  1. The signing time and baby signing time videos are great for speech delays. Lots of pictures lots of language, and their fun. I DVRd them from PBS:) Not therapy, but fantastic language enrichment....signs are always paired with speech.
  2. I have been working with DD on reflex integration exercises for the past year. We have decreased her strabismus signficantly now down to 1 degree for distance, 4 degrees for close. I really think VT may be the next step. I talked with the vision therapist today briefly. DD would be the youngest she has ever treated. Would you spend the $ on VT this early? The VT I talked to is the only gig in town, btw. She is connected with an eye dr. with not the best reputation in my mind, and I don't think she is COVD either. VT doesn't take outside referrals:(.
  3. a party supply store or dollar tree would be my guess for cheap costumes. Tractor Supply if you want to spend more $$.
  4. Sounds like a great beginning of a super hero costume to me:) I love the idea of using them to decorate her room....that would be awesome!
  5. We used the mesh bags for a while:) It really helped. Now they are stuffed with all of the strays.
  6. epilepsy is so tough because it has to be controlled, ya know. One of my students had worsening of her epilepsy as a result of an ADHD med that on the package insert says not for children with a history of seizures. She is off of that med, but her seizures are not as well controlled now. Parents are their children's advocate, so carefully read all the info about any new drug before starting it. :grouphug: I'm so sorry you are going through this. I hope you find the help you need.
  7. I had that surgery. Day 2-3 were the hardest, especially the mornings. Keep up the saline. It really helps a lot with pain and swelling. I hope you feel better soon.
  8. if you have an i phone or an i pod, there's an app for that:) I think time timer has a digital version for on the computer, too. I have put tape over the bell on a kitchen timer to make it quieter. I also use the stopwatch/timer on my droid phone. When the phone is on vibrate, it vibrates...way less annoying than ringing for sensitive ears.
  9. too much pressure....put a piece of fun foam under his work (press too hard and it makes holes.) or if the pressure is from death grip on pencil put a little styrofoam ball on the shaft to pinch like a grip ....pinch lightly don't crush.... I like erasable pens from papermate for initial cursive instruction
  10. We're going to try Epi Kardia in the Fall. It covers the history of the world in one year over units that are about 8 weeks long.
  11. thanks for the positive reviews! I think I am going to pick this up for DD and I:)
  12. Buy him a new waterbottle and put a message inside. about how he's a great dad...braving the elements. ....... I bet once he's there, he'll have a great time.
  13. taking school to the library in a study room. brilliant:) We're going to pack up and do school lke that soon. Destination school...love it.
  14. There are two GREAT reasons to change pencil grip ....Pain and/or stress on a joint. (white knukles, complains after writing). If that's the case you can try a finger strengthening program for handwriting. First strokes handwriting has one called pencil gymnasitics. It's fun:) There are other good reasons to try to change pencil grip such as if he can't see the pencil tip when he's writing, or if he is not able to form hoops, loops or other connectors with movement at the fingers in preparation for cursive. Changing letter formation when it's legible in the end is very very difficult almost impossible becuase the motor patterns are established and the reason for change is hard for the kid to understand. Cursive provides the opportunity to start with new motor patterns. Do only supervised practice at first so bad habbits don't form.
  15. bumping this for the evening crowd and to ask another ? Does amazon prime work for the .01 one cent books, or only certain books? Figuring out how to be frugal is not easy:)
  16. That's great to know I was torn between the daily lesson plans and the complete curriculum. I definitly need more structure. DH and I are planning to share the teaching. Thanks! Karen
  17. does amazon prime work for those .01 books? That really would save a lot of money. Karen
  18. Thanks! These are just the kind of links I'm looking for! I knew you smart, experienced moms would have solutions for me:)
  19. I am looking at using the Epi Kardia kindergarten curriculum in the Fall, and I need to buy a bunch of readers. I am looking at buying them on Amazon, but their book shipping seems high. Is there a better way? Epi Kardia doesn't sell a 'complete' package, so I need to buy the books singly. I am thinking of purchasing one unit at a time unless it's cheaper to buy them all at once. I do plan to use my library some, but they have less than 1/2 of the titles recommended. Thanks! Karen
  20. I would download a phonetic spell checker for computer based writing assignments. They really are awesome!
  21. Now I see how it works:) Thanks for asking!
