful or distracting (ADHD child). He tested into 3rd for Saxon (but we are looking at Intermediate 3 instead of the regular 3), Horizon 3, and TT4. I know he is missing testing higher due to lack of work with decimals. He has almost finished MM 3. Any suggestions for him? BTW Singapore was a bust long ago and regular Saxon 1 was completed in 6 weeks when he was 6.
  5. I just reread the lease clause.....they want proof of 90% attendance
  6. I live in Texas and in public housing (although we pay market rent). The lease says we have to provide a copy of our children's report cards yearly. If it were you what would you do?
  7. Also gift cards that are already entered into the Amazon website are as good as spent....you can't get your money back and they can't be given to anyone else so that may be an option.
  8. We currently live with the inlaws. Nine people in a 5/2 and I am cramped beyond belief. The thing is my family of five is fine in 2 bedrooms but all the extra people even in their own rooms makes it very uncomfortable.
  9. I am thinking of ordering the core B+C with the 4-5 readers for my older and the 1st grade readers for the younger since Sonlight told me that would probably be the better fit for her. If we focus on reading, math and handwriting with the younger we will be good since she will only be 5 in the fall and she can still listen in on the readings and color and what not while her brother is working.
  10. That was very helpful. I am considering B+C for next year and I was looking at the read-alouds and I am thinking my dd will really enjoy them even if some are over her head
  11. Let me reword that lol.....I don't want them doing the same language arts I just want it already scheduled. There is no way I would ever try to put them on the same skills level. That would so totally fail one or both of them.
  12. My rising third grader reads on a 5th-6th grade level. My rising Ker is just learning to blend
  13. So does this curriculum exist and if so what is it... Has history, LA, reading, geography all scheduled Can be used with both my olders (3rd and K) Requires NO printing on my part Allows me to purchase all read-alouds and readers at the same time LA is easily adjusted up and down depending on the student's needs I already have science and math figured out for next year but everything else is up in the air. I don't want to do a ton of scheduling myself because it always takes so much time that I just don't have. I would like the schedule to have room for me to write in the other subjects that I want done versus needing to rewrite the entire thing myself. I would like something on the 4 year cycle. Sooooo what do I want?
  14. Oh I meant at the same time with what will be a third grader and kinder next year
  15. Can one sonlight core be used with multiple kids? I need to plan next years curricula so we can purchase it with income tax and having all the books included from the beginning would be very helpful.
  16. I placed an order with them this weekend so it didn't get into their system until yesterday and when I just called they said it is going out today. I would likely pay to expedite the order to be sure if you want to go through RR.
  17. Had an appt this morning and I am down another 2.5 pounds in the past five days!
  18. He and I talked about him earning video game time for working hard. I am going to set time limits for the subjects he dawdles in and see how that goes along with more breaks and some outside activity
  19. ok that is my child...the yes maam but child. I will try the calmly providing the correct response until I get it
  20. Why does DS7 insist he must have the last word. You would think when I say don't even say anything or I don't want to hear it that would be a clue to close his mouth and just do whatever it was I said to do. Nope not this child. He will literally cry if he doesn't get the last word. I am pulling my hair out because at this point he is nearly 8 and knows it is rude to talk back to me or his father when we tell him to do/don't do something. I just don't know what to do with him. We have very few rules and I don't think I am asking too much for him to obey them. Our rules are simply don't talk back, do as your told the first time, keep your hands and feet to yourself and always tell the truth. FOUR rules and he can't seem to handle 3/4 of them! Please give me some ideas here. I feel like I have tried everything but I know I haven't I am just out of ideas.
  21. I am wondering if it just bores him but if so what do I do from here. He tends to dawdle on math and language arts
  22. See the lapbook was something he chose and he only does BA on Fridays and I don't assign the color pages I just print out two and he colors one sometime during the week. His sister colors the other. I have no control over the tv so documentaries are not an option which is part of why I chose CKE that and the library has nothing but junk. I am not assigning a lot of work each day he just takes forever to do it.
  23. He is so reluctant to get hot. He has only started fighting going out to play since we moved in with the inlaws who think kids should sit in front of a tv all day. I am going to start pushing outdoor time for him right after breakfast and medication time.
  24. So I am trying to get back into some sort of routine now that baby boy is 6 weeks old but I am failing miserably. Part of the issue is DS7 dawdles so I get quickly burnt out redirecting him back to his work. Here is what we are doing right now: MM3 BA 3A Galore Park Junior English 1 WWE 1 (only doing half the assignments for each week) Homemade handwriting to help with memorization of his bible verses for TeamKID at church SOTW 1 with mapwork, notebooking pages and the color sheets {2 times a week} CKE Biology (just starting this) {2 times a week} plus he is working through a study of John 1-10 Reading Little House in the Big Woods and completing a lapbook to go along I know this is a lot of handwriting but the more I assign it seems the better he is getting at writing legibly and he doesn't seem to mind writing. Here is the issue - this can take him 8 hours on any given day because he plays with his pencil, his paper, his fingers..... He is extremely bright and could very well be moved up in math (passed the pretest for TT5) and language arts but I can't afford to go up in language arts curricula and I want him to have the practice of basic skills that MM provides. Please give me some ideas here. I need him on a schedule because his little sister (4) wants me to teach her to read, do math and learn to write her letters and I have been putting this off for months. On top of that DS6weeks is nursing on demand and he demands a lot lol. Our only outside the house commitments are scouts and teamKID on Wednesdays and church on Sunday. We don't have time to go do anything else because DS7 dawdles all day. So tell me do I make curricula changes (with zero money), do SOMETHING to get through to DS7 (and if so please tell me what) or ???????
