  1. If you have a local shop loose leaf chamomile blends that contain the whole dried flowers would be my choice followed by mint. My favorite bagged tea is Celestial Seasons Candy Cane Lane decaf green tea with peppermint and a hint of vanilla. I would prefer a ceramic mug for the cozy factor. I drink my hot beverages fast enough that cooling down isn’t a factor.
  2. I love board games ❤️❤️ I gave Settlers of Catan to my sister and brother’s families. As a family we received Sushi Go Party edition Kingdomino Azul I chose games that my 7yo could play since we were short on games for the younger crowd. We all enjoy the new games and they are short enough for my 7yo. Now that she’s ready to join the fold we can go back to a regular family game night.
  3. I haven’t posted in a while but I’ve kept up my exercise routine pretty well over the holidays. My yearly goals include running more races and joining a regular group run. To that end I have a 15k next Sunday and a half marathon in March. I’m still debating about adding a trail half marathon in Feb. I’ve been trying out a group run at a running store on Thursday evenings. The group is generally pretty fast. There’s one lady slower than myself other than that everyone is much faster. The group is nice. I may just use that as my speed day. Today I’m checking out another group for a long trail run. We’ll see. Over the holiday season I let my yoga practice slip. I got to class this week and was surprised at how tight I am. I’ve got to be sure to get there twice a week. I’m also working my way through the book Strong. This week I bought new running shoes and a pair of trail running shoes. I’m excited to try the new trail runners today I’ve just been using my regular running shoes on the trails.
  4. I ran my half yesterday 2:30:13. I am super pleased. I pushed myself by running with the 2:30 pacer and cut 7 minutes off my fastest training run on a course that is more difficult than where I train. I am sore today. Hopefully I can get to yoga tomorrow and Wednesday and back to easy running Thursday.
  5. I have my half marathon this Sunday. I feel ready. This is my taper week so it much going on. A few runs earlier this week. Now resting, drinking plenty of water and eating good food. I haven’t figured out my next race goal. My husband mentioned going away and doing a half marathon in March. That would be my first choice but he’d have to commit and right now that’s the hold up. If we did that I may try a trail half in February. The other choice is a local full marathon in March. That would be cool too but there’s a 6 1/2 hour cut off. I’m not confident I can make the cut off but I won’t know until I’m well into training and doing the 20 mile long runs.
  6. I ran my 15k last weekend. It was sooooo hot (90’s) and humid. I averaged a 11:44 pace and ran the whole way so I was pleased (I’m a sloooow runner). I’ve been sticking to my workout schedule. I have my long run today 13-14 miles. The heat has finally broke so I don’t need to be out there by 5:00. This week 5, 3, 7, 3, and 13 miles for runs, 2 sessions of weight training, and probably no yoga. I’m volunteering at my daughter’s school book sale which conflicts with the classes I usually take. I joined a local running club. I’ve just got to get up the courage to post on the Facebook page to see if any other slow runners going to the group runs.
  7. I got in all of my workouts the past 2 weeks 5 runs, strength training and yoga. I’m struggling getting my long run over 13 miles. I want to get to 14 but have had terrible cramping in my legs miles 12-13. The first week I thought I wasn’t hydrated enough. I’d had a busy afternoon the day before so this week I was super conscious of drinking water Friday. No luck there. This week I ‘m going to concentrate on consuming more foods with potassium and magnesium. We’ll see how that goes. This week I want to get in 3 runs 5, 3, and 7, 1 session of strength training, 1 elliptical and yoga. I have a 15k race next Sunday.

  12. I have adult children in their 20’s and younger children still at home. If the older kids want to take a younger sibling on a trip they do. They make all the arrangements. My oldest 2 dd took my youngest dd to Disney this summer. They made all the arrangements. We had nothing to do with the trip at all. I would suggest that you put this behind you. In the future if your son wants to take a trip with some of his siblings let him invite the siblings he wants to come along and make the arrangements on his own. He doesn’t have to take all of his siblings with him if he doesn’t want too. I think that forcing the younger sister to be included on the trip was the first mistake and probably why the trip fell apart.
  13. I agree what’s wrong with doing something nice for your spouse if it’s important to them. I don’t understand the point the spouse is trying to make by not doing something small for the celebrating spouse when they know it’s important to them. In some ways it seems the spouse is going out of their way to be hurtful.
