  8. I also reread a number of contemporary romance works by Sarina Bowen. The Year We Fell Down (this is one of my favorite new adult romances), The Year We Hid Away, Blonde Date (a favorite novella), and The Lucky One (a story). Here's the blurb for the first book: "My whole life changed in the blink of an eye. I was supposed to start college on the Harkness Women’s hockey team. Now I’m showing up in a wheelchair instead. There’s only one person who understands. Across the hall, in the other handicapped-accessible dorm room, lives the too-delicious-to-be real Adam Hartley. He’s a hockey player too, but his leg is broken in two places. We bond over broken elevators and video games. We’re just friends, of course, until one night when things fall apart. Or fall together. All I know is that I’m falling. Hard. But can Hartley love someone as broken as me? His deep brown eyes hold their own demons. While my troubles are visible for everyone to see, his are hidden deep inside…" /// Regards, Kareni
  9. This has been a romance reading week. I quite enjoyed Kiwi Rules and Stone Cold Kiwi by author Rosalind James. These are both contemporary romances set in New Zealand. Much of the second book was set in Dunedin where my husband and I visited our daughter who did her study abroad there. I could see rereading these books and would happily read more by the author. (It was also rather nice to read a book with a character named Karen where the name/person was not treated with disdain.) Here's the blurb for the first book. "I may have lost my leg. I may have lost my job. I didn't have to lose my courage. You don’t find many too-pretty rich boys in the New Zealand Defence Force. Turns out there’s a reason for that. Fortunately, you can find your true self in the oddest places. Of course, you can lose yourself in those places, too—at least some pieces of you. Since I was back home with a new leg, some facial alterations, and time on my hands, I might as well help out my sister. Showing a potential buyer around some of New Zealand’s quirkier ecotourism sites, having a few adrenaline-fueled adventures? Fine. It wasn’t like I’d never been camping, unlike the walking tornado that was Miss Karen Sinclair. Unfortunately, Karen had never heard of the phrase, “Let me get that,” let alone, “We don’t have time.” She’d definitely never heard, “There’s no more room in the car.” And then there was the sexual frustration."
