  1. I spend just a bit of time combining the two. Latin roots with derivative cards for learning the new words. I use Avenues of the Mind cards. Kids love them and they are so easy to use. It takes about five minutes a day but the kids are really learning the vocabulary words. Good luck
  2. I used the Avenues of the Mind cards for my dyslexic daughter and she really had fun with them. Because of the pictures, the words stayed in her brain and she really felt good about learning latin. IEW, Andrew Pudewa, recommends them - he used them with his son. That's why I tried them.
  3. My children have really enjoyed the Avenues of the Mind timelines. They are 10 feet long and fold up into a binder. The best part is the Stickers. They are so funny that the girls actually remember the events and the sequence of the events from using the Timeline. Wishing everyone a great school year!
  4. Avenues of the Mind has a wonderful Philosophy Curriculum! The author is helpful, sincere, knowledgeble and available to answer all questions. The Student Study Guide and the Teacher's Answer Guide are incredible. They make the core curriculum really meanningful. My daughter was challenged to think and process fairly difficult concepts but in a concrete way. The Study Guides opened us up to some very impactful conversations. I enjoyed the course as much as my daughter did!
  5. GO go go!!! We did it and had an absolutely fabulous time. We stayed at the Gaylord which made it even better. They had great kid activities and was so lovely. It was busy but Disney knows how to handle crowds. We all want to do it again..and we had three generations of people with us.
  6. Hello, I looked at Smarr's too but decided to go with The Avenues of the Mind Philosophy curriculum. I did not know anyone using Smarr's so I kept looking for other courses. I loved the idea of the mnemonic graphics and the memorized poem to make the information really stick in the Avenues' program. The kids love it. We are reading Sophie's World and some other philosphy novels as well. The teachers guide with the curriculum is really useful . I really rely on it but we don't do all the writing assignments....we discuss certain questions rather than research and write. Good luck with whatever you choose. Philosophy is so much fun.
  7. Try AvenuesoftheMind.com I got their Latin and Greek vocabulary curriculum at the FPEA convention and the kids love the program. Good luck!
  8. To ABQ and others looking for a great Latin root vocabulary program. Me and mine are loving the Avenues of Mind root and vocabulary program. I just got them and they kids are loving it and learning them so fast. I got them at the FPEA homeschool convention but you can get them at their website as well. Good luck, Solly
  9. Just got back from the homeschool convention and my favorite product was these great Latin root vocabulary flash cards from Avenues of the Mind. My guys are begging me for them and they are memorizing the words and roots so fast. The images are amazing and make it so much fun. I am thinking of ordering their middle school and high philosophy curriculum now. I wish I had bought it at the convention. Has anyone used it yet..I know it is new but was just wondering? Thanks Solly
  10. Hi There, I think a great way to start is with just the roots. It is great for vocabulary as well asbuilding an understanding of how language works... Anyway, we used the flashcards from Avenues of the Mind to just teach the roots. My girls loved them and they really learned alot. Then we moved on to Wheelocks which was a full fledged curriculum. It took a lot of time but I think it was well worth it. I don't think you can start to young! Good Luck. ~Sol
  11. Hi Tara, I am fan of Wheelocks as well, but if you want to jump in slowly you might consider just introducing the roots. I did this with my daughters before starting a full fledged currciulum just to get them excited and interested. I used a great program from AvenuesoftheMind.com. Good luck! Sol~