  14. I agree. I’ve had multiple kids run xc. One high school allowed boys and girls to run shirtless if desired. One allowed no one to run shirtless. 1 dd ran with a local home school club in middle school where we got constant emails about the girls not being allowed to wear running tank tops to practice. Boys on the team were allowed to wear tanks or run shirtless 🙄. It’s not protecting girls it’s harassing them. Take away from their achievements and make them responsible for the behavior of others when they are doing nothing wrong.
  15. The clubs here generally only hire post college age people for coaches. I think that helps with coaches not seeing themselves as one of the “kids”. But if this is the case with your club your board needs to a talk to her about the rule violation and see it corrected or b fire her. Your club parents can complain as well and they can take their money and kid different club. (Though having my kids play club sports there are plenty of parent who could care less if she’s getting results. ) A coach is an employee and is different from a team member wearing a team issued suit.
  16. The reason is to shame girls and take away from their accomplishments. Let the girl swim, let the girls participate in sports, let girls go to class and excel without constantly having to harp on what they wear. Honestly as a mother of 5 girls dress code drive me crazy.
  17. In my state for high school athletics all team members have to wear the exact same uniforms so you can’t offer different cuts to choose from.
  18. That brand and style was approved by the state high school athletic association. She swam the race observed by one judge. That judge had to leave she was disqualified the judge who took over after the initial judge left. She and her sister (both swim) have had issues with the same judge at a different swim meet.
  19. I just have a mental schedule Monday run Tuesday run strength train etc. I have to run first thing in the morning because it’s so hot and humid here so that kind of takes care of itself.
  20. A lot depends on the storm what it looks like and how fast it’s moving. Generally our county emergency management sets a shelter in place time when you need to be wherever you are weathering out the storm. This time for us it was 8 pm Wednesday. They were expecting tropical storm force winds wednesday night it to Thursday. We had a spat of tornadoes Thursday morning then not much storm wise until later that afternoon. Generally we get tropical storm winds then a period of hurricane force winds then back to tropical storm winds. Rain depends on the system. This time we had 10 inches last year with Florence we had over 30 inches. For my area this storm was pretty mild stayed off shore and didn’t stall. Florence was a direct hit, a very wet storm and stalled. With Florence we were without power for 5 days and had to have our roof replaced. Our city was completely cut off due to flooding for about a week. Schools were closed for a month. The one advantage with hurricanes is that you know they’re coming so power companies from around the country send line trucks in advance to help with power lines. The power was restored in my neighborhood last year by workers who worked for a power company in Canada.
  21. This week went pretty well. I got in 4 runs 5, 3, 7, and 13 and one strength training session. Given that we were hunkered down for the hurricane Thursday and most of Friday I satisfied. My 13 mile run felt good and I’m much less sore after it than I’ve been in a while. I’m hoping to get to the gym today for 1/2 hour on the elliptical and strength training. This week run 5, 3, 7, 3, 14, strength training 3x and yoga 2x. Clean up my eating. That was rough this week with the hurricane snacks around.
  22. I got in 4 runs this week 5, 7, 3, and 13. I had been able to do an additional 3 mile recovery run after my Saturday long run but the past 2 weeks I’ve been too sore for that. I also did 1 hour on the elliptical, 2 strength training sessions and 2 yoga classes. I’ve felt really sluggish during my runs and my pace has increased. I don’t think I’m eating enough so I’m trying to add more calories. This week’s plan is in flux with the impending hurricane and hurricane prep. I’m hoping for Monday 5 mile run Tuesday 3 miles and strength training, 7 miles Wednesday if the weather holds, and maybe a long run Saturday or Sunday if the storm stays out to sea and there isn’t much damage. I imagine the ymca will probably be closed Wednesday-Friday so no yoga or additional strength training.
  23. I live in NC and some of my kids went to UNC. She should have a flashlight and batteries, some food and drinks on hand (they may close the cafeteria if it’s not safe for workers to get there), and a battery charger for her phone. UNC will update her with any information she needs. The storm won’t be a category 5 when it gets here and Chapel Hill is far from the coast. I live on the coast and if I were to evacuate I’d evacuate to the Chapel Hill/Durham area. It’s far enough inland. Hope that helps.
  24. Spot on. My area was hit hard with Hurricane Florence last year. The number of people out looking for gas water etc shortly after the hurricane passed over was unbelievable and a hazard to first responders. We know for days when a hurricane is coming.
  25. What are the advantages of barefoot running? Would you road run barefoot or trail run? Are you concerned about stepping on glass etc while running? I got out the door by 4:30 this morning and got my 12 miles in. I’m looking forward to a nap this afternoon 😁.
