  1. For under $10 you could get Lial's Basic College Mathematics used. I have seen it mentioned multiple times as a pre-algebra option.
  2. So DS9 scored really well on the CAT except in language mechanics and language usage and structure. Some intense work is needed in these areas. What would you guys suggest for working with him. He scored in the 2nd and 3rd stanine while he was at 6 and 7s for everything else. I did test him a year ahead but it is still obvious that he needs work.
  3. All that is left to buy is literature for the oldest and readers for the middle!
  4. Has anyone combined these two and are their plans out there for adding it in?
  5. This ain't your momma's cloth........I prefer cloth and will even take it camping and on vacations and have
  6. I live in a town that can't keep safe drinking water running to the residents. I highly doubt the local government could ever make a move to a community where vehicles are not necessary.
  7. I know oldest knows the truth but he allows his younger siblings to continue to enjoy the magic. Santa only brings a couple gifts and fills stockings and we do pictures. We have tracked him on NORAD but yea its not that big a deal.
  8. I am just curious because I see this being devastating where I live
  9. I can't stand when people say they don't believe in something that is obviously a real thing. If you don't agree say so but please quit saying you don't believe. That is like saying you don't believe in the color pink! I think training babies is deplorable. Crying it out is ridiculous. 9 year olds are perfectly capable of listening and saying that they don't because they are just 9 grates my nerves. I expect my child to spend more than 3 hours doing school work each day even though he is still elementary level. Disposable diapers are nasty.
  10. My toddler doesn't eat much and also defaults to nursing. It has not effected his hemoglobin levels at all. In fact his were amazing according to the nurse practitioner we just saw. In fact there are days where its a miracle if I get a single meal of solids into him. He didn't even start showing an interest in solids until nearly 9 months though so it doesn't really surprise me that he is still really much happier nursing.
  11. Yet there are many parents whose children have not........
  12. An idea as to why you should NEVER use an expired seat: Crash test of an expired car seat: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvCRz7BRAM0 Why you shouldn't be checking a car seat on an airplane (buy a seat for your child because they deserve proper safety restraints even though they aren't 2 or older and checking a seat becomes unnecessary) Car seats being thrown by an airline baggage handler: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzmJr1a-BHU Why you shouldn't put an infant carrier on the top of a shopping cart (Empty) Car seat falls from shopping cart: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Wzp-8V-vfNg Car Seat laws by state: http://www.ghsa.org/html/stateinfo/bystate/index.html If you are in a state that requires proper use you are breaking the law by using an expired seat. A great place to learn more: www.csftl.org There is a lot of info out there. While there is still some debate about rear facing beyond 2 (recommended minimum age per AAP) there is no debate about expired seats or the potential damage done by checking a seat. Please either borrow from a trusted friend or buy a new seat. Remember that the seat is meant to save your child's life should something terrible happen. Do you really want to risk it?
  13. The seat you have has a 17 inch highest harness slot. It harness to 80 pounds and 53 inches. I would say you have quite a bit of time before he outgrows it honestly. The seat expires 8 years after manufacture. By the time he outgrows the current seat he will likely be just fine in a high back booster which are fairly inexpensive. Here is the link with this info https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AvfUm4x64h3AdFZ0c0pkbkRlV1hfeklSWmpZY0kweEE&hl=en#gid=0 and it is provided by CPST over at Car Seats for the Littles you can find them on Facebook and they can help reassure you if needed.
  14. But why would a man in OK who has a baby with an ex who also lives in OK think he needs to establish paternity according to SC laws? It almost seems like they served him after four months on purpose.
  15. Children's spines are at a serious disadvantage when forward facing until closer to 4 than 2. That is why the National Highway Safety Admin recommends rear facing for the life of the seat and SafeKids.org who certifies child passenger safety technicians recommends to rf until as close to 4 as possible. We should all remember that laws are a minimum standard and not necessarily what is safest for our children.
