  1. Oh my gosh, that is soo funny. For anyone reading this…. My son made an awesome game in an online class at Youth Digital. They are a little pricey, but worth it (look for sales at HSBCo-op). (I thought I would provide the link for anyone who hadn't heard of them...even though they were mentioned in an earlier post ;)) I do recommend them! ETA- (click at your own risk) LOL
  2. BTW, I don't click on links here anymore due to having contracted one too many viruses! In case you were wondering... And to the other poster that stated she was having trouble installing scratch...that is the hardest part, promise! Enjoy!
  3. Same here!! And add a few more "reallys"! I threaten them with going to school if they don't get their math done. :P Of course, bribing them works even better...
  4. WOW! I just read this...awesome job, both of you! :hurray:
  5. This thread is hillarious!
  6. This is what I see happening in many cases. Even if they say they don’t want to now, at 11 or 14, that really doesn’t mean anything at all. I have one daughter that says she will and one that says she won’t. Who knows?! My oldest son thinks his wife will..hmm..youngest son is too young to say anything about it! If you would have told me that I would eventually have four kids (not to mention homeschooling them!) when I was younger, I would have laughed in your face.
  7. Oh yes, I heard about this through Discovery Education. Great resource! Thanks again for the app idea.
  8. You know, there are so many apps for this! I just got a bunch for my youngest on our iPad. My kids did Alice as well, but they didn’t seem to like it as much as Scratch. Thanks for your informative post and for giving us more ideas to play around with. Excellent!
  9. We have used Youth Digital as well, and plan to use homeschool programming…but I also like the free resources that were listed. :001_smile: Haven’t heard of Hackety Hack…off to check it out…
  10. My older kids started with scratch as well. It is a great place to start. It was amazing to see what they could pick up and the projects they created. Thanks for the info. Good point about starting children at a young age. I will have to get my first grader started soon!
  11. Good to know...my son is looking forward to doing this one soon. We have enjoyed YD so far.
  12. Thanks...and could you also post the actual web address? I can't click!! hahaha :lurk5:
  13. Yes, it's a good idea. But my feeling is that it may be hard to run as a local business. It's always hard to get enough homeschoolers together as it is. Let alone finding enough of them that would be interested in this type of service. I guess it depends on where you live. However, you may have more luck doing something like packaged deals, weekend retreats, or just casting a wider net in general. I am sure you could get creative with this.
  14. Homeschooling (since pre-k) has been a wonderful experience. I do not regret it at all. Sure I have those days where I feel it's all just too much, LOL...but don't we all... The one thing I wish I could change is the socialization issue; and it has been an issue for us. However, my four homeschooled children are also very close to each other. The bonds that we have created as family members do outweigh any issues we have may have faced. I would definitely recommend homeschooling to anyone. And homeschooling highschool (so far-9th grade) has been pretty easy...it's just another year. We love it!
  15. I have the Shark Professional Steam Mop. And yes, it makes life much easier…my kids can even mop the floors now! LOL. I started off with a less expensive one (I can’t remember the name at the moment) and it broke very quickly. I have had the Shark for a couple of years now and it is still going strong.
  16. If you still want a DVD, I know there are some available on Amazon. I am a 'dance mom' as well. Enjoy!
  17. Same here, except that I am not using it with DD 2..lol. But I do plan to use it with my son...who knows, by then I may splurge on the DVDs.... but my oldest DD was fine without them. It is an excellent science course, IMO.
  18. I agree w/ MCT or LLATL..lightly..maybe ETC for spelling..or just wait..when he is ready- MCT and IEW All Things Fun and Fascinating...w/ Megawords. Have fun deciding!
  19. I just peeked at this thread (didn’t have time to finish reading it) and wanted to mention that I agree with everyone that said you have not ruined your 12 yr old. But I can understand you feeling that way! Also, I always try not to pay attention to bad reviews so much when choosing a curriculum. What does not work for one child may work for another, sometimes even within the same family. Take heart- many of us here have been a little more relaxed when it comes to science and it does work out perfectly well from what I have heard…some of my children have had time off from doing any science for periods of time and they seem to be fine (able to start on level) when we do start up again. My eldest dd (now in 8th grade) did explore Ellen McHenry (The Elements) when she was eight, I believe…she did some of it.. but we were also using other curriculum, lightly, and following rabbit trails. She used it entirely when she was in fifth grade because she was so interested in the material. We also have Rainbow Science to compare it and we were underwhelmed with Rainbow. But it still looks like it would be enough for high school prep for your son. I also think that your dd could do either one as well. I wanted my nine year old son to use Ellen McHenry next year but he wants to do science (and everything he possibly can) on the computer. LOL. So he will use Plato. As far as curriculum, we have enjoyed Sonlight, Singapore, Real Science 4 Kids, BJU Life, and this year DIVE is working out great for my oldest. My youngest daughter (who is no longer crazy over science) is enjoying using Adaptive Curriculum and taking it easy with the subject for this year. You have many options, if I were you I would order early and see how it goes..that way if you or your children are unhappy you can always switch to something else(we do a lot of that here…groan  ..but it’s worth the trouble). Good luck! :)

  21. Congrats on your school year and your upcoming graduation…Wordsmith has been a program that ADHD dd (14) has consistently enjoyed. We tried IEW..it was okay, and she liked it at first, then she hated it..that seems to be how things work with her. We did the Wordsmith series and I have used other writing aid books along the way…as well as writing portions of SL, OM, and various programs... Good luck with your search!
  22. I agree but I have also found from personal experience that the Bible is a little different; we read both the whitewashed version and then the whole thing out of the Bible. When my ADHD daughter was very young, the Bible was the only read aloud that would actually catch her attention. I think children can be exposed to it without detriment. Just my opinion...
  23. I read it and thoroughly enjoyed it when I was very young. I assigned to my daughter this year, in eighth grade. She begged me to let her stop due to boredom , but she would like to try again in late high school. I say *must read* and love it...but it depends on the person or child.
