  1. I am Canadian, and although it's been YEARS since I have spoken french (highschool-I'm now 33), I've still "got it" so to speak. I want to teach my girls the basics, but have NO budget to purchase anything. Where should I start? Are there good websites? Should I just stick with various vocab-animals, colors, numbers, alphabet? thanks :)
  2. Well I took the advice of the wise Hive, and although it did not go "well", IMO I'm fine with it. So fine in fact, that I have written him a little poem to celebrate. It will be sitting on the seat of his car when he leaves for work in the morning. Thanks for your insight and support... :) I can't believe I've been married a decade! A blink of an eye and it'll be 20!
  3. I bought the elemental history download and everything to go with it, then enrolled them in a 1X week school that covers history...I guess I could do both! I love the looks of it, and being Canadian, I need all the help I can get! LOL
  4. They do have limits...they just use their "cash" for what us normal folk would consider "luxuries"! Dh makes a good income, we contribute to various charities, tithe regularily, and live within our means. We have splurged on things like cars (our weakness), but we live in a modest home, and have the minimal on our cell phones-no smart phones here! I coupon like crazy, and have little to no credit card debt. That being said, I find it extremely frustrating to see people that are obviously getting assistance with iPhones, carrying Coach bags, and $150 tennis shoes...I haven't paid more than $40 on a pair of shoes for myself since I had children!
  5. Thanks everyone-I agree, he is a great husband and father...hands down his family comes first. I guess I am having a pity-party-I know he does want to have time with just "us", but it's just not a priority and I guess that's what hurts. Thanks for all your input-as much as I don't want to have to spell it out, I guess that's what I have to do. I knew I could count on the HIVE :)
  6. Sorry this got long.... It's our 10 year wedding anniversary in ten days. We never had a honeymoon because I had Visa issues. We have been busy having kids, and other than a two night away to house hunt in NJ, we have never had time away. We rarely go out as a "couple", which has been a sore spot with me...I feel like I need that, for our marriage AND b/c I'm with the girls ALL the time and I need the break. Romance is NOT his middle name, but he was at least a little romantic when we first met. So dh was laid off back in June...we had some $$ in a nest egg, so financially we have been tight, but have survived just fine without going into debt. He started a job making considerably less, but once things pick up, it'll be more like what we are used to. He is asking me to look online for us to take a beach trip in a couple weeks...WITH THE KIDS. His arguement is that he wants a FAMILY vacation (he's been off 3 months, and we have spent the ENTIRE time at the n'hood pool). Frankly, I'm crushed. I know things are tight, but he's willing to spend $$ to rent a condo on the beach for a week-can he not use that $$ for US? 3-4 days somewhere JUST US?! So I thought I'd be quiet, hoping maybe he would plan something...well today I couldn't help myself and asked if he was planning anything, if we would go out for a night (even just an overnight @ a hotel in the city)-and his response was, "Yeah, I was thinking we could use the giftcards we have and go to Longhorn's....is that ok?" SERIOUSLY? That's the best he's got? Of course I was passive and said sure, but ugh...I'm fighting back the tears. gulp.
  7. I agree-start with FLL 3, even if you breeze through it, it will give you a good foundation. FWIW, our girls LOVE FLL-I hope you'll be as happy with it :)!
  8. Well, shoot I just wrote a short novel on here and accidentally deleted it...here's a short version... 2nd year hsing, I consider last year "successful" being that we're doing it again! No, really, we were able to complete the 3 Rs, science and social studies suffered, but we did pick up SOTW late last year, and they liked that. Most, if not all was open and go, so I really didn't "plan" much last year (and we decided last minute and just went with what their school was going to use)-but I am hoping that this year will be more planned out which would bring about more success when it comes to getting it all done( I think! :001_huh:). I am using a lot of what I consider open and go again, but there are some things that I want to delve a little deeper. I am also going to use a "curriculum" for DD 2 (will be 3 in the fall), probably something from Teach Me Joy, especially since it's on sale this week! :) To all you uber-planners, and veterans I need your guidance!!:bigear::bigear::bigear:
  9. OP-there's still hope...I know I had sold something and sent it media mail to a buyer on here...$68 worth of stuff. She recieved the top of the box...nothing else except a note from the post office stating that they recieved an empty box. The lid was cut with a box cutter. The post office here HELPED me pack it...sent media mail with delivery confirmation-it was confirmed delivered, since they had a top to scan. Needless to say, I sent her back $40-and will be sending an additional book since I had an extra. I love buying and selling on here, (it helps everyone!) but it's a risk. :( Hope you get your stuff.
  10. no, dh printed it at work :001_unsure:, but since he is no longer there-I am left to do the printing...I only have 2B left to print, then plan on starting Singapore. Was thinking about things like a K3 curriculum I was going to buy and was atrying to figure our the best way to print it.
  11. Does anyone use this service or something like it? I am trying to figure out the most cost efficient way to print things off, ie. Math Mammoth, downloadable handbooks, ect. We are not in the market for purchasing a new printer and the one we have isn't cheap. Any input?
  12. this isn't a detox per se, but lots of water, apples, cucumbers, celery-nix the carbs, and lean meat (chicken, fish) for a couple of days-you'll be amazed at how much better you'll feel! hth :)
  13. wow. I agree with the pp poster, you've got to be kidding me...have you seen the King's Speech? Have you read the numerous studies on the detrimental effects on forcing something like that? I hope you allow your child to be whomever God has chosen him/her to be regardless of what is easier in our society. DA Vinci, Michelangelo,Beethoven, Einstein, Isaac Newton and Benjamin Franklin all lefties-I'd be proud to be part of that elite group! sorry if that offends you, but it looks like our third may be a lefty and at first my husband tried to switch her and realized he was making a huge mistake. jmo
  14. I don't necessarily have a problem selling to someone new, just REALLY cautious about sending things USPS now. Recently sent a package worth $68 to someone via media mail with dc and all she recieved was the lid of the box. Yep, the lid was actually cut with a box cutter, and forwarded through witha note stating the box was recieved empty. Sickening. I paid for USPS box and packed it AT the post office with assistance from a postal worker and so I know it was packed correctly. So now, I have to send her back the $$ (we agreed on splitting it) and I am out the books. Not cool at all. It's a risk either way I guess-but I always wait to be paid before I send anything.
  15. Is it the joint or the leg? MY oldest dds both have juvenile arthritis...my middle dd's has had her knee joint affected the most and it presented itself with swelling and heat-like her knee was hot to the touch. My youngest has had the virus op's have talked about, it could just be that...I'd take him in-it's worth the co-pay to put your mind at ease imo. Hope he's ok!