  16. This group on facebook has a good collection of links and many CSPT that can help answer your questions https://www.facebook.com/groups/CarSeatsForTheLittles/ FYI My children's wants and what they can see out the window will never have a bearing on their safety. I as a parent decide what is safest for my children. They may want to go play in the street but that isn't going to happen either. Honestly they don't know any better if you haven't turned them forward facing. We rear face to the limits of the seat and buy seats with some of the highest height/weight limits on the market.
  17. I totally understand where the OP is coming from. I have a school age child and have yet to find a community we fit in. Thankfully through scouting he has a friend. Yea you read that right A as in one friend. My five year old has no one other than her brother. Why you ask? Well in my community MOPS and LLL are your only options. LLL meets once a month and consists of about 4 women. One has a child her age and she is in ps. MOPS - because of her birthday she is required to hang out in the nursery and she is the oldest in there by 3 years. You see all the five year olds around here who are not homeschooling with older siblings (which I haven't found within an hour drive of us) have been in school for a couple years now. So you see playgroups and preschool groups aren't as common as many would have you believe. If we could get to a local homeschool group (and by local I mean an hour away) maybe the kids could develop more friendships but as it sits I and my children are lonely most of the week. We so look forward to scout night and to dh getting off work. Please remember my story next time you tell the mom of a four year old she isn't welcome. Sitting at home alone is no fun for mom or the kids. Allowing someone's oldest to play with your youngest won't be the end of the world.
  18. Here they do. Even for football in Texas. There are different levels depending on ability but EVERYONE who wants to can play even if they can't afford cleats. The schools/coaches/staff make sure everyone that wants a chance to play any sport offered is able. Here is why club sports won't work at least in my town: 6th grade club football - $150 registration, $35 jersey, $$$ game cleats/practice cleats/practice clothes, parent based transportation up to 2 hours one way just to play a regular game (we live in the middle of nowhere) plus getting your child to and from practice multiple days a week 7th grade middle school football - Cleats................................. Tell me what someone below the poverty line is more likely to afford?
  19. I didn't say you did. I am genuinely curious. I have never found a piece of children's fiction I have felt necessary to ban versus discuss and it baffles me when others do. By all means they should do what they feel is best I just don't get it is all
  20. Why do Christians pick and choose the Leviticus laws to follow? The same book prohibits wearing clothing of mixed materials and eating certain foods yet I see no one insisting these laws are followed. I am truly asking and not trying to be rude. I am a Christian myself.
  21. Class A for Pack meetings No uniform requirement for den meetings Class A when entering camp/flag ceremonies and evening presentations We will likely have class Bs this year and have the kids wear them to den meetings but that won't be decided on until next month's committee meeting
  22. Guess what day it is.....guess what day it is! Sorry love that commercial On the schedule for today: School 2 quick out of house appointments with the little two while Monster works through some independent work Pick up front of the house Clean out the pack n play Monster wants to go to Wednesday night church BUT dh is working 2-9 so I don't know about that
  23. So far: Hits MFW Exp-1850 history and bible are getting done! SM, CWP, IP all things that have been misses in the past A Reason for Handwriting transition book....who knew that cursive was the answer? Life of Fred - we are quickly going through the elementary series and ds is loving it Misses MFW K - love the layout and the idea but I need to ramp it up because it is just so far behind her
  24. I am still trying to figure this out. My 10 month old isn't walking but he is pulling up everywhere and the floor is all tile so I don't dare put him down alone because he will fall over and hit his head multiple times. He screams in the exercauser, he screams in the high chair, I haven't tried the pack and play lately but last time I did he screamed there also. We cosleep and don't have a crib mattress for the crib.......I nurse ALOT in order to get through school with the older 2. We are skilled in nursing while walking. I sat him on the washing machine and nursed him through a math lesson today! (washer and dryer are in our kitchen which triples as our school room)
  25. I still buy the deluxe package. At least I did this year for K and Exp to 1850
