  1. I think we will do this experiment as we study Fall. Has anyone tried this before? These experiments look great! Does anyone subscribe to their newsletter? Do you like it? http://www.sciencemadesimple.com/leaves.html#autumn_leaves_science_project
  2. I'm sorry. I'm under the weather too today. I hope you feel better soon. I'm just about to pop a dvd in the computer to watch to keep me up til bedtime so I'll sleep tonight.
  3. my roast filled up the crockpot and there are only 3 of us. The best part is DH thinks that I cooked a hot meal every night.
  4. this series looks great! I found the primer free on google books, too. Thanks! Karen
  5. DD has a 'center' for cutting I put in old maps, wrapping paper, coupons I'm not using, foil, straws, cereal boxes, leftover pieces of gift wrap, etc. She also has a single hole punch and a pinch punch stored in there with her scissors. It's actually one of my favorite school activities for her b/c it's independent. I store it all in a small rubbermaid bin with a lid.
  6. We had pot roast last week...all week We had roast with potatos, carrots, and celery (crockpot) Day 2 shredded roast and cheese to make quesadillas with black beans as a side Day 3 shredded roast, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, salsa in taco shells with leftover blackbeans mashed up w/ cheese melted on top Day 4 french onion soup, french dip sandwiches with provalone slices and fresh fruit Day 5 I froze the rest shredded and mixed with homeade barbque sauce to make bbq sandwiches another week. Sometimes I make the leftovers from night one into beef stew and serve it with cornbread
  7. DH wants to teach DD to play. I want him to use a fun but thorough piano/music theory/musical terminology curriculum to teach her. He found some but it's 'silly'...it calls a quarter note something else cutesy, etc. That's not what I want. What do I want? Thank you!
  8. Hand injuries hurt! Ouch! It's easier to type with one thumb than handwrite. I hope she heals quick!
  9. We're doing PR 1 very slowly...about 3 days of material in 5 days of instruction. Last year even slower 2 days of material in 5 days of instruction. We are still heavily reviewing Weeks 3-4 of phonograms daily through practice games. Even though it's very slow, it is so rich! DD has the rule tunes down. She has the phonograms, too, but yes it goes slow very very very slow, and it's OK. Aready in the first month of kindergarten her skills far exceed what is being taught in K and even 1st in public schools. I think the pace outlined in the book would be great for remediation for already reading older kids, though. PR takes about 30-45 minutes/day. I would hold off on the readers until it's time for them b/c then there won't be as many construction codes.
  10. ThinkGeek catalog...I must look that up. We need to purge our toys because they are taking over the house. Toys can inspire learning....We need them and we haul them outside too.
  11. lots of water give fish oil (usually means I forgot her morning dose) epsom salt bath light bright in a dark room, swaddled in a stretchy blanket
  12. I would guess that a small airport would be better than a large airport. I requested a pat down at DFW recently...it was akward, but I was OK with it for me. I wasn't flying with children
  13. Walk at a park Go out for ice cream or dessert only at a restaurant Play a board game or card game. We like 'settlers' and 'split' picnic drive through the countryside lessons-we are going to do square dancing this fall and ball room dancing in the spring DH loves it when I watch him do things he loves...like rock climbing. I don't get it, but I know he likes it.
  14. Gift certificate for a meal for 2 prepared by you on a day of their choice Picnic basket, bottle of wine/sparkling juice, pretty napkins, etc. gift certificate to cater a picnic for them. Wonderful card with true words of wisdom about having a successful marriage. A dear friend made our wedding invitation into a work of art. It hangs in our bedroom. DH hasn't forgotten our anniversary yet:)
  15. I don't think this encounter was by chance. Before I did anything else I'd pray with my DH about it. If we had peace about providing some support or temporary housing we would do so. :grouphug:
  16. Sounds like the second opinion was really a blessing. Good job taking care of your son.
  17. I want to remeber the day and honor those who served and those who we lost. I want to share 9/11 with my family respectfully. I limiting my viewing of media coverage that seems 'sensationalistic' or just too 'graphic' Instead, I am focusing on the service of our military men and women and their daily sacrifices for our freedom. How can we thank them enough?
  18. Praying for wisdom and peace for your family.
