  1. This thread is hurting my brain. I keep going from laughing to being queasy.
  2. Parking at Opry Mills is free so if you're not opposed to walking across the parking lot, park there to go to Opryland. We never do much downtown so I couldn't tell you much about that. Nashville is just the closest big city with nice shopping for us so that's what we go for.
  3. I've actually heard the opposite. We used grade 2 last year and this year. I can't imagine doing it with your average 1st grader. A really bright one maybe.
  4. You'll probably fit in just fine with "visitin". If you like to shop the Opry Mills outlet is fun and has a little bit of everything.
  5. I'm obviously not a child but Singulair gives me some wicked and realistic dreams. No problems while I'm awake but those nightmares are crazy to the point of waking up feeling the "remnants" of pain from the dreams. I can imagine what it can do to a child.
  6. Math: Kitchen Table Math, Cuisinaire Rods, Base Ten Set, Pattern Blocks, a good algebra book (we aren't that far so I have no rec.) Science: Handbook of Nature Study, a few field guides, perhaps the RSO series History: SOTW and AG 1-4, Kingfisher or Usborne History Encyclopedia Language Arts: McGuffey Readers, Blue Book of Grammar, dictionary, thesaurus A cheap Kindle loaded with the Yesterday's Classics set and as many free classics as I can find Personal size whiteboard, lined on one size and plenty of dry erase markers.
  7. We just start the next thing whenever we finish what we're currently doing.
  8. My son has this right now. Started about two days ago. No fever, no runny nose, just cough, cough, cough.
  9. Only my iPad. I'm stuck with PC until our desktop bites the dust or becomes completely irrelevant. ETA: Thanks for the suggestions everyone.
  10. I have it on my iPad. I've used it myself and found it to be a great way to remember all those Spanish classes I took in high school and college. I haven't tried it with any of the kiddos yet.
  11. Word is my fallback if I can't find something a little more fun. Thanks. I'll look into Pagemaker.
  12. Does anyone know of a cheap (or better, free) newspaper design program? When I was in college we used Quark but I can't justify $200 for a program that's not a core subject. My daughter is interested in this for the moment and I think it will be fun and educational to tinker with it for a week or so.
  13. Ugh, that sounds aggravating. Sorry you have to deal with that.
  14. We have wood. My children are past the age of chewing on them but they do get thrown around and such. No chips or dents that I've noticed. We have two small group sets. That amount works for us. I wouldn't want less but I don't think more are necessary (though I wouldn't turn them away).
  15. Yea, my husband designed and built ours. It's simple but every bit as functional as those for a fraction of the price.
  16. Great episode. I agree about Morgan snapping Rick out of crazy land a bit. Favorite thing from Talking Dead: #LoneWolf- That awkward moment when Rick is the sanest guy in the room.
  17. Some of us on the right don't consider Carl Rove a valid source.
  18. My most recent painting job was our bedroom and I used Sherwin Williams Superpaint (yay for 40% off sales). Even the salesman told me 2 coats. I've never heard of a single coat done well. If it can be done, I'm in awe of the person and the paint.
  19. I would totally understand the question if my kids were high school age (and would likely share your answer). 8, 5, and 3? Not so much.
  20. I had a lady (a public school teacher) ask me today, "What do you do when you don't understand the curriculum and what you're supposed to be teaching her?" I replied, "My oldest is in third grade. It's not that difficult."
  21. That stinks about the customer service but excited for you and your new "toys".
