  1. I keep MFW around for history, bible and parts of the science. I even added more reading instruction in but I really like how it is laid out especially for the history.
  2. Thank you so much for that info. I will start pawing through it and see what I can find. For DD4 should I just start with orange and work through it? If so would you add SM1 to it?
  3. I picked up Miquon because while DS8 totally understands all the operations he really needs more practice and I would love to give him a hands on approach to that practice before moving him on. We are flying through SM (switched back from MM and stepped back to SM3a but can already tell we will be through with it in a couple weeks). We have the IP and CWP (this he really has to work at because he isn't great with word problems but doing them the Singapore way is making a world of difference). Where should I start him in Miquon? I own all 6 books so wherever is fine I just don't want him to do a bunch of work that is so far below him that he is totally bored. He also played around on HOE's free android app and is begging for more algebra. What would you suggest for him? We are going over negative number calculations and he is understanding completely. I know he still needs fraction, decimal, exponent and order of operation practice which I know he will get in SM so I am not totally worried about it. I am only assigning two or three problems per exercise right now just to make sure he has a solid understanding of each concept and I am just lost lol. We took nearly a year off for him to deal with anxiety issues and now that we are back he is right back to flying through math like no one I know. He is also working through BA3b right now but he doesn't like it as a full curriculum. He prefers to just do it weekly right now so we will continue doing that for him. I also have a year's subscription to quarter mile math that I am considering letting him play with. With dd4 she is on lesson 18 of Singapore Essentials. What next? SM1a or Miquon orange or both?
  4. MM has end of grade tests. I would give her the first grade one and go from there.

  8. Thank you so much....my happy dance is on lol
  9. If I have all the cards for levels 1 and 2 do I need student packets or just the teacher's manuals? If I can get away with only needing the teacher's manuals it would be awesome.
  10. For the methodology I suggest the first edition but for up to date curricula options I suggest the current edition.
  11. Hmmm wish I would have known about the pdf version......my set came in the mail from RR today lol
  12. Ok I have a laminator here at home and have the time to laminate each page so they can be completed with a dry erase marker and then erased and put away. I am planning to eventually use Miquon for all three children. What would you do?
  13. I found this http://www.classichousewife.com/2012/08/09/ultimate-guide-to-texas-history-homeschool-curriculum/
  14. So for a 3rd grader just starting to learn Greek which would you use and why?
  15. Actually at about 20 years you should have seat belts replaced. You should also have any seat belt that was in use during an accident replaced.
  16. It is all about age and height. No matter how mature you think your child is or how much they weight their bones are still only as old as they are and until the seat belt fits correctly (meaning sits over their thighs and not their stomach and goes across the shoulder and not against the neck) it just isn't safe to not be in a booster unless they have reached puberty. Bone ossification at puberty is what makes an ill fitting seat belt not nearly as dangerous as before puberty. DS1 will be nine in Dec but is only 4'5" (can't believe I said only because he stands up to my shoulders lol) so he is in a low back booster and will remain in one for some time. DD is moving into a Britax Frontier that will keep her harnessed until 90 pounds once her current seat expires at the end of the year. She will remain harnessed in it until she outgrows it by height or weight. I would rather embarrass my kids over their seats than risk injury because they aren't in them.
  17. Redshirting is very very uncommon here. The PSK is used as free childcare by the majority BUT that is this community. I have lived in other parts of the state where it was common.
  18. Giving biodad a car seat is a great idea BUT also make sure you teach him how to properly install it. It will do very little good for your dd if it isn't installed correctly.
  19. But he wasn't even given the chance to.....he missed a visitation before the adoption was even finalized. Him failing to appear is what sealed his fate and the SC judge knew he couldn't legally appear that day
  20. And my cousin was 5 months from deployment and was not granted leave to gather with our family for my great grandmothers last Christmas.......Sadly she missed out on a five generation of women picture because the military would not grant her leave. Just saying it is not inconceivable that he would not have been granted time away and without the birth mother informing him that the baby was born how would he have known? Yea he may have had an idea of when she was due but that is it. The woman refused gifts and financial support from both the bio dad and his family. The fact that he had JAG involved the day after he was presented with paperwork says a lot. The adoption was never finalized because he was fighting for his daughter. The state of South Carolina agreed that she should be returned to her father but the Cs fought it all the way to the supreme court who sent it back down and THEN the SC courts overturned their own prior decision and granted an adoption for a child whose residence is in a different state and issued a felony warrant because her father had to report to national guard training and they scheduled a visitation in SC at that time knowing he was not available.
  21. So I went to look at the law in Texas. I can leave my kids for up to 5 minutes and the oldest for however long I want. Except here is the issue. Leaving your kids for the legal 5 minutes is grounds for a neglectful supervision investigation from CPS...............................and people wonder why SKL was upset about having the cops called! CPS should not be investigating people who are not breaking the law but it is clear they are doing it here. https://www.dfps.state.tx.us/Child_Protection/About_Child_Protective_Services/faqchildalone.asp
  22. From what I understand if BOTH parents agree to the adoption then the tribe approves of it but in this case both parents did not agree to the adoption. I am sorry but the bio mom is a piece of work. She didn't even tell him his daughter was born!
  23. We are starting on the 27th (the day after the ps) so we can get our first six weeks in then take our scheduled week off and have it line up with cub scout fall campout lol
  24. Our library has Play a ways and I have the kids each pick out a couple. They are like books on cd only they are kinda mp3 type players. They can listen to that, read, color, play legos or rest but they have to be in there rooms and quiet. Its a nice time to catch a nap with the baby for me too.
  25. The workbook has all the instructions in it along with the pages for the student. You need the workbook in order to use the student pages. I will order the student pages in a few years for use with my second student because I tear out the pages in the workbook for my first and put the instructions into a 3 ring binder.
