  1. Thank you all for the replies. I checked in my parent handbook last night, and they gave the point totals awarded for each grade, so I was able to figure out a GPA. It just seems so different than what I was used to when I went to school, (but granted...that was many moons ago.) ;)
  2. We sent our son to school for the first time this year He is a freshman in high school. First semester just ended, and although his grades are posted on the parent portal website, I have been not-so-patiently waiting for a report card, checking the mailbox, etc, and DS said to stop looking because he doesn't get one until the end off the year. I thought he was kidding, (or misinformed,) and so I called the school office today and they said that he is indeed correct. If I want a 'hard copy' I'll have to print out my own from the website. The website tells how many credits he has earned so far, but does not give a GPA, or tell if he made the honor roll, etc. That is also assigned at the end of the year. I was shocked. Is this normal these days?!
  3. I went to school with a (female) Kris Kristopherson, and had a cousin named Debbie Reynolds.
  4. Meh. Not a big deal to me. I have FB and I enjoy it, but the majority of my extended family does not even own a computer, tablet, or smartphone. I have to (gasp!) pick up the phone or write a card/letter if I want to communicate with them.

  7. Yes!!! And whatever horrible font they are using looks like they have an old, broken typewriter. There are literally lines missing on some of the letters - like they are running out of ink.
  8. My best friends DD had severe reflux. She says that this hammock style bed was a lifesaver for them. http://www.babyhammocks.com/index.php?route=common/home
  9. I think it's perfectly fine. My daughter is just Katie. Her grandmother was a Kathleen, and DD was named in honor of her - but we preferred the diminutive.
  10. My kids have fun playing Headbands with the grandparents. It goes quickly and it's not too tedious. (Plus, it makes for some funny photo opportunities - LOL)
  11. And there you have it....no season 2 of GP. No surprise there. :P http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-30501671
  12. I have very picky eaters with a handful of food allergies/intolerances thrown in. We have a lot of plain chicken and rice. They can add dipping sauces as they wish (BBQ, honey, honey mustard, teriyaki, etc) And I try to serve sides of fruits and veggies I know they will eat (carrot sticks, applesauce, melon) The other thing I sometimes do is serve breakfast for dinner. Eggs have protein, and even my pickiest kid loves hash browns. You can also hide a variety of pureed things in pancakes and smoothies.
  13. PLus they pretty much sealed it that there will not be a season 2 of GP. Carver knows. Ellie knows he knows. If she does nothing, that would forever change their relationship. He could no longer trust her.
  14. Whoa! I had posted how disappointed I was that it was the same....i guess i spoke too soon - LOL
  15. My aspie daughter is very similar. She's very bright, but it takes her forever to complete a subject. She is supposed to be a junior this year, but has yet to complete Algebra 1, so it's going to be awhile before she's ready for college entrance exams. She knows she wants to go to college but has no idea what she is interested in studying - and I have no idea how to guide/steer her.
  16. My best friend in high school was SURE that "Karma, Karma, Karma, Karma, Karma Chameleon" was actually "Come-a, Come-a, Come-a, Come-a, Come-a to me, Leone" and that Billy Idol's "Eyes Without a Face" was "How's About a Date?"
  17. Okay - I've been thinking about it...there really can only be 2 suspects (possibly 3) that would have the same 'gut wrenching' effect that the original series offered. (And I mean that really was the whole point of the original...wasn't it? Without that - it would just be an 'okay' plot IMO) And I am super excited because I read that Broadchurch is coming to Netflix!!!
  18. My daughter sounds very similar. But, some other things she has asked for this year are: hair chalk, manicure supplies (especially stickers, gems and nail-polish pens,) Old Navy gift cards, drawing supplies (markers & gel-pens,) and believe it or not...Legos (especially the Hobbit sets,)
  19. Ugh - it must be a 14 yr old boy thing. My son will only wear a hoodie as well, and it has been in the single digits here with the wind chill. My Ds will not even were the sherpa hoodies though. He has a couple of NIke and Adidas ones that are pretty heavy and he likes those best. Once in awhile he will wear a Columbia zip-up fleece jacket (if his hoodies are all in the laundry)
  20. Thank you for your replies. I think she will be disappointed about another year, however in the long run I really think it would serve her better to complete he classes she needs for college admission. Our HS group does not have any graduation requirements either, but I'm not sure how I feel about graduating her if she isn't fully done with the work. I'll have to think on that one. Unfortunately we don't have any CC's around here that offer dual enrollment. I do think that the technical college might be a good place to start for her though, (and I believe our local tech just signed a credit reciprocity agreement with a couple of the state universities!)
  21. I suspect the new essential oil craze. There are many of them that make me have an instant 'fight or flight' response.
  22. My oldest has many challenges (ASD, ADHD, to name a couple) and she has had a rough year. Her schedule has been full of doctor and therapy appointments and we have fallen behind. I have come to the realization that we are at a crossroads. I can either issue a general diploma and graduate her on time -but then she will not have all of the classes she needs to get into a typical state college ( Algebra 2, American Govt, etc) OR....we can take an additional year and try to fit those classes in. But how is that going to work on transcripts? I'm technically not 'holding her back' a year - it just takes her a bit longer because of her learning disabilities. Also, she is nowhere near ready for the ACT yet either. She does want to go to college, so this is weighing heavily on my mind these days. I am worried on how this is all going to look to prospective colleges. :001_unsure:
  23. There are a couple different recipes. The one that is just applesauce and cinnamon tends to crumble and fall apart faster. But there is one that also adds some Elmer's glue. I used that recipe last time, and our ornaments are over 8 years old and holding up great. I do store them in a zip-lock baggie to keep them fresh.
  24. Okay - I have never seen Broadchurch, or anything with Anna Gunn in it, so I have nothing to compare it/them to. (I am however an unabashed David Tennant fan.) That said...I am actually really enjoying Gracepoint. It has drawn me in and I am biting my nails trying to figure out whodunit and what their motivation was. I do think that Tennant has been much better in other roles, but I understand that this is not supposed to be a likable character. I actually really like Ellie, and Beth...oh my heart breaks for her. (Her husband though - I can't STAND him!) I have read spoiler for the British version - hoping this one ends differently because I find that suspect rather likable....but I guess that was the point. I want to guess it's Tom - but I'm thinking that's too obvious. I'll be watching to the end. :)
