I'm SO in! I am a third Jennifer, so you may just call me SnowWhite, LOL.
In 2006 I reached my goal weight using WW (mostly the Core program). When the reality of continuing in the same vein for the rest of my life reached me, I reacted badly. I am still/again attending meetings, and this week I'm trying the Points plan to shake things up a bit.
(prepregnancy #1, high weight prior to starting WW the first time) 233/204/170 (doc recommended goal weight, I'm 5'8" and hypothyroid)

We'll be using WinterPromise's World Around Me science.

Hi, everyone!
I am a second generation homeschooler, and spent my twenties teaching school.
I currently teach a first grader and cuddle a 3 yo.
I don't subscribe to any educational philosophy (unless "try to make it fun" counts as a philosophy).
We're presently enjoying WinterPromise Animals and Their Worlds and WP LA1 and will move on to American Story 1 and WP LA2. I'm going to switch to BJU math for grade 2 (one of the lovely ladies here converted me, LOL).
I came to the WTM boards for the Sale/Swap boards and stayed for the sparkling conversation.

There is a One Small Square book about the Night Sky by Donald Silver. WinterPromise includes it in their World Around Me science program (it's a secular book).

I have a strict "no video games before school" rule, but other than that everything's free game.
I think you were quite creative to think of "educational quiet time" activities. If you keep lots of stuff in there (puzzles, coloring books, art supplies) and rotate it out all the time I bet your kiddoes will start to look forward to that period.

Yay for a nice new home at a lower price than you thought you would have to pay for it!!!!

I wonder if you knew... WinterPromise's Quest for the Ancient World includes activities and literature and uses MOH as its spine. (another TOG lite, I guess, LOL)

I am a homeschool graduate. My curriculum (Christian Light Education) was "recognized in the state of Virginia" but not accredited, so my dad asked me to earn a GED as well. The process for me in Ohio consisted of taking a pre-GED test at the local library (which I blew away), then registering for the test and going for two days of testing at the local vocational school. Blew it away again. Fast forward 4 years, and I entered Indiana University Southeast. They had my placement exam results, my GED, and my diploma. Of course as a public university they would have needed to accept me on just the GED, so it would have made no difference whether I had a diploma or not.

We use WinterPromise Language Arts grade one and will start grade two in the fall.

What about an Usborne Books Ten Terrific Weeks unit? The Human Body, Sea Life?

While you're researching, take a look at WinterPromise's Children Around the World. Though it's targeted for grades 1-5 per the publisher, one big criticism has been that it seems to work better for older children.

What if you added in houses with 3/4 acre lot? Seems like you'd increase your pool by a bunch and you might find one that screams home. When we relocated recently, we went with a much tinier lot than we planned (and the internet pics on the interior looked hideous... it's much nicer than it photographed), but it neighbors a school and park with ACRES for the kids to play on. So we didn't need a larger lot, and someone else does the yard work on the ACRES, LOL.

I am a WP user... the consensus among CAtW users on the WP forum and yahoo group is that the program is a better fit for older children. (Haven't used it myself yet. Waiting til my oldest is 9.5).
