  1. Thanks so much! They all sound good. The Bible Draw sounds unique and interesting.
  2. My 5th grader needs a Bible curriculum or something that would be motivating, interesting and a little entertaining. Any ideas?
  3. We used Daily Geography Practice Evan-Moor for some elementary grades and Runkle Geography for 8th.
  4. Sorry I posted 2. I tried to find a way to delete this but I could not find anything that allowed me to delete this.
  5. I am looking for a World History curriculum for 10th grade. We've used Bob Jones History in the past and I've heard and read that their World History book is good. I've seen that some like Notgrass World History, but read where it doesn't cover enough. Spielvogel- what is this like? I think it would be nice to add some of the Teaching Company videos but I don't know how we'd find time...the books seem very long. Any other ideas?
  6. It is rigorous! The students learn alot. The work takes quite a bit of time. Their schedule doesn't mesh too well with those of us who live in a part of the country where the school schedules begin in early Aug.
  7. There are several ideas on HSLDA's website for high school transcripts.
  8. We've used the Building Thinking Skills books for several years. Our dd says that they help on standarized tests. One book can be used for several years( example: 4-5-6th) so you can do a portion of the book each year.
  9. We do math drills. I love the math drill booklets called Straight Forward from Garlic Press. They have several books (addition, advanced addtion, subtraction, advanced subtraction...) They go from drill type pages to practice through calculus. You might find them at a local education store.
  10. In one of the schools our dd attended, they learned cursive in 2nd grade and used cursive/priniting in 3rd. In 4th -5th they were only allowed to use cursive. In middle school and highschool, I think the decision is up to the student. Usually that is when students seem to create their own personal handwriting style. We used Zaner-Bloser for handwriting. They have samples on their web site. With computers, I imagine some of the art of cursive has diminished. I only use cursive for a signature.
  11. I think that it would depend on the subject. We used the DVD's with Spanish 1. I could not teach Spanish nearly as well.
  12. We switched from Saxon to TT5, and my daughter absolutely loved it!
  13. We like Sequential Spelling. It is easy, and seems to do the job. I love the way the student books are set up so that the previous day's words are not seen.
  14. I taught both of my daughters with Sing, Spell, Read and Write.
  15. We used Postive Action for Christ.
  16. Our 2nd grade SAT10 test included Reading, Math, Language, Spelling, Environment (history, geography, political science. economics, life, earth physical science, science process skills) ,and Listening
  17. LOVE IT!!! My daughter disliked math! We were using Saxon. One day after beginning TT for Alg. 1, she said that she liked math... I could have fainted:) She finished Alg. II this year and will do Geometry next. PS ... Dad doesn't have to spend time explaining problems to dd now... TT does the job, and if she doesn't get it, the solutions cd explains the problem to her.
  18. We've used BJU history for several years. I've seen on several posts that many of you like Notgrass. Is it a 2-3 hour a day curriculum as the web-site says?
  19. The Potter's School does not offer credits. It is rigorous but good. A full load would make for a very busy schedule.
  20. We are thinking of community college online as an option as we aren't ready to send our dd to the campus quite yet. Any experiences with online community college classes?
  21. I am looking for a Chemistry program which includes teaching from a DVD or CD. Any favorites? I have noticed that BJU has one & Red Wagon Tutorials will have one, but I have no experience with either. Are there any other programs that include teaching on a DVD/CD?
  22. My daughter did Easy Grammar from 5th through 7th grades, which took us through Easy Grammar Plus. I read in Cathy Duffy's 100 Top Picks that EG was good but not as strong a program as some. When we finished EG Plus, I didn't know what grammar program to choose next. Cathy Duffy's Top 100 suggested going to Abeka High School Grammar, so that's what we did. Abeka 9 was far more advanced than EG. We went from Abeka 9 to Potter's School Online English 3, and we are SO GLAD we had completed Abeka 9th, or Potter's School would have been much more difficult! She is doing great because of the year in Abeka 9th. My 4th grader is doing Rod and Staff with Daily Grams (EG Publisher). I wish I'd started my now 9th grader with Rod and Staff Grammar instead of Easy Grammar.
