  1. Does anyone have any experience with Mr. D Math? Specifically looking at Algebra, but would be interested in hearing any feedback. https://mrdmath.com/ Thanks! ETA: included link
  2. Still mulling it over... I can't even decide what area of history we want to study this year. One option: 1 semester of state history and 1 semester of something else. She has done a lot of geography, including a pretty intensive program this past year. Another option: World History, but not sure what program. I am intrigued by the Big History Project, but not sure if I can pull that off. This child does not really enjoy school, sadly. I go back and forth between something that is JUST GET IT DONE and something that could reach her and make her not hate the subject (this is pretty much my approach to all subjects for her). Math: Algebra I - unsure which program Science: Elemental Science Bio for the Rhetoric Stage plus some add-ins from Guest Hollow's bio program English: co-op class on Movies as Literature and Fix-It Grammar Speech: co-op History: ? Art: outside class Volleyball
  3. I was just wondering about this very topic. Our vo-tech center offers a one year sports medicine program, which is something my daughter is interested in pursing in college. My initial thought was that it would be wonderful for her to be able to participate and find out if indeed this is an area in which she would like to pursue a degree. But, then I wondered what impact it would have on college admissions. Thank you for asking this question!
  4. Also, I was able to find samples in iBooks.
  5. I don't know about sample of the video, but you can get samples of the biology book by clicking on "Additional Resources." From there you can access the TOC and a sample chapter from the book.
  6. I have no idea what we are going to use this year, but I have been doing much research. Here are our top contenders: http://www.hmhco.com/shop/education-curriculum/science/homeschool/biology-homeschool (You can purchase through HSBC for $80-something. https://elementalscience.com/collections/biology-for-the-rhetoric-stage We are also looking at Oak Meadow Environmental Science (not their new one, but previous edition that uses Holt text). Or maybe the Envio science from hmhco above (also for $80-something on HSBC). These aren't tried & true options, but you're not alone in your hunt!
  7. Our local CC requires composite scores of 21 for juniors and 19 for seniors. There is also a local Christian 4 year school that does not require ACT scores for DE.
  8. Algebra II World History Chemistry (DE - fall) Comp I (DE - spring) Literature discussion (not sure on details yet) Elective ideas: Journalism/Photography each 1 semester, Health and Nutrition ACT Prep
  9. If he wants to take a practice test, TCC offers a residual exam. It will not be sent to any universities, but could be used at TCC for concurrent classes. That is what dd did last year. We just wanted a baseline and to help with nerves. If you have any questions about that, feel free to PM me.
  10. The ACT is what is most common in Oklahoma. If he were planning on going to college on the East or West coast, I would probably recommend at least looking in to taking the SAT, but if he plans on staying local, he can take the ACT. The testing is offered at TCC.
  11. IMO, he does not need to take ALL of them. Most schools accept the ACT and/or the SAT. What is more common in the area in which you live? IIRC, you are in my neck of the woods and the ACT is most common here.
  12. Interesting. We're doing the half price option and I only have answers to homework & tests. I've been working out the practice problems. Ha!
  13. I have to agree with all the recommendations for Derek Owens! The online class with flexibility has been perfect for us. www.derekowens.com If you'd prefer live classes, I can also recommend highly Jann in TX. Hers were the first online classes we took. We switched to DO because we needed to not have to be at home at a certain time to attend the classes. http://myhomeschoolmathclass.com/index.html
  14. I've only heard good things about Funda Funda (not specifically about their photography course). http://www.fundafundaacademy.com/product/photography/
  15. Not that I know of, sorry. I don't own Physical Science or else I'd send you a couple of photos.
  16. On Lulu. http://www.lulu.com/shop/derek-owens/physical-science-semester-2-student-workbook/paperback/product-22278997.html
  17. I wish there was a LOVE button. Thank you so much! <3 <3 <3
  18. You have been very busy! I hope you know how appreciated you & your hard work are!
  19. I think we're mostly set in our plans. Good thing since our start date is fast approaching! Math: Derek Owens Prealgebra Science: Elemental Chemistry History: Uncle Sam & You (book 1) first semester and various resources for a second semester study on the Renaissance (Dorothy Mills/KFamily and Homeschool in the Woods Renaissance/Reformation Passport) English: Literature & Composition outside class, Fix-It Geography: co-op class similar to drawing the world with art Art: outside class Volleyball and possibly swimming
  20. I, too, am waiting to check out KFamily's Renaissance guide. :)
  21. Lots of great info here: http://harmonyfinearts.org/2011/03/world-geography-for-high-school-harmony-art-moms-plans-to-download/
  22. Curious what you are planning on using for these. I was also thinking of government for fall and Renaissance for spring.
  23. We used Jann in TX and were very pleased.
  24. I have always experienced frisson, although I had no idea there was a name for it. I mainly experience when listening to music. When I first read the OP, the first song that came to mind was Time to Say Goodbye, or Con te Partido. One of my most favorites. I remember as a young person being so surprised that music could have such an affect on me. I listened to this song over and over. I'd lie on my floor with a speaker on either side of my head and get chills every single time I played it. Of course, it's hard to listen to it and not think of watching a movie. Ha. I also experience the same sensation when I share a personal story that has great meaning, or when hearing something similar from a friend. Has anyone else ever experienced any pain with the frisson? Nothing really painful... it's hard to describe, but it's just like my skin is so sensitive.
  25. I should add - my 9th grader started with level 3 this year. I started my 7th grader in level 1. It was easy and she blew through it. We could have gone through it more quickly, but we did not. Oh well. :) It is a quick few minutes a day program.
