  1. I loved incorporating Oak Meadow's Health for grades K-3.... one book, used each year from grades K through third. K-3 Health sample Oak Meadow Link
  2. I agree with Mr. D Math! We are using, and it has started already, the 11 week Pre-Alg (a full year in 11weeks) OR there is his Math Readiness classes that take 6 weeks that start towards the end of June. They are LIVE classes.
  3. We were able to go through the sample lessons without signing up for Canvas. Overall, I think it will work for dd.... even with the complaint that the teacher talks a little slow....but that may be a good thing when concepts get confusing, right?! I do like how she incorporates note-taking.... print notes and take more notes with it during lecture, more of a classroom feel, but a valuable skill. I ordered the CK01B standard chemistry kit and will print out the lab pdf booklet to use with the online class instead of the lab kits they suggest. I already have a ton of lab supplies to add to that kit....so we should be all set. We also just purchased the Great Course Plus membership....we may add in the Chemistry lectures for more.
  4. I purchased the coursebook only for World History. I should be getting it in the mail today or tomorrow. Elladarcy posted the link. I am hoping to pair it with Our Human Story, videos (like Crash Course &/or Great Courses Plus), some literature, DK Encyclopedia, Map Trek, timeline, note-taking, documentaries. OM's Coursebook is designed to give the student historical topics/themes and it is up to them to read and research more about that time in history. I am confident that my 11th grader is able to do this on her own, but my 9th grader will need more guidance. Dd 11th grader would like some sort of schedule of materials, though. So I'll be busy putting this together...... if anyone has suggestions, please send them my way! Thank you!
  5. Thank you for commenting! My one worry was the labs, which she uses the Chem1000 and Chem2000 kits. They are scheduled per lesson. Those kits to me seem more like upper elementary/middle school kits. If we go with this program, we will add the MicroChem Labs or CK01B Chemistry Labs.
  6. I actually ordered the World syllabus before the sale ended..... just in case. When I get it in, I'll be working on a syllabus type schedule.
  7. I taught Elements and Carbon Chemistry this past year with 5-8th graders. We had a blast! Here is a link to some resources we used first semester....... https://docs.google.com/document/d/1e0RpKedZSyU5GkYocNTVDrUfFrQteg2y88rSUqKgqYs We stretched Elements out to 14 weeks adding more Chemistry concepts, videos, activities, and an "Element Fair" the last day of 1st semester. We spent the same amount of time on Carbon Chemistry adding in a Scientist Study/Presentation and the last day I found a ton of activities for our Polymer Party!
  8. Just bumping..... I know most of you have never used this but if you by any chance took a peek at the website, please share your thoughts. Thank you
  9. I would stick with Alg. II as well....... check out Mr. D Math's Summer courses. He has Readiness classes and 11 week full math courses. Would taking an 11 week Geometry course over the summer be feasible? https://mrdmath.com/summer-programs/
  10. Has anyone ever used this Chemistry or has heard of it? We met the Chem teacher who created and teaches it at our homeschool conference last week in NC. My daughter seemed to like it but I'm still a little curious about it. https://www.learnchemistrybetter.com
  11. My 9th grade dd signed up yesterday for Biology 1..... She's happy to have finally made a decision, as am I!!
  12. My 9th grader is enrolled in Fundafunda Academy's Biology 1. It is not a live class.
  13. We think this is the text we will be using for World History..... Our Human Story Wondering if anyone here has planned a schedule/pacing guide with extra books, primary sources, and videos before I tackle that? I really want something I can hand to my girls so they know what's expected each week, like a syllabus, otherwise I foresee our history studies falling behind. Still deciding if we will use the book for one or two years.
  14. Thank you all so much! I'm on a much needed short getaway and will think more on Chemistry when we get back! Appreciate the suggestions and reviews!
  15. My brain has been mulling over science for my 11th and 9th grader too much that I'm quite clogged with information. Please, can someone help me see clearly and throw some logical advice my way..... Background and upcoming FYI: 11th grader is starting dual enrollment at CC in the fall.... she does not want to take Chemistry there yet (possibly waiting for first year of college or 12th grade; wants to get her feet wet first)....she is wanting to enter the dental hygiene program after first year of college. She will need high school Chemistry for fall 2017/spring 2018.... She had Environmental in 9th & Biology in 10th. Thinking ahead to A&P for 12th or CC Biology and/or Chemistry. 9th grader has taken my Ellen McHenry Elements & Carbon Chem for 8th grade this year.... she wants to go with Biology next but if dd11th takes Chemistry at home, I'd like to keep them together, study buddy or just to keep my sanity. I'm wondering if Chemistry for 9th would be okay since she isn't quite ready for difficult math....she will be taking Algebra I. We may just try an online science class for each of them..... or DIVE Chemistry for 11th grader to prep for CC Chem and Biology for 9th grader with online or at home. I thought maybe Friendly Chemistry(using with both kids & possibly some friends) but I don't know how well that will prep my 11th grader for CC..... or it could be a great way to get the basics in before CC. Any thoughts? THANKS in advance! Jana
  16. I would talk to the college adviser about dual credit allowances. Our adviser gave us a chart that aligned DE courses with high school credits.
  17. Dereksurfs ~ These links and reviews are tremendous! Thank you for digging around and pulling out these Mr. D experiences! I'll look into Derek Owens again but dd thought it was too dry from what video sample we watched. She doesn't like math, yet, so I really need her to appreciate the resource so she can appreciate the skill (math). Thank you again, Jana
  18. To the OP, Dereksurfs, and other reviewers........ thank you! These reviews are what we needed to help us in the decision making process.
  19. I'm listening in as I'm curious about it too. Though, the novel notebook sample seems a bit like busy work but it may very well help dd take notes while reading. I'm wondering if it teaches annotation.....? I'm also wondering if anyone pairs it with Power in the Hands writing and if doing together is just too much or a smooth fit?
  20. My two high schoolers plan to use OM World next school year but using the K12 World text. Dd 11th grader may use AP text with syllabus.
  21. Oh wow! Thank you! I guess I didn't do a great job looking......
  22. I've been looking at math options for rising 11th (Alg II) and 9th (Alg.I) graders. I am wondering if anyone has used Mr. D Math (https://mrdmath.com) and/or Live Online Math (http://www.liveonlinemath.com/classes/algII.html) and can give me some good/bad experiences. We need a solid Math this year, especially for my 9th grader! Thank you!
