  1. When my 15 yr old has friends over, they sit in her room and text each other. They also eat in the bedroom, which they know they are not supposed to do.
  2. I wish I had an answer for you. I have a 15 yr old - she makes family life very unpleasant most days. She constantly threatens to move out - I'm willing to help her pack. I have heard girls start to re-join the human race around age 22-25, some even as young as 20. I'll be watching this post for more opinions!
  3. I think the 3 sessions of 6 weeks has the most appeal. I wouldn't take the 4 week session seriously if I saw an advertisement for it. It's too short to learn anything. The 8 week seems like a longer committment, and offers less flexibility than the 6!
  4. I don't think of age as a determining factor. I do think the mini skirt needs to be longer than it is wide - just my opinion, of course. I think peoples should dress for themselves.
  5. I would do the root canal. I too have huge dental phobia but I would rather keep the tooth than have it pulled. I have had many root canals - one was done 25 years ago. No problems at all. My dentist says a root canalled tooth can last as long as any other.
  6. My 15 yr dd is 1/4" taller than me. I am 5'4" and she is just a smidge taller. She is done growing. My 8 yr old dds will undoubtedly be taller than me. They are predicted to be 5'8" and 5'10". Yikes!
  7. Monday through Thursday I have an english muffin with peanut butter. Friday through Sunday I have a pretzel bagel --- with peanut butter. Once in a while I splurge Sunday on a donut. i am a creature of habit. Oh yes, and coffee. I should admit - I start the day with a can of diet Coke.
  8. We have a playroom upstairs. It has a TV along with the toys. My 8 yr twins and my 15 yr dd all use that room for entertaining their friends. They are also allowed to bring friends into their bedrooms. I do have the 'no closed door' rule in our house. We also have a 'no boys in the house' rule.
  9. I have 3 girls in competitive dance. Yes, it is expensive and the costumes are skimpy. I just accept it for what it is. They love it, have developed some good friendships and are learning some useful life skills (time management, how to handle disappointment, performing for audiences, etc.) I think because your daughter is only mindly interested, I would not encourage dance. It is a slippery slope. If you put in a toe, as we did, you get totally sucked in and then it is hard to get back out. LOL. If your dd's interest continues, can you perhaps allow her to try a recreational class? The rec classes typically have more conservative costumes and the cost is not nearly as high.
  10. I'm run for 30 years, having done a great many marathons and beyond. I agree; running (or the feeling from running) is a high like no other. I think the key is to find an exercise that is enjoyable, build up endurance and strength over time, and keep the effort in moderation. I used to push myself to the max in nearly every run. Now, after reading all the studies on extreme exercise, I am very content to work within my comfort zone. The HIIT movement gives me the willies. Too many not-in-shape folks try to go from 0 to 100 in the course of a couple months using highly-hyped tapes. No wonder they are having bad reactions. Like much of life, there is no quick fix. Taking care of our bodies is a lifelong process.
  11. I hope it's ok to post this. We are considering a relocation from Minneapolis to Naples, Florida for dh's job. I'm wondering about the area - what it's like to live there, the schools (public for teen, private for elementary), neighborhoods, lifestyle, etc. Anything that anyone could share would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  13. I am married to a man who divorced his first wife. She cheated on him, then wanted him to 'wait' for her while she explored her new relationship.LOL. He is not the least bit bitter.
  14. In MN, teens are added to insurance when they get their license. I just asked this question last week as my teen is about to take the classroom training. Do call your agent and ask so you have piece of mind!
  15. I think you should be looking at a whole life policy, not term. That way, at age 20 or whenever, the policy will have some cash value. I know term is cheaper, but if you are healthy and on the young side, the whole life is a better idea. IMHO.
