  1. I've never used it but the package from MFW looks to be all inclusive. If you're going to use all of the other stuff you mentioned you would probably be duplicating a lot. If the math included is review a separate math program is probably the way to go, but the rest would not be necessary.
  2. Ron Paul's Facebook page is announcing the curriculum so it seems he is affiliated.
  3. I doubt they kill off Rick. The comic is his story. In the beginning Robert Kirkman wrote a letter to readers saying it was a series about Rick surviving and what that world does to him. He is the only character who is safe in the comic and I would imagine on the show as well. Very anxious to see who lives and dies this week. I've heard it will leave jaws on the floor. I'm glad the show is different enough from the comic to keep it interesting.
  4. I'm actually about to order some things for next year and that's one of them. I'll definitely point that out to her. Thank you.
  5. I'm actually curious about this as well. I planned on using the TBs and HIGs with all three kids so I hope there are not a lot of changes.
  6. My oldest is in 3A standards edition. We've started the section on bar models and she hates it. I don't think it's the method itself but the fact that, at this point, she doesn't need them to solve the problems they give her. I understand the need to start with something they understand to teach a new method of problem solving. What I'm wondering is if the bar model becomes a necessary strategy later or is it just a method being introduced as tool to choose from when solving problems.
  7. Oh, and let's not forget the phsycho whistle. Creepy.
  8. I was on the edge of my seat. Andrea may be stupid when it comes to men, but she can outrun a truck. I just hope the brutality doesn't go where it went in the comic. I don't think I can watch that on screen, even if it's only implied.
  9. My mother was just shy of 20. I'm an only child. I was 23 when I had my first, 26 for my second, and just shy of 29 for my third.
  10. Hmm, never said anyone was "terrible". I merely pointed out the connection is there. Perhaps easing up on the condescension would lead to a more productive discussion. My understanding is that the people involved with helping design the CCS were also involved in designing and implementing the means of measuring its' success (i.e. the SLDS, or data collection) That is the connection I see. So no, the data collection is not "in" the standards because the standards are the goals. The data collection is a way of measuring the success or failure in meeting those goals.
  11. http://www.corestandards.org/assets/CoreFAQ.pdf Page 5 talks about those who were involved in creation of CCS. Achieve Inc. is probably one of the more interesting. http://www.achieve.org/achieving-common-core http://www.achieve.org/P-20-data-systems
  12. http://www.bloomu.edu/registrar/FERPA Federal and State Data Collection and Use. As of January 3, 2012, the U.S. Department of Education’s FERPA regulations expand the circumstances under which your education records and personally identifiable information (PII) contained in such records—including your Social Security Number, grades, or other private information — may be accessed without your consent. First, the U.S. Comptroller General, the U.S. Attorney General, the U.S. Secretary of Education, or state and local education authorities (“Federal and State Authoritiesâ€) may allow access to your records and PII without your consent to any third party designated by a Federal or State Authority to evaluate a federal- or state-supported education program. The evaluation may relate to any program that is “principally engaged in the provision of education,†such as early childhood education and job training, as well as any program that is administered by an education agency or institution. Second, Federal and State Authorities may allow access to your education records and PII without your consent to researchers performing certain types of studies, in certain cases even when we object to or do not request such research. Federal and State Authorities must obtain certain use-restriction and data security promises from the entities that they authorize to receive your PII, but the Authorities need not maintain direct control over such entities. In addition, in connection with Statewide Longitudinal Data Systems, State Authorities may collect, compile, permanently retain, and share without your consent PII from your education records, and they may track your participation in education and other programs by linking such PII to other personal information about you that they obtain from other Federal or State data sources, including workforce development, unemployment insurance, child welfare, juvenile justice, military service, and migrant student records systems.
  13. And this gets fun around page 50: http://www.ed.gov/edblogs/technology/files/2013/02/OET-Draft-Grit-Report-2-17-13.pdf ETA: Page 62 is interesting as well.

  15. We're in 3A standards edition and it hits on it again.
  16. Yup, I love my Dyson. The first time I used it there was so much dirt I couldn't believe it. It looked clean, but according to my Dyson it wasn't.
  17. Two was too much for me, but I imagine it depends on the person.
  18. I have no problem with it. If someone was using it a derogatory manner I'd be upset with them, but the word itself is just a word.
