  1. Yep, keep the caregivers.  Sometimes others in the family fail to recognize the needs of the person in need.  The caregivers have experience, know what is needed in your mom's case.  We sometimes have blinders on, can't see things for what they actually are.  I am so sorry for this experience...cancer has no rhyme or reason for the way it destroys us.

  2. I don't know how to describe this!  My mom is doing 100%  better than they projected.  We were told if we hadn't brought her in when we did, she would not have made it.  When I got there today, she was in the highest level of care, three nurses on call for care.  Not only has she done a remarkable turnaround, they may cancel surgery until a later date, giving her time to recover and repair.  After yesterday, I don't know how anyone could have survived what she went through.  The lady next to us in the ER had an emotional breakdown, couldn't handle listening to what they were doing to my mom.  She begged to leave...    I am so proud of my mom.  She is a rockstar. Not one negative word out of her mouth the entire time.

Google rectal prolapse...that alone should make you shudder.

Thank you all for the prayers and good thoughts.  It is so appreciated.

  3. Good morning, all!  Prayers appreciated for my mom today.  We spent all of yesterday in ER, has been moved to ICU.

    To do:

    • Drive to hospital, 1 1/2 hours each way and we have a huge storm coming in the next 2 days.
    • wait for surgical team consult
    • visit with my mom
    • figure out my final exams because my sub has generously offered to take the entire week for me.  I just need a plan...much different when I'm not there.  We were doing a Socratic seminar...not sure what to do.
    • pick up a few things at market on way home

Have a great day!  Thinking of all of you recovering from the storm damage, prayers.

  4. So glad everyone is safe...I was able to message my friend in Kentucky.  They are safe, no power...  TravelingChris, praying that pain eases for you.

I went to Saturday school to work with students before finals. 2 kids showed up, not to work on my stuff, but to do make up work for other classes.  I put them with another teacher, came home.  Got a text  1 1/2 hours later, wanting to know if I wanted to come back.  Apparently 50 kids showed up after 9:30 a.m., looking for extra credit from teachers that didn't even sign up to work.  Um, no thank you.  It starts at 8.

    To do:

    • mail Christmas cards
    • banking
    • check on updating phone
    • maybe a quick grocery run
    • work on office/workout room...it has become the official dumping ground for stuff
    • not sure about dinner, maybe bbq something?
    • laundry

    Have a great day!

Any specific info/area? 😞 thoughts with all those affected.

I just texted with my dear friend.  They are okay, no power, still under watch.

  6. Does anyone know, or think it is a possibility that CPS could step in and prevent JB and Michelle from having contact with the children?  They covered up abuse, and definitely showed a pattern of child endangerment by not protecting their own children from Josh.

    • UPS store to mail Christmas cards, a few packages

  8. I would let it go.   This is your son's first and probably only time dealing with this AP.  If this person  is in charge of discipline at the school, they are probably knee deep with behavior problems due to kids adjusting after lockdown from COVID.

In the grand scheme of things, it's a life lesson for your son about consequences, and the fact that some people have no tact when dealing with young people.

  10. Dd was having an amazing experience.   Lots of friends, joined a lot of groups.  Then, they had a week off between classes in October.  A group went out skating to celebrate, and dd fell and hurt her leg.  She was taken to ER, had to return to orthopedist a few days later to be casted for a fracture.  Turns out that her injury was quite severe and required reconstructive surgery.  I spent about 3 weeks in Indiana in a hotel room, caring for her post op until she was cleared for travel home.  As of today, she is still in a wheelchair, no weight bearing.  We get new x-rays at the end of December, hopefully be able to get up on crutches.  Her orthopedist predicts she might be weight bearing with walker/crutches by mid January.  Her goal is to be able to return for second semester if she receives medical clearance.  It's been very difficult for her.  She had a brief glimpse of how awesome college life can be, then poof, gone.  Now she is stuck at home with us.  🙄

  11. Good morning,, all!

It was a tough week. We put our golden down last Monday, was having a very hard time with it.  The vet explained that he was such a people pleaser,  he didn't show how much pain he was in.  I miss him...

This is our last full week of regular classes, so looking forward to next week, finals, upcoming break.

    To do today:

    • college visit today with students
    • lunch out with students
    • back to school before last bell
    • finish sorting Christmas decorations, prepare discards for donation
    • leftovers for dinner or possible pizza, salad
    • work on this week's menu, shopping list
    • prepare for final exams
    • read...relax, watch some football

    Have a great day!

  12. When we moved my mom in with us, siblings were of no help.  One sent a moving van for things he wanted, and we decided to put everything else in storage units so we couldn't be blamed for missing items later. My mom pays for the units, and we will keep them until that day comes.  We hired a consultant who came out to our house, helped go through what would work from her current belongings, what had to go based upon the size of her room.  It was easier hearing it from someone else who had the experience of moving, the elderly, downsizing.

Keep in mind, my mom is a treasure, has a heart of gold.  Not anything what some of you are going through.  However, we are the only ones who do anything regarding her, her appointments, etc.  Others like to tell us what we should be doing (ha ha) but I've grown a thick skin in recent years.

If moving them in with you is a real possibility I would start with an outside professional organizer to guide the process.  For what it's worth, my mom has never once asked for anything out of storage, ever.  She has also decided to get rid of some things she brought with her due to space.

Praying for you, Quill...   These times of life are very difficult.
