  1. I can see Muslims getting into this for halal meat. 😄
  2. Anybody have any experience with this? How were you treated? Did you need surgery? So a few months ago, I had an abnormal EKG. My PCP repeated it, still abnormal, and I as referred to a cardiologist. The way things work...I saw him six weeks later, took another month to get an echocardiogram , etc. Well, the results are back from the echo and they say "rheumatic disorders of both mitral and tricuspid valves." That's a shocker. Yes, I had strep throat a bunch as a kid--but I was always treated. I had an endocrinologist notice a murmur 7-8 years ago--and I was sent for a stress test, which was fine. I'll know more on Friday when I follow-up with the cardiologist. On a weird note, my STBX also had a mitral valve issue over the past year. Now, I'm wondering if they're sure that it's from rheumatic fever or if I (or we) could have passed something on to the kids. That actually is my biggest concern. The rest, I'm sure I can deal with.
  3. Last week, I somehow landed on "An Inspector Calls" on Amazon Prime. It was a BBC (and likely Masterpiece) production a few years back and is based on a famous play. I enjoyed it. I love cooking shows, and the kids and I loved "Britain's Best Home Cook" (Hulu), "The Big Family Cooking Show" (might have the word British in it) on Netflix, and Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat (Netflix). "North and South" is really good. I saw it years ago. Think it's on Netflix now. (If you like BBC period pieces.) If you want to try Turkish shows, my Aunt (non-Muslim, Christian lady in her 70s) loved "Kurt Seyit & Sura"....she watched it obsessively until she finished it. (I think it was a Ramadan serial...so 30 episodes!). "Resurrection Ertugrul" is super popular as well...and there are multiple seasons on Netflix. It's historical fiction in the Middle Ages regarding the father (I think) of the guy who eventually founded the Ottoman Empire.
  4. Title is pretty self-explanatory....but what are your favorite Christmas movies that are currently available on any of the major streaming services. Can be all ages, adults, kids, etc.
  5. Are there any? Nine year old is a typical nine year old. Also have a 12, 14, and 16 year old.
  6. Tuesdays are always taco/Tex-Mex Tuesdays in our house (don't have to think). Burrito bowls are my new favorite I don't want to cook meals. I pre-make and freeze brown or white rice. Of course, if I don't have any I either cook or even buy some of the new nuke it kind at the store. So put in bowls....put shredded chicken (I buy one at Costo) on top, chopped avocado, salsa, shredded cheese, sour cream, etc. Wednesday is pasta. Recently kids have liked just frozen/refrigerated cheese ravioli. I boil, toss with butter, parmesan (optional), and throw in some frozen peas. You can also use cheese ravioli to make an easy sort of lasagna. I'm also a fan of the frozen Stouffer's lasagna and a bagged salad. We also really like this recipe for lo mein. I use the Sam's Club brand egg fettucine as our noodles. https://tasty.co/recipe/chicken-lo-mein We do breakfast for dinner twice/month. Used to be weekly. I love my Instant Pot. It makes good Asian cuisine. Beef and broccoli is yummy. https://www.pressurecookingtoday.com/pressure-cooker-beef-and-broccoli/ Great for butter chicken, too. :)
  7. Only thing I could think of is leaving you $1 in the will...so you come to hear the reading of the will which includes nasty comments.
  8. I had chicken pox as a kid. (Calamine lotion!) I've never had shingles, the vaccine, or been tested...but I'm getting closer to the shingles vax age, so now I need to rethink this. :)
  9. I have a 16 year old. I'd love to send him to board with one of you more experienced Moms if you don't mind. 😄
  10. I think they're called "Roz and Ali" where I live. SO re-branded, but not closed?
  11. There are agents who will do all the legwork for you, if you don't live near an office or can't get an appointment. They charge a few hundred dollars. For us, that was easier than going and doing all the waiting ourselves. They will need proof of travel in the next two weeks, though.
  12. So I found this...and it kind of looks like what she made. I'll just add chicken to it. :) https://www.food.com/recipe/cheddar-rice-souffle-leftover-rice-228691
  13. No, it was souffle and pouffy like. Although...I could do the same and make a quiche. :)
  14. FYI...shredded wheat is kind of like Wheetabix (although Wheetabix taste better IMHO).
  15. My kids could easily go #2 or #3. I would probably have to offer some cash on my own, if I could...so say...."While I can't give you the $100 that you should have won, here's $20 or $25 cash as I know how unfair this all seems."
  16. Oh yeah! Glad the horse is coming home to you. ❤️
  17. In high school, I spent some time living with a French family in the south of France. The Mom was an amazing cook--and had the ability to take leftovers and turn them into a delicious omelette, souffle, etc. One dish I remember her making was made from leftover rice, chicken, and cheese. I want to say she pureed leftover rice, chicken, cheese, eggs...maybe some dijon mustard, salt and pepper...and baked it all and it turned out like a souffle. She served this with a green salad and it was delicious. Does anybody know of a recipe like that? She may have beaten egg whites like with a traditional souffle...I honestly don't remember. It's been 35 or so years.
  18. Oh what a cutie. ❤️ I'm sorry the birth wasn't what you planned, but so happy that you and your little guy are doing well. ❤️
  19. In my experience with p*rn, it was sought out because of curiosity and such. Having to tell kids that "no, this is not the way to learn how to kiss or be a good lover or a good future spouse" was actually eye opening to them. I then provided them with other resources for the topics they wanted to know about.
  20. Right Start is scripted. This is the one that uses an Abacus. If you go for Saxon K-3, you may want to consider jumping to 3 if your son gets things easily. We liked CLE a lot, but spiral worked really well for two of my kids. My other two did great with Math Mammoth. The only thing I would add is to consider skipping every other problem as there can be a lot. It's not as scripted as Saxon, but still I found it easy to teach.
  21. In Florida, I added mine to our insurance, but there was no additional cost.
  22. Do any of you have any experience with teen safe driving apps? My understanding is that with the Ford app, you can set a maximum speed, control radio volume, etc.
  23. Muslim--I would attend in a church, but a lot of Muslims I know would not. The bigger issue for many (especially if from overseas) would be the presence of alcohol I think. For Muslims, who have lived and worked in the West, it probably wouldn't be as much of an issue. ETA: Reading that the artist is Muslim may draw people regardless. Pen mentioned Poly Prep. That's right near Bay Ridge which has a huge Muslim community. 😉
  24. My neighbor and her church are sponsoring a boy and his Mom from Central America to come to the US for possible heart surgery. They are staying at the Ronald McDonald House near the children's hospital. What would help to make their stay more comfortable? Gift cards to restaurants near by? Gift card to Walmart/Target? Arts/crafts/? They will likely be here for quite a few weeks. Any ideas/suggestions welcome.
